  1. Ok. So 2 times today and 1 time yesterday I have gotten a slow burning pain between my chest right above the bottom of my sternum. Is this heartburn? (I never experienced heartburn before)

Any reason this might happen. I read before heartburn can mean your band is too tight howeverrrr I only have 1 cc in my band (havent had a fill yet only 4 weeks out) so that doesnt make sense.

It has happened when I ate

    - an apple w/peanut butter

    - ground beef with cheese

I learned real quick not to eat 1 cup of solid food at a time. So I ate 3/4 cause 1/2 usually isnt enough.

The pain in bothersome but not terrible. Its dull and lingering.

  2. Talk to your Gyno to figure out what's best for you. There's a lot more than weight gain when making birth control decisions. For instance, if you're a smoker over 35 then any hormonal birth control is a risk.

I can tell you from my own experience: My Gyno said absolutely no Depo-Provera. She said it is notorious for rapid and severe weight gain.

I gain 30 pounds using Depo Shot and my face broken out in the worse case of acne you ever seen!

  3. We are band twins. I was also banded june 20th. Me and you seem to be on the same hunger schedule. I have lost 27 pds and the past two days I would eat and 2 hours later I am hungry. It sucks I even got in 100grams of Protein (still hungry). Ate over my 1,000 calories limit. Talked to the doc today she said its normal happens to everyone and thats why I havent lost weight int he past 2 weeks. I have a fill in 2 weeks if my stitches are healed by then. Wish you the best of luck. YOU ARE NOT ALONE!!!

  4. I recommend chewing ICE. I went to the movies today and I used to always get a large popcorn but I only ate it during previews. (weird i know) But instead I went to the concession and asked for a cup of ice. It feed my need to chew something and the hand to mouth motion was comforting.

  5. I was banded almost 6 months ago, 1/18/13, and have just reached 70lbs this week (including pre-op). I'm a little nervous about posting because I hate that this site is public, but I LOVE looking at progress & success pictures (kind of the same thing) and get really inspired by everyone on this site. My life is so much better, just being regular obese rather than super morbidly obese, I am so much healthier and happier than I used to be. My biggest achievement so far is my resting heart rate. At over 330lbs (my highest known weight) my resting heart rate was in the low 100s (super scary). Now, my resting heart rate is in the high 50s to low 60s - like an athlete!! I almost feel like one, too.

Thank you to all of you who share on this site and put it all out there so we don't all feel alone.

    Have a great day!!

Question, in general what type of diet do you follow?

  6. First, I love my band - it's one of the best things I've done for myself! I know enough about it that I will need a few more fills to get to the Green Zone, but I can deal with the slight hunger I'm experiencing in the meantime. What I'm overjoyed about is the variety of foods I can enjoy...and I do mean enjoy! Today I had 8 grilled shrimp and a salad for lunch - man was that tasty! Being on liquids for a long time has given me a new appreciation for food, I don't have any cravings anymore and that allows me to make better food choices. I'd also like to add that my mother was nearly in tears seeing how much I've lost already and when she saw I could eat the dinner she cooked, she wanted to scream - LOL. Baked chicken (dark meat, skinless), fresh collard greens from her garden - POWER PACKED!, fresh corn on the cob and a few black eyed peasfrom the farmer's market. Yum - my! I know that I may not be able to enjoy these foods after more fills, but for the time being, I am happy at the variety I have in my diet - all while staying under 1,200 cals a day - YEAH!

I'm still learning a lot, but I am overjoyed that I am not nearly as restricted as I thought I'd be.

I wish I could eat food again. I am 3 days from being 1 month post op and still on mushies! Im sure things will get better once I get to that point though.

  7. Thanks for all the compliments! I had stopped drawing about 2 yrs ago and figured why not start again.

Missy - I hadnt thought about walking to be a hobby or distraction but its a really good idea! Once its stops flooding here maybe i'll be able to go outside!

DylanMiles - I went to school for art education, different track but requires some art classes all the same. I was a ceramics concentration. I havent actually drawn since I started teaching though

JenWis - I am very much a gamer. My PS3 and WiiU keep me busy too

Carolina - I wish i could take bubble baths, get a good book. But I cant until my stitches have healed :(

Elcee & Bassetluv - I can not sew or stitch or crochet, those artistic abilities my grandmother did not pass down to me.

  8. Before getting my band I did not think I had an obsession with food. I just ate too much. WRONG! I am slowly coming to terms with my addiction to food because I was very much an addict as hard as that is to admit to myself.

While coming to terms with this I realized I needed a distraction. Otherwise all I think about is food. So its time to break out the hobby drawer.

Who has started a hobby to deal with the extra time that would be otherwise spent eating/cooking?

    Mine is drawing and reading.

    Colored Pencil

  9. That's really a personal question for you to ask yourself. I always tip at least $5.00 even if my meal was only $10.00. So thats what 50% lol. I was raised by a single mom who was a waitress so my heart goes out to servers a little bit more than most.

  10. I was banded 6/20 and 12 days later as the adhesive wore away I noticed my port incision was infected. I was put on an antibiotic. I completed the antibiotic Keflex (10days) called my emergency after hours nurse told her that there was still pus and swelling. She prescribed me another 10 days and told me to call the office as soon as it opens Monday.

Anyone banded had problems with their surgery stitches getting infected? Besides an antibiotic did you take anything to encourage healing?

  11. OK So I am 3 weeks post op and fairly new to the world of the Lap-Band. With this being said sometimes I have NO IDEA what you people are talking about. So I wanted to start a list of acronyms often used on the site.

    For example-

WLS - weight loss surgery ( pretty simple but still)

PB - Productive burp (?) Is this a "nice" way of saying throwing up?

    NVS - (???) NO IDEA

    PLEASE ADD TO MY LIST!

I hope this is beneficial to other new bandsters as well who might be too embarrassed to ask what these mean or can not figure it out in context.
