  1. Congratulations! That is an impressive loss! Why is pcp in such a hurry? I've always thought 2lbs per week is a healthy pace. So if you can maintain this pace, which is not realistic really, you would be at your goal in about 38 more weeks, which I think is around March 2014. The last pounds near goal are always the biggest challenge. I would be estatic with your progress so far, I'm sorry your pcp is not very motivational or supportive.
  2. Background: I am 49, 5'5" and 227lbs. I have type II diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol, sleep apnea and depression. I have completed 4 months of the 6 month required by insurance, weight loss attempt. I have dieted before and got to 190 lbs but it never lasts. I get discouraged and give up. I've been married five years. My husband is 6' and 175lb. His weight has not changed in five years! On an impulse I went to True Results one day and checked out lapband surgery. I like the idea and want to get approved for insurance to cover the procedure. Since it was an impulse I didnt discuss this with Dan first. After two months of appointments, Dan said he would rather put the money needed for surgery into a patio. I didn't comment since I wasn't entirely sure if I would want the band. I just signed up for a gym membership with a personal trainer for 30 mins. 1 time per week. The trainer is concerned about the surgery having seen many complications from the band when he worked in a hospital. At this point I am still keeping an open mind regarding all solutions and have started to try to lose weight. I was afraid if I lost much weight the insurance wouldn't cover the surgery, but I am ready to lose weight and feel it is in my best interest to at least try right now. So last night I was telling Dan about the first meeting with personal trainer and how trainer is advising against the band and Dan said, again.... he would rather spend the money on the patio than a lapband for me. I figure my out of pocket cost will be in the $2300 range and I have $1500 in flexible spending available. I feel like he is being a selfish b*st*rd but wonder am I really the selfish one?

  6. You are right mich. I've ordered the big lap band book and have read the book provided by true results. I have the support of my primary care physician and will make an educated decision for myself. It is my decision and I do work so I have my own money. It just really devaluates me when an effing patio is more important than me to my husband. I feel like a person who h as a roommate instead of a lobing caring spouse. I'm afraid I do need a good bit of counseling. I am not desiring the single life again. I'm on marriage number 3!! Once again, this is what I agreed to and I am wondering once again what have I done! Yep. I take antidepressants already, got that covered. Thanks to everyone here for your sippport. It does help to know I'm not being sensitive or selfish but sometimes being right doesn't bring on the warm fuzzys ill be fine. I'm strong. And I'm smart. Just fat and depressed! Lol.

  9. We went to visit Dan's dad in hosp. This week-end. 250 miles each way. Plenty of opportunity to chat. While with his family, I mentioned ill probably be getting lapband. Also told them Dan doesn't want me to get it because he wants to put money into backyard. He even tried to support his position further by saying how we have things to repair. I told him and his mom, just great, then you can enjoy patio while I'm dead. He gave an uncomfortable nod and grin. I'm so upset I just haven't been able to chit chat in the car. We are still on what I feel is a miserably quiet ride home. 90 more miles. About half an hour ago he said he will support my decision to get band. I should be relieved, and understanding that he just can't wrap his head around my issue with weight. .. instead I'm still very hurt. And pissed off. I've lost a lot bmp of respect for him.

    Met my surgeon

This is such an emotional subject and I would like to add my two cents, please. I truly feel like BayouG has her heart in the right place but chose words that were not always the best (new connies for example) . I don't think her intention was attack mode and I'm sorry this thread has wound up more like a near miss traffic incident complete with horns honking. I think if we were able to talk face to face things would go a bit more smoothly. I hope this thread can be forgotten quickly. To band or not is SUCH a darn difficult decision that I am struggling with as well. I see the points you are both making, and can understand why Connie was insulted. I would have not been happy either. We do need support here and we need to hear the truth. I know I do not want the truth sugar coated, but I also don't need barbed wire.

I am so sorry about your insurance! However, I disagree with seeing PCP for reflux ir just taking Otcmeds. The band could be too tight and your PCP may not be good with bands. You can get a PCP to make adjustments and they also can be done in ER by those not familiar enough with the equipment, resulting in major problems with band that could lead to removal. I'm really sorry but I think psuing the $200 is your best bet. Better for your health and possibly better for your bank account. Keep me posted!

So far it sounds like we three could share the same closet! I think I am older than you rwo. I'm 49 and your pictures that are smaller on my phones screen than my pinky finger nail look to be in your twenties. I would like to keep up with you two as well. June 13 is fast approaching! That will be one down, two to go! I will be last, prob in September.
  15. I ended the food festival on monday. Wow that was only yesterday? !! I do feel better about myself, like I have put on my "face of determination". I stand taller and feel more confident. Funny since it has been only one trip to the gym and two days of tracking foods! I tried the free website with coordinated phone appfrom my fitnesspal.com. I really like it. You can scan you lunch w your phone to easily log items not in database. I drank my last diet soda on hand and will not stock more at home. When ice cream is gone it is gone for good. I'm really getting ready! But have to wait whole summer
  16. My "Fat Tuesday" is over now. I went to gym for first time in years today and kept calories under 1000. Hopefully will get band in around two months.

New to this site and disappointed

One more thing before this topic expires.... I adked my pc if he has seen patient because of band complications. He said, "oh, yes!" I then asked it the problems were due to non-compliance and he said no! He said that I woild be far more likely to die of heart disease, hypertension, or my type 2diabetes, then from the lapband. He therefore supports my decision to get lapband.

I am also very sorry you are having so many problems with the band. I'm extremely new here, and am 2 months away from getting a band. I appreciate you letting me know the negative side of being banded. I have read a lot about the band and continue to learn at obsessive rate. I was surprised to read the anti-inflammatory drugs like aspirin can erode the band. There are many ways the band can be screwed up and if you were banded 20 years ago, I'm really hopeful that there have been some improvements along the way. I do appreciate you standing up for the under dog, but my experience with this forum has not found bashers..... to me it seems everyone relays their own experience in an honest, caring manner. If s omeone received negative feedback, I trust it is in their best interest. Quite Honestly you are the first angry/hostile poster I've come by on this forum. I really hope you feel much better soon, I think your not feeling well is playing a major role in your thought process at the moment. Please follow up and let us know how things go for you. I'm interested in knowing what isvwrong with your band.
  19. I call it "Fat Tuesday" I gained 3 pounds in last month. I bit embarrassing since it was a weight LOSS visit! Looking to be banded in September and cannot wait to expand my wardrobe. I have very few outfits in my current size 18. A good size stack of 16 that I wish didn't look like sausage casings on me. With Bmi of 39 and co-morbidities I'm afraid to lose weight before band. I want insurance to cover this procedure. Tomorrow is first meeting with personal trainer at gym. These are confusing times for me.
