    How long for Gerd?

Yes But the Meds contain lidocaine and it makes me very sick.
  2. My doctor has bumped me up to stage two diet, which is puree. But I haven't gotten past regular soup. Everything else hurts. It feels like it's getting stuck and then the tightness is excruciating. I'm so hungry.
  3. I have my EGD scheduled for this Wed. It's one of my final hoops before scheduling my surgery. After having to take a sleep study, I just found out that I have sleep apnea and now I have to sleep with a C-pap machine. I am so not looking forward to having a tube or camera down my throat. Can anyone shine a light on the EGD procedure and put my mind at ease? I know the doctors say it wont hurt, but really??? Are my fears unwarranted?
  4. Was Sleeved on Monday. I had single incision done. None of the pain meds they have given me have worked. I had to go see my surgeon today for wk after check up and He gave me a stronger narcotic that my insurance is dragging their feet approving and in the mean time. I am miserable. I have only been able to take down about 50 oz of water since surgery. I wish this pain period would hurry up and pass. How long was it for you?

    OMG the Pain!

Thanks everyone! I just picked up my pain meds. I paid out of pocket no way I'm waiting the whole weekend for the insurance company to contact the doctor. I wish I could stop taking all others but I need Tylenol too, I spike a fever every night on top of the pain. Luckily, I got one incision and they did it directly in my belly button so no scars to be seen, so hopefully this pain will pass soon and I will be good to go. Unfortunately, my grandfather is in his last days in the hospital and I have to just fight through this pain to get up there to see him or I will always regret it if I miss saying my goodbyes.

    OMG the Pain!

Yes, the liquid pain meds are so awful. I have extreme gerd/reflux and the GI cocktail made my throat feel like it was closing up. I have bad asthma so that experience scared the heck out of me. I can't use that stuff again. So right now I'm just ice packs and maylox.
  7. Trying to work through the pain!

  8. My surgery is Oct. 7th which is Less than 48hrs. away and I am so ready, yet not so much. My grandfather has been in the hospital for a week now and Monday morning at 9am the doctors will be removing his breathing tube. We are all very optimistic that he will be able to breath on his own and be strong. But what if he doesn't make it? I will be a mess, no way I will be able to go "under the knife" with that on my mind. Or If he is breathing on his own when I go to my surgery (which is at a different hospital, 1hr away) but something happens between when I see him that morning and the time I have to stay overnight in the hospital after my surgery. I feel like I have been waiting forever for this surgery and I am really excited to get my new life started, but I'm wondering should I postpone. And if I do postpone will I want to go through with it later? I'm so torn.
  9. Starting my 2wk pre-op liquid diet next Monday and wondering what other ppl are eating(drinking) during this period. Any thoughts?

    Liquid Diet Menu?

Wow..that is amazing.but what did they taste like? I have a seriously sensitive pallet. I can't get anything down that is suspect...lol. I had to retake my gastric emptying series 5 x's because I kept gagging back up the liquid they wanted me to swallow...ugh!

    October GS Pals?..

That's crazy that you weren't given any instruction on weight loss b4 surgery. The weight loss b4 helps shrinks your liver to speed up recovery, and surgery time. Make sure to explore this forum, lots of ppl have great ways of getting prepared..Good Luck!
  12. So, I usually make my own Protein shakes with Almond milk, whey, spinach, and whatever fruits I'm craving that day. But I need something quicker and less blending for when I'm rushing for the kids activities. Someone had mentioned Protein to go, I tried and it was Very disgusting, but even if I had liked them when I took them to my nutritionist for her input, she said they weren't as natural as they claimed to be and that she didn't think I should continue using them. So, My question is has anyone found a really good tasting Protein Drink that they recommend? I have a super sensitive gag reflex and I can't force anything I don't like down (IT WON'T STAY THAT WAY!) so pinching the nose and tossing it back will never work for me.

    October GS Pals?..

I had my consultation on July 5th. After what felt like 100 specialist visits and tests, including nutritionist and personal trainer I have oct date. So my entire process was 3 months.
  14. They are checking your esophagus and stomach. I was really nervous. I had mine done on the 4th. My surgeon found a mass on the lining of my esophagus & did a biopsy right then during the procedure. I saw him on Tues. and everything was fine, he said biopsy was negative and the surgery could happen as scheduled.
  15. Only thing left to be done now is my venous Doppler and 2nd set of labs. I start my pre-op diet on the 23rd. Now that I finally have a date, my nerves are kicking in. I'm so excited and a little scared at same time. I am my grandfather's primary care giver, so I will have to hire a nurse to come while I'm down. I have never been very disciplined with much of anything. So I'm praying that I can change my ways and really follow this new lifestyle to the "T" I have sleep apnea and asthma and between my nebulizer and C-pap, I am more than tired of these machines running my life. I need to get right for myself and my kids and I just need to stay focused and hopefully the three loved ones that actually know what I'm going through will support and help me when I feel like I may slip back to old habits. This is the best and hardest thing I have ever done for myself in my life. Is anyone else afraid they may really struggle with the change?

    October GS Pals?..

My surgeon placed me with a great Nutritionist, she didn't put me on a diet but more like she helped to add the needed nutrition to my daily meals. I am scheduled to start the 2 wk. pre-op liquid diet on the 23rd of this month, but that is the only diet required.

    October GS Pals?..

Oct. 7th for me! Now that I have a date I feel like I am rushing to put all my affairs in order. So excited and nervous at the same time!
  18. At least I'm not alone. I too have been waiting to schedule the date and now that I have, the days are ticking away. And as I'm making plans for nurses and sitters, my mom slips in these comments about "What if something goes wrong during surgery or you have complications afterwards?" She keeps pushing for me to have extra days in place "Just in case" That just adds stress to my own fears.

    Protein Shakes?

My NUT is part of the package as well. My surgeon works with all the specialties. I have Nutritionist, Personal Trainer, Cardiologist, Pulmonologist, Psychologist. They all work together to get my clearances on same page. I don't think its mandatory to have one but she helps me out loads. Anything I'm not sure about I just pick up the phone or text her a photo of a label and she gives me feedback, same with trainer. If I feel I'm not benefiting from a exercise regime he will change it up for me. If you feel you need extra support in those areas, check with your insurance for a Nut/trainer that is covered. Or I know that my surgeons support groups have a psychologist and nutritionist present during every meeting for questions and support and those are generally free at your local hospitals. Check it out! Good Luck!
  20. Thanks! I am hoping there is no throat irritation. I just learned that I have sleep apnea, so on top of now sleeping with a C-pap machine, my mother(a nurse) just informed me that I will most likely be intubated during the actual surgery and that for sure my throat will be inflamed...Ugh!
  21. I have been mixed with anxiety and excitement since my 1st visit with the surgeon. I understand where you are coming from. I had the same thoughts about the whole cutting part of your stomach out and the long term and effects. I originally planned on having the Lapband done, mostly because you don't have that drastic measure of changing your body's anatomy. But after thorough research and testimony from ppl who have had either surgery done (Which I know you went through as well) I decided that this was the best option. I too have tried everything under the sun to lose weight on my own to no avail. If you were able to get through the 2wk liquid diet then I have no doubt that you will make it through the rest of your life with out a hitch. Just know it's mind over matter. I have a tiny tattoo on my wrist of my highest weight. A small simple reminder of where I am right now and where I never want to be again. Whenever you feel like you won't make it through, just remember the way you felt at your highest weight and keep pushing through! Best of Luck, can't wait to see how well you do!

    Psych Eval

My Psych Eval. consisted of a 5 min. Q & A. My psychologist sat behind a computer screen and read off a check list of questions. Who did you grow up with? Do you have a good relationship with your parents? Do you have a significant other? Do you have support at home for after surgery? Are you now or ever been on Medication for depression? Highest level of education? All my answers were brief and basically one word answers. He didn't go into depth on anything and never wanted any elaboration. Honestly, I left there wondering how anyone doesn't pass with him. I suppose every psychologist is different in his evaluation, but best thing you can do for yourself is be honest about everything. In every consult during this process, because withholding information can only hurt you in the end. Good Luck!
  23. I also have hard to find veins, so whenever I give blood or get an IV they tend to dig in my arm. Hopefully, as you have all said, the IV will be the worst of it. Thanks again!
  24. Thanks for the replies. I feel a little better, but I know I will still be shaky on the day!
