    I have my date!!!!

Congratulations on getting your date. Is your Dr. the same one that K. Ali (Muhammad Ali's daughter) had?
  2. Preparing meals can be a little tricky, I have to remember not to taste test and get somebody else to tell me if I've put in enough seasoning. It's also hard when you cook something that you really like. I found it a lot easier when I had them eating microwave meals but my family is use to home cooking so it's a daily challenge. I did make myself a dish that I wanted which was soft chicken breast, soft rice and soft broccoli, all which the Dr. said I could have as long as it was mushy (easy to chew) that was good, my husband kept eating it out of the pan, mind you it was only suppose to be for me for a couple of days but he managed to leave me some for my dinner the next day. Wish I could tell you that its easy but it's not for me, I just have to stay focused on my new lifestyle and my new tool and keep on moving. Good Luck.

    Shoulder pain?

The shoulder pain is a result of gas pains, purchase an electric heating pad it helps.
  4. Congratulations Bamalama on your surgery and your weight loss. It's good to hear you are doing great. Are you about to start your mushy stage? I can eat waffles with very little syrup and they are good.

    has anyone put weight on?

The band was not designed to reduce the type of foods you eat, as the Doctor's stated eventually you will be able to tolerate any kind of foods, you should just work on eliminating the unhealthy ones from your diet. You have show some self conrol when, I have read several post throughout this forum about how people can eat so much before and after their fills, you may need another fill to reduce your appetite. Talk to your Doctor and your nutritionist and advise them of your problem. Make sure you choose healthy foods, don't snack between your 3 meals and try to control your portion size, if you do eat more than 4 ounces of food make sure it's something that is healthy. Are you getting in your excercise? I wish you the best of luck, keep us posted.
  6. My port is in the same place. I was sore at first but I kept on moving around, walking, being active. The pain will subside and you will be glad that you are banded. The pain is just a small part you will soon be able to bend and do everything that you would normally do. I am 12 days post op and I feel fine. I know the port is there but it is not bothering me at all and I can actually bend down to tie my own shoes. Best of luck and congrats on being banded. Welcome to band land....

    Post-Op Supplies

What ever you do make sure you get you an electric heating pad, you will definitely need it. I brought mine from WalMart for $10.00. Fill your prescription filled. Make sure you have a pillow to seperate yourself from your siginificant other if you share your bed so they want hit you in the stomach. Get your shakes, water and juice. For the ladies a sport bra is also good. Make sure you have something comfortable to sleep in. Last but not least make sure you have someone that will help care for you, I know I did (my husband). Rest....Walk.....Hydrate....Rest
  8. I just want to welcome you all to band land. I want all of you to know that you are all normal and those of you that can burp consider yourselves lucky, it was the one thing I wish I could've done more of. You should be feeling better any day now. Remember to walk a lot and drink as much of your protein shake as possible, it's okay if you can't drink the whole can at one time. I am just getting to the point about 2 days ago where I can actually drink the whole shake. The more time that passes the more you will be able to drink. Keep in mind that you will have the ability to eat more when your swelling goes down before you actually have your first fill, but try not to over eat as that may make you gain weight. Think healthy. You all seem to be progressing well, keep us posted....:clap2:
  9. This is my first day home since being banded and I just got up from yet another nap. I want to burp so bad to avoid the gas building up, do you have any advice. I am walking around the house because it's to hot for me to go outside right now and I am trying to get my lunch shake in because I was just to full off of the 2 ounces of juice that I drunk over an hour ago.

    Post Op/ food sticking

It sounds to me as if you're doing fine. I have read several threads on this site where people talk about their stomach's being able to hold a large amount of food before their first fill and then some say that it takes them a couple of fills so you are normal. I would advise you to just keep in mind that you are working on a change of life, habits and weight loss and try to eat smaller healthier meals. If anything make sure you get in your protein and veggies and eat slower. Chew your food until it is mushy which can happen in 30 to 50 chews in my opinion especially if its a chicken breast, the book said only 20 to 30 but a few more chews has never hurt anybody. Remember not to drink 30 minutes before or until 1 hour after your meal. Stay focused! Keep in mind that you have worked this hard to get this far and that there is no turning back. Eat smart. Lose Weight. Be Healthy. It's all in your hands.:whoo:

    can someone explain?

It's true, the pre-op diet helps to shrink the liver making surgery that much easier. They actually have to work close to your liver and if I'm not mistaken the liver is somehow sewn to the band I wouldn't say the whole thing but a part of it. You should view the surgery on line and you can see what I'm talking about.
  12. Best of Luck Sweety, I was just banded last Thursday and felt just like you. I couldn't even put my feelings into words because I couldn't determine if I had any but one thing is for sure once it was done and I came through I was so happy. Everything will go great. I can't even remember going into surgery but I remember waking up somewhere, it was a cinch. No pain no gain. I've lost 13 lbs since last Thursday so I'm still excited. You will feel fine once it's over and the only other words you will be thinking of is it's finally begun.
  13. I am so tired of drinking these shakes it's been 2 1/2 weeks if you include the Pre-Op diet and I am tired of shakes. I want to be able to chew something. I am not hungry or anything drinking the shakes, I'm still losing weight daily but I'm just tired of drinking shakes for everymeal. Does anyone else feel the way I do? I guess I should be thankful to be losing the weight.
  14. I feel your pain, I am going thru the same thing right now. I am so tired of these shakes and just want something else to eat, but everytime I get on that scale I smile on this liquid diet I am losing about 1 to 2 pounds daily, I'm assuming its just a lot of water weight but I will accept it any way I can. Let's continue to try to be strong, I have a total of 3 more days left until I can go on mushy so I'm going to try to hang in there, Jenuse you do the same. We can do it
  15. My surgery went well and my Doctor told me I did great. I'm healing pretty good, I have a little bit of gas but I feel like I really want to burp it out. I don't even like soda but would love to have a sip to burp it all out.
  16. Hello everyone thought I've give you an update. I was banded on yesterday and doing quit well. I did a lot of walking around while I was at the hospital now I'm home and trying to wait for the weather to change, it's to hot outside right now, I will have to wait until the late evening. I'm am a little sore on the stomach but my back hurts more, I believe that is due to the terrible little hospital bed and me having a bad back.:clap2::clap2:

    Drinking Soda

Im 3 days post op and wanted to take just a sip of soda to help me burp because I can feel it in my chest but I haven't summed up enough courage to do it.. I know that it will help me to burp alot which is what I really need right now.
  19. Thank you all for the encouraging words thats why I shared my experience because I can count on my bandmates to help me through. I go under in two more days. I found out yesterday from the Doctor that I have h. Pylori but they said not to worry and called me in a prescription they don't have to reschedule my surgery or anything so that's great. I'm glad they told me about the h. pylori because I was wondering why I would get nauseaus from time to time. I will keep you all posted on my progress. I will weigh in tomorrow morning since I haven't done so in a couple days to see if the scale changed any.:clap2:

    June 07 Bandsters

Hello bandmates! I didn't see where we had any responses about our surgeries, pre-op, post -op, pain, ports, etc. I'm doing well, enjoying this website. I'm on line daily checking out the site. My day is getting closer and closer and I can't even describe how I feel. I'm excited but then I don't know I just want to get the surgery over with.

    June 07 Bandsters

Hello mvr, I actually started my pre-op a couple days earl, but I really started on the 4th of June. I have two shakes a day, a sandwich and 1 cup of salad with lettuce, raw broccoli, and onions for my raw veggie. I cheated on Friday and had a drink and a slice of pizza for dinner. I'm back on track now.

Hello mvr, I actually started my pre-op a couple days early. I have two shakes a day, a sandwich and 1 cup of salad with lettuce, raw broccoli, and onions for my raw veggie. I cheated on Friday and had a drink and a slice of pizza for dinner. I'm back on track now.
  23. I am on the official pre-op today prescribed by the nutrionist, now let me remind all of you that I have been drinking these Slim Fast Optima shakes for a week now and eating a sensible meal but as of today the sensible meal has been reduced to a sandwich and 1 cup of raw veggies, so now I'm starving. I know this is all psychological because all last week I was fine with the shakes and dinner but now I feel as if my stomach is on my back. Did any of you feel the same way? I think I need to drink more water because I was a little busy today so I didn't get much in. Any suggestions, please share.:hungry:

    Pre-Op Hunger

I'm hanging in there on the pre-op. I have turned my chicken breast into chicken spread and everything. I guess tomorrow I will go back to the roast beef luncheon meat because I can honestly say I'm tired of the chicken. Good luck all!
