  1. First, stick to what your doctor advises regardless of what anyone else is eating. eggs were a bad idea- stay away from solid foods until you're allowed them.

It sounds like the majority of the foods you're having trouble with are milk based. Could you be lactose intolerant?

Also keep in mind, most doctors would still have you on strictly liquids on day 6 post op. It's possible that your body just needs some extra time to heal. I'd give it a couple more days and if you're still having issues, give your doctor a call.

Oh yeah trust me no more solids for this girl. It just isnt worth it

Before surgery I could handle any dairy just fine.

I thought about the lactose intolerant thing too but after talking to someone at GNC my clear whey isolate drink that have been on is also made from milk and includes lactose. So that threw me for a loop. My body just doesn't seem to be able handle anything with any kind of texture. I thought about buying a skim milk because it is less creamy and more of a Water consistency to see if drinking it gives me any problems...

  2. Hi everyone.

Today is day 8 post op and every time I try to "eat" anything other than Clear liquids my body seems to reject it. I get pain in my stomach and gas.

As of right now my list of things I CAN EAT include: chicken broth, sugar free juices, Isopure (and other clear liquid protein) and Water.

I have tried the following an ran into problems: milk, potato Soup, Tomato Soup, applesauce, pudding, milk based protien shakes.

Did anyone else have this experience or is it just me. I see people who are eating eggs, yogurt, mashed potatoes day 8 and i'm a little concerned. I dared to eat eggs yesterday. HA! pain like you wouldn't believe, wont be doing that again anytime soon!

  3. I think it depends on the bike quality. Some companies test them up to 300 - 350 pounds while other companies do not test at all. If you are concerned about breaking a bike why not try to get an adult tricycle or 3 wheeled cruiser ? The can handle more weight. I prefer them to bikes anyways because they have larger seats for my big ol butt :)

    Happy bike hunting!

  4. I wasnt aggressive but boy did I cry at the drop of a hat Day 1 - 5 post op. Its harder on some people than it was on others. I felt like I was depressed because I saw so many posts like "Day 4 and im feeling great" and I was like.... reallyy why do I feel like im in hell and no one else is??? I think there will be lots of emotional phases and this is just one you are going through right now. Try your best not to kill anyone ;)

  5. I was worried when I was practically starving and not seeing the scale move. Not that I anticipated dropping pounds in the first few days but it was odd that I lost 20pds before surgery and 3 days after with little to no food intake the scale hadnt moved at all. After I started drinking Protein regularly again the scale has begun to move and I think my body is out of the "starvation" stage. Get some good protein and you should be set!

  6. Yesterday was my one week post op mark. I am DEFINITIVELY hungry all the time. My stomach can only handle Clear Liquids right now but after visiting a very mince gentleman at GNC he hooked me up with some different flavored clear whey Protein. I now have grape, fruit punch, coconut, fuji, tangerine, strawberry mango, and some other flavor liquids. I recommend keeping a bottle around you at all times, anytime I feel a hunger pain 5-6 sips of protein Water cures it right away, but you have to drink it every 30 minutes or so. I started getting HORRIBLE hunger pains day 3 after surgery and this new process is going well.

  7. Im 9 days post op it does get.better. i took pain meds up until 2 days ago which was 1 week post op and had gas pain also the whole time, i think it got better when i moved onto full liquids also after 1 week, i was dying for yogurt. So just hang in there n give it a couple more days

I am glad to hear Im not the only one who had to refill their pain meds. I am day 7 post op right now. I was off pain meds for 2 days and thought I was going to die! I hope my body adjust soon and can eat full liquids. Im still on Clear Liquids only :/

  8. I have the plication with my band as well. Unlike Tara though it has done absolutely nothing to curb my hunger. My doctor suggested it for additional weight loss and also helps keep the band in place. Anything to keep things where they need to be was an OK in my book. He also told me 90% of his band patients have this procedure done as well. Wish you the best

  9. Oh gosh! I'm sorry to hear that SOL. From what I've read, it doesn't seem like the pain you are experiencing is really the norm post-op (and gosh selfishly, I hope so!) I hope you are talking with your doctor a lot about it and not trying too hard to "tough it out" on your own. Please keep us posted on how you are doing... it sounds like today is showing a sign of improvement for you. I hope that continues for you.

My triage nurse is definitively going to know by number with how much I call them. I think I found out part of my problem today though. It seems that I have become lactose intolerant which is why any dairy (Soups, protien shakes) is making me sick and in pain. I am going to be testing this theory out the next couple of days. I hope it is just a phase because I LOVE milk and cheese

  10. Hey guys!

Thanks for the support, it has been rough and I am really hoping my body will adjust to the changes. I have heard that you can become lactose intolerant from this surgery and hoping that maybe I can try full liquids by switching to a lactose free option for my Protein shakes and Soup blends. My pain has subsided substantially after getting back on pain medication hopefully my body can heal enough in the next 2 - 3 days that I don't need to depend on it anymore. I would hate to have to rely on narcotics for any longer than necessary.

  11. At this point in time...no. I would have much rather not have gone through. I am hoping this feeling will disappear as the pain disappears but I would be lying if I didnt say I wish I could take it back. I wanted to know if anyone is having the some problems as me. My thoughts are right now...

    1) I knew there was going to be pain from surgery but not THIS much pain. My body has a very low pain tolerance and doesnt accept pain medication well so since surgery I have not had a moments peace from pain

    2) I did not know my body would reject food so immediately. Now this is different for every person but in my case I am on the "full liquid" time frame but I can not digest anything other than Clear liquids. No Soups, no protien shakes, nada. Anytime I do my stomach racks up with pain

    3) I did not know I would be SO HUNGRY. 3 days after surgery the hunger pains kicked in. Real true hunger which I have NEVER experienced before then, I thought I had but I HAD NO IDEA! And because my body cant no digest the hunger remains and is worst than any pain from the surgery. Hunger is literally the only thought in my mind the past 2 days, watching movies and things my MIND and BODY ache with every food commercial and not just bad food but hell 1 commercial had apples (which IM not a fan of) and I just started crying. Which brings me to my last point

    4) Support. I needed to have much more support in line. Unfortunately 2 days after surgery most of my friends and family had gone on vacation, gone back to work, ect. I feel very alone / abandoned. I forced my boyfriend to not go to work today because I just didn't think I could handle another day of pain alone.

With all of this being said my doctor prescribed me more pain medication yesterday and my outlook is much better than it was previously. It is relieving some of the pain from pinched nerves inside my body and is helping my stomach tolerate greater amounts of liquid so I am feeling good. I am hoping that in a few days I am like most people on here saying : IM SO HAPPY ABOUT MY CHOICE , but we will see, I cant take it back now... and I have to live with the decision I made.

  13. Thanks Sol: thanks for the advice. Six days out? How are you feeling? Are you in a lot of pain? Hunger pangs - I though the LB got rid of those?

hunger pains are def there! I think that was the biggest misunderstanding about my surgery. Six days out and yesterday was terrible I have already gone through " what have I done" and " i wish I could take it back". I dont know if I am an exception but my pain has been very bad. The pain from the surgery is ok, it can be handled but in combination with gas, back pain, and the pain of hunger (which I found out I have never experienced true hunger until now) it really has been a few days out of hell Tuesday and Wednesday all I did was cry. This might be because MY BODY isnt tolerating food well. I get pain just from drinking milk and chicken broth. I can literally only handle Isopure clear Protein drinks. I have been in so much pain my doctor prescribed more Lortab, I just picked that up yesterday and can feel an immediate difference. We all have different pain thresholds and it ight be that I am just a wussy. You wont feel any hunger pains after you get your first fill but that is 4-6 weeks AFTER you heal from surgery. Essentially my stomach cant handle food but still has the appetite from before surgery. Its a hard place to be in.... I am still trying to be excited for my band and think about the future but I really do hope this pain subsides soon

  14. I would recommend a few bottles of clear Protein Drink. I had 2 bottles for the day of my surgery to drink but as it turns out my body can not process Protein Powder even 6 days after surgery! I would also recommend something to take up your time. If you like to read? draw? make sure you have those things available when the hunger pain kicks in you will want ANYTHING to keep you distracted

  15. Day 6 Post- Op. Hello, I can tell you what my doctor said. He told me 2 -3 weeks before I could lift more than 10 m pounds. I am 5 weeks away from moving myself and I think it is safe to say I will be able to help with minimal things (light boxes, putting things away, ect ) but moving my couch, tables and thing NOPE not gonna happen. And as far as swimming I was told 2 weeks of no swimming or baths, short showers only. I guess it depends on how you are stitched up after surgery? I have this superglue(ish) substance that is covering my incisions. Hope your plans work out well and good luck with your band!
