    JULY 2013 BAND BUDDIES

I was banded on Jul 8th and not scheduled for a "possible" fill til Aug 21st! I have neen limiting my meals to no more than a cup of food which starts with three ounces protein the reast of the cup is veggies. I make sure to get 60 grams of protein a day (I drink one shake a day to help ensure I get enough). If I am snacky in between...I have suagar free jello or popsicles and/or a greek yogurt. I am "trying" to get 4 water bottles in a day. This seems to be working for me. AND...I don't have any fluid in my band either. Hope this helps. Lisa

You and I are almost the same (time wise). I was banded 8 July and I don't get a fill til 21 Aug (if I'm still losing I won't even get a fill then). I have lost 30 lbs so far. I have a feeling I won't get a fill. Not eating much now as it is. Keep me posted on your progress. Lisa

    JULY 2013 BAND BUDDIES

I was banded Jul 8th...no fill yet. I wonder why some get a fill and some dont!? I don't have another appt til Aug 21...that's 6 weeks and 3 days since surgery! So glad to hear that a fill was no big deal...that has been stressing me a little! Lisa
  5. I was approved for the surgery BECAUSE I had high blood pressure and pre-diabetes...my BMI was not high enough on it's own, but I knew I needed help. I am/was mentally prepared for this. I kid you not ...I never feel hungry anymore. (I was banded 3.5 weeks ago) I eat only foods that I am allowed to eat in the correct portion. Full isn't the same feeling it once was. SO....I never eat more than a cup of food. When I am done....I can say...yep...I'm full and usually get a little burpy! So understand....full won't feel the same. Get yourself "right" in the mind for this journey. Follow the plan.....be prepared for the changes. People who say this "never worked for them"....I believe did not eat the right foods, the right portions, didn't time drinking Water correctly around meals! You will do great. BTW...I am already off my high blood pressure meds! Best of luck....Lisa
  6. walk...walk...walk! Drink your water...plenty of it! At three days post op was making sure I got my 60 grams of protein in! I know it sounds funny.....but I felt better when I walked. Make sure you take Tylenol between the other meds. I stopped the pain meds at day 3 with the exception of tylenol. Walking and water! You are turning the corner....Have a great day. Lisa

    JULY 2013 BAND BUDDIES

If you are on narcotic pain meds...you can not drive. I bought a new car 4 days post op...and drove it home! I was only on tylenol by then! Lisa
  9. I have a cooler bag that I keep at my desk. Everyday I bring sugar jello and/fat free sugar free pudding to have IF I start feeling hungry. I bring a greek non fat yogurt to have at breakfast. 8oz container of low fat cottage cheese or soup for lunch. mid morning I drink a protein shake. With all that AND a few bottles of water...I NEVER get hungry. If you aren't sure if you are hungry and you've already had your meals.....drink another water. Hope this helps Lisa

    Loss of hair

I specifically asked that question. I am 50. He said...you will not lose your hair if you get your 60 grams of protein a day. He also said that does happen with by-pass patients though! So far.....I haven't started losing it yet. Hope this helps...Lisa

OMG...staples...??? My Dr used glue....no stitches or staples. Hope you feel ok! Lisa
  17. Hey....congrats on your journey! Try a Gas X every day.....I found the really full feeling was actually gas. I chewed the Gas X "just in case" and was able to drink water. Started back on Protein shakes on wed (surgery was monday). Short walks very often helps a TON! Also....Gel ice pack over your clothes on your port site will help with the pain. My Dr also said to take tylenol between prescription pain pills. Only three-four days to be done with them. If I do too much in a day...I may take tylenol at night! Hope this helps...Lisa

    JULY 2013 BAND BUDDIES

Agreed....my walks are short but frequent. I also took tylenol between ozy pain meds! I don't have the pain at my port but I see that many people do and use gell ice packs to help with that. So excited for all of us....Let's stick together....Lisa
  19. I am 1 week and 2 days out.....back to work, shopping, cooking dinner for my family. Be positive...Drink your water and protein..... walk walk walk. Never got the gas pains cause I walked so much! Take a Gas X everday just in case.....and move. You will do fantastic. In 2.5 weeks I am down approxt 24 lbs. Stick to the plan and it will be well worth it! Lisa

    JULY 2013 BAND BUDDIES

Hey Banders..... 7-8-13....did great and has been a very positive experience. Only used the pain meds a few times then moved on to tylenol. 6 days post op was the last day I took that. Drinking plenty of water and walking was the BEST advise someone gave me.....! I did chew a few Gax-X tabs when I wasn't sure what the pressure in my chest was....yep...GAS! Belched every opportunity I could. ALSO....took a colace(stool softener) gel tab every day...just in case. I recieved some really great advise and wanted to pass it along. DRINK DRINK DRINK...WALK WALK WALK. I was back to work the following monday. I do sit at a desk so phyically was taxing. Looking forward to all of us sharing and supporting each other throughout our journey. Lisa
  21. Welcome and best of luck for tomorrow. Keep a positive outlook on your recovery...you will do great! Keep us posted. Lisa
  22. Sexy...THAT is why I wrote it. I was hearing some scarey stories and thought I would tell mine which seemed very positive. Tenderness and soreness is to be expected. I believe that I was so mentally ready for this journey that nothing was going to dampen my recovery. You will do great. I will be watching you. Good luck my friend! Lisa
  23. Good Morning July Banders....... Thought I would give a cliff note version of my experience.... 17 days ago I started my pre-op diet (1.5 weeks before surgery) and a week ago (Jul 8) I was banded. In that 17 days I am down 23 lbs!!! YAY Surgery went great and went home the nexy day. Wed I was sore and pretty much sat in a recliner and walked around the house a bit. On Thur (3 days post op) I went grocery shopping and cooked dinner....did the same on Friday! Starting Sat I felt very normal with the exception of the tenderness and swelling. Still have the swelling. Today is 1 week and I am back to work. I am so thankful that I had the opportunity to do this. Today I also start on full liquids. I have to say I am fortunate....no nausea, gagging and no problems getting my shakes and water in. Hoping all my friends on here have such a great experience. Happy Monday all.... Lisa
