  1. 3 months banded, down 32 llbs and thought I was starting to have Pb's and band slipping. Couldn't really tell, just in a lot of pain after meals. Turned out to be my gall bladder was full of stones, so I had surgery wed night at University General. Awesome Hospital. Had to go there so someone with Band experience could remove the gall bladder. I feel so much better, and yet I hurt worse from the surgery then from when I was banded. Now it looks like no fat is a going to be a must!. It is weird with the band, I couldn't tell where the pain was coming from, I'm just glad it's fixed. :sick
  2. That seems like an awful low calorie amount. I'm at 1000 a day.. give or take a few. I get full. I found that fitday.com is a great way for me to track my intake.
  3. For me it was pain after eating.. at first I thought it was something stuck in the band but it was lingering, Frequently after eating I would get clammy and lightheaded with this stabbing pain in my diaphragm and it hurt to take a deep breath. The night I ended up in the ER I felt as if I was being stabbbed in the back underneath the shoulder blade running around the right side under my breast, the stabbing came in waves and nothing, no position alieviated the pain and discomfort. I would break out in a sweat and just cry in pain.
  4. trust me.. it hurts like hell! I'm still healing from it, I healed faster from the band then from getting my gallbladder out.
  5. I haven't had any problem with my fills, I've had two so far, At the first fill someone told me to schedule an appt. a month later for my second one, and it was good advice because I needed another. One can debate doctors all day long, the most important thing is who are you most comfortable with.
  6. I was having the same thing and thought it was my band. It turned out to be my Gallbladder. I had to have emergency surgery to remove it on wed. Get it checked out. Trust me you don't want to experience the pain of a stuck gall stone.
  7. I think it all depends on what you want in a surgeon. From what I hear Dr. Spivak is hands on, and has great follow up. Dr. Spiegal has the most experience and surgical skill, I'll be the first to admit your treated like cattle at the office. HOWEVER, I've been very please with my band and I'm losing great, I don't like to be micro managed so Dr. Spiegal was the choice for me. I had to have emergency gall bladder surgery this week and he referred me to an excellent surgeon, and there were no complications. Surgical skill and competence is what was most important to me in choosing a doctor.
  8. Good Luck, Your on the road to a new you!

HELP Wedding two weeks after surgery

I wouldn't do it.. No means no. I'm sure she means well, but 2 weeks out you will be worn out just getting everyone there. Offer to do something behind the scenes at the reception if you must, but there was no way you'd catch me in a girdle at 2 weeks.

    Post Op Feeling Bad

I may stir the pot here but everyones body is different and every doctor has different diets. While my doc in a perfect world wanted liquids the first week post up and soft foods the second. I know my body well enough to listen to it. The diarrhea was the first sign that I needed to listen to my body, and cut the protein drinks, and logically I could find no reason for not drinking other things that were the same consistency, so after about day 5 post op I started drinking soups.. then after about 4 days of soups, I started on mushy, because my body told me I needed more bulk. I was on full solids by about two weeks. I disagree with some of the more radical diets that people try that put thier bodies in a state of ketosis. I don't think it is healthy or wise but to each his/her own. For me I listen to my body, except that I tell it how much and when it can have what it wants.
  13. Thanks for sharing pics.. I had a reduction done 10 years ago and it was the best thing I ever did. Can't even see my scars now. I worry about needing another lift as I loose weight. Tummy tuck is for sure in my future. Thanks again for sharing.

How can I best support my wife

My hubby went out of his way to prepare the kids meals and not eat around me, the first week, but I was missing the family time. The big thing now is for him to eat slow so as to keep pace with me. He was a big help with bathing, scratching my back while I was sore from the surgery. The best help now is simply being there. Sometimes if I eat to fast or swallow to big a bite I get chest pains and have to walk around.. he is always watching to make sure I'm not in pain. Just knowing he cares is very comforting.. but the creme de la creme is he changed his jogging schedule so that we can now take long walks together every evening. He still runs, but not as much, just does twice as much walking and now with me!.

    Post Op Feeling Bad

The Protein drinks gave me the runs,, so I switched to milkshakes, and soups. A lot of people can't tolerate the sucralose in them.

    Pizza??

Depends on what is on your pizza.. If you make it yourself, it can be quite healthy. Carbs are necessary for optimal health and energy, just not to excess. My favorite is one with balsamic viniger, spinach, tiny bit of ricotta cheese, and shrimp.
  19. I'm still so glad I had this done. The pain has been manageable. Had I not found this site and did my homework I would have been much worse off. Thankfully, the teacher in my spent hours reading up on everyone and followed alot of your advice, and I'm in day two now and to be honest doing great!. The key is the walking and moving.. it really is.. Here is how I went about my last 24 hours 5am Arrived at hospital 7 am prepped for surg. IV and a nasuea pill, and leg compression wraps. LAst minute weight of 268 8:30 am.. Surgery Don't remember a thing, aside from flirting with the doctors who wheeled me in. 9:30 Waking up in recovery.. Throat hurt like hell, had a hard time taking a deep breath, and keeping my eyes open. 10:30 Wheeled up to my room, Where DH was asleep in my bed. doozed on and off, trying to come out on anestheia. throat was a sore. 11:30 Groogy but awake, took a lap around the hospital floor. 12: needed to pee, but couldn't.. (anesthesia) 12:30: Barium swallow. NAsty stuff, but not bad.. wide awake now 12:45 Pee'd.. yeah.. They brought me food.. Jello, broth, tea. I ate half the jello, a cup a tea and all the broth.. 1: took another walk down the hall, while DH packed up 1:30 Discharged. Iv's out. 2:00pm. Home sweet home.. Car ride wasn't bad except for pot holes, I took the pillows someone mentioned.. Helped alot to have them on my tummy 2:30 Napping on couch sort of.. 3.pm Walking around the house in laps. Moving my arms in circles in alternate directions. took gas X pain is there, but took a darvocet. crushed it in a motor and pestal, mixed with 1 tablespoon grape juict.. Swig like a shot, chase with sip of Water then clean palette with a 1/4 chopped up popsicle. 4pm. Still walking.. sitting at pc.. trying to keep moving in some way.. 5.pm.. I'm hungry.. Drink some broth, realize the dog can't be picked up and helped on the couch, she isn't happy. drank juice, drank tea 6 pm. Walked to the corner 4 x's ( only 2houses away) in my loud and obnoxious mumu.. 7pm.. Took another Darvocet with popsicle chaser laid on the couch and walked intermitently in the house.. trying to take a lap or two in the living room and kitchen every hour. Was surprised how hungry I was. 8pm. Drank an Ensure.. a little too fast I might add.. got the gurgles.. not painfull, just wierd. need to learn to listen to my body. Took more gas x. laying with heat on my shoulder, pain is managable.. helps if I rotate my arm alot. So I do that while walking. He is laughing at the naked propeller walking through the house.. (too hot in the mumu) 9pm.. starting to get sleepy, still moving about the living room, 10pm.. Get in bed for the first time. A major challenge since our bed is 38" off the floor. This is a comedy of errors. I can't just hop in.. our footstool from the office won't support my wieght, hubby brings in the step ladder, that won't angle and fit in the space. End up with positioning my butt against the bed.. and pushing with my legs to scoot back on the bed, then laying down at an angle holding on the DH's arm. We took one of those armed bolster pillows and made a backrest, and piled it with pillows.. this helped immensely. The only area I needed help with was getting in and out of bed. Doozed until the Daughter came home at 11. 11:30 took another Darvocet, when to the Bathroom. Hurting a bit, more from laying down and not moving. Decide to do some laps. Walk in circles around the kitchen while Dh is doing dishes. I found that i only hurt when I stop moving, for longer periods than an hour. I've noticed that the swelling /bloating had left my upper stomach, looks more normal now. 3:30 Another Darvocet. This section of the night was the worse.. I kept having to wake DH up to help me sit up, didn't have the strength to get from laying down to a sitting position. I had removed the Bolster, Bad Idea,so I put it back. took a few more laps, back to bed 6:30 awoken by the storms.. Feel good.. Not taking anything.. walking abit.. back to bed.. able to get out and in bed without assistence.. still need a push from behind my back with sitting up. 9:30. Up for the day.. Took some tylenol. gas-x, my thyroid pill, and flintston vitamen and drank a cup of tea. 10:15.. Noticing I'm starting to bloat again, in my upper stomach and that the gas is moving into my shoulder, I'm attributing this to not walking much yet, so I take another darvocet. I'm only taking a half dose each time but it is enough. I have a pretty high pain tolerance, was going to start taking tylenol instead but I could feel the tummy starting to hurt and weakness with getting up.. Really need to walk.. so I said.. why suffer.. took it, as I'm writing this.. now going to do some walking.. Wish it wasn't raining so I could go outside. So far so good.. Drinking some broth now.. while I start my walk.. :clap2:
  20. friday marked two weeks for me, and I dug a pond in the back yard, it took about 8 days for me to not guard the wound.

    I'm Hungry!

I have to wait until May 1st to get my first fill. I need/want it now. I'm hungry, My appietite has returned with a vengance. I'm still keeping it to <1000 calories a day, but I am just starving. I eat my meals, and an hour later.. I'm hungry again. I'm getting plenty of protein, it's sugar I'm craving. I'm walking 4 miles a day, but all the sudden the weight stopped dropping. I was getting excited to see the scale change everyday. It went up a 1/2 lb yesterday and no change today. ARGH!!!!!!!:angry
