    Soon to be banded in Richmond

    Hello Bandmates! It's been a while since I've visited this forum, it doesn't appear on the main page of the site so I will have to remember to check in weekly. I read all of your post and just wanted to say Congrats to all. Crishell, i'm sure we have probably passed one another in the store from time to time and don't even know it, but it's nice to know that you are near and that we are on the same track. I'm doing okay with my weight loss but I keep eating soup for lunch and dinner and like someone mentioned earlier it only fills you up for the moment I need to focus on more protein. I will check weekly to see everybodies progress, keep up the good work be it pre or post op, you can do it.
  2. Hey losingjusme what is a free day? You mentioned water weight, what's that all about. Your weight loss numbers are great and so I'm curious, I need some pointers. I can't wait until my numbers look good like yours. What is a typical meal for you....breakfast, lunch, dinner, snack?

    Unsuportive relative

    I can relate to both of you. I have a sister that seems to have a problem with the lapband too. She knows of someone else that had the surgery and her comments were "yeah right, how dumb is that to have to wait 30 minutes before a meal and 1 hour after to drink something, who is going to be running to a Dr. to get a needle every month". I didn't say a word about it because she doesn't know I had the surgery but her negativity towards our friend was enough to help me decide not to tell her about my band. I didn't do it out of shame only that I don't feel like having all the people in my business and beside she has commented on it more than once about banding, she lost weight on her own about 100 pounds but she has gained 15 to 20 back so far and has been trying all summer to lose the weight but she has re-discovered the fact that she loves food. Don't get me wrong I will tell her one day about my surgery but when I reach my goal or come within 20 pounds of it. My husband and kids agree that I shouldn't tell anyone in the family not even my friends, they all want it to be our little secret for now. My point is just continue losing the weight. Buy you clothes that make you feel good. Misery loves company. Love yourself regardless, do what makes you happy. Family can be cruel and we will all have one or two jealous one's in the family but lose the weight and walk with your head up high.

This is just what I needed. I chose my stats because of want2beme's numbers since we are at the same weight. I hope I can do it or at least come close. My birthday is in December so I could stand to lose some pounds and since this weather is changing I can get back out there and hopefully start jogging again. I haven't jogged in about 2 months because it's been so hot so lets see what the next 11 1/2 weeks can do. Good Luck everyone! I really do want to see my weight under 200 pounds. My reward will be a small shopping spree, you know like 3 new outfits or something. Has anyone else set up a reward for reaching their goal? It just adds a little something extra to it for me.:whoo:

When ever you feel that the walls are caving in around you, family, friends and siginifcant others are testing their limits, try to exercise, if you can't go walking clean the house, get an exercise tape try not to eat (binge) because in the end you would be hurting yourself more than anything any one person could hurt you. You have made a life long decision to be a bandster don't lose focus just because a couple of people tried to push your buttons. Think of the new thin, lean, healthy you and say that today is going to be a good day. I read a post on this site last week where the person shared a few words of wisdom that she read and it basically stated that we have choices, we choose what kind of day we are going to have, be it good or bad so since reading that, I choose to have a good day everyday and I say go away nay sayers, I am claiming this as a good day and nothing anyone says or does will change that. I have been working on finding the positive. When all else fells come to the site and just let it all out, we are all here for you. We are your bandmates and bandmates work it out together. I'm glad you had a better day but I thought I would share with you and other bandsters just in case anyone needed it. Keep your head up and your band tight...

    Lunch Ideas

    I like to have a small salad for lunch or a cup of soup. Today I had a taste for a cheeseburger, I could only eat half of it. I also tried Chilli with a small salad one day for lunch. I guess these could be considered comfort foods for bandsters because I notice a lot of people eat the same thing. I usually try a stick of low fat cheese and a couple of crackers for a snack when I can remember.

    Those of you that drink alcohol

    I waited about 4 to 6 weeks before I had my first drink. I like sangria a couple of nites a week to relax and keep my cholesterol in check but I do have a tendency to have a glass or two of brandy on the weekend especially since I've been going to barbeques or parties for the past couple of weekends. I stopped using soda and just add a little ice and water (you get use to the taste of the water) but I do feel tipsy faster.

    i did it!

    Hello everyone, it's great seeing everybodies excercise goal, I need one bad, please help me. I have to admit that I have been doing bad with the excercise the past few weeks, we have been having bad weather and it is extremely hot, I have been doing the basics, taking the stairs, parking further away, walking only about 1/4 mile a couple of times a day across the parking lot, but I really need to excercise. I would appreciate any suggestions. Are there any good workout DVD's that I can purchase. I need to try to use some of the equipment I have in my house...treadmill, gazelle, weight bench, and ab scissor lounge, if you have an excercise routine that you can share with me. I need to tone and lose weight. I know I can loose so much more weight if I excercised more.:help::help:
  10. I love to drink water with my meals so I am still trying to adjust to this new eating where I have to wait one hour after eating to have a glass of water. This by far is the hardest part of the diet, I think planning my meals daily is not as hard as this. Is anybody else experiencing any difficulty waiting to drink your beverages after you eat? Any advice that you can give me will be appreciated.

    Soups

    I like the campbell's soup at hand and the regular campbell's chicken noodle. I also like the Progresso (minestrone, that's my new favorite until I get tired of it). I have even broken down and made my own homemade soup even though it's summer and I will probably make me another pot tomorrow since you have me thinking about it.
  12. I was able to eat mushy food for lunch today like my DR said but when I tried to eat my mushy dinner just the smell of food alone made my stomach hurt. I decided to just drink some water and go to bed. I think that I will just try my soup in a can tomorrow. Any suggestions you have will be appreciated.

    Bad news from my doctor

    Way to go cookielover, you will do great with the surgery. Check out this site as much as possible and whenever you have questions and you can't find the answers listed on a thread then post your own and we are all sure to respond. You can do it! I am routing for you. You are about to enter bandland.... Keep us posted on your progress.
  14. I went for my first fill today and thought I would only have to do 24 hours of liquids only to find out that I have to be on liquids for 4 days. It's the pits since our family reunion is tomorrow. I wanted to at least try to eat a grilled burger but I guess, I'd better fill up on Protein Shakes. Did anybody else have to go back to the shakes for 4 days? I wanted to eat a salad from Quiznos but I guess I should have ate it yesterday because I want be able to now for 4 days.:help:

    Has Anyone's Port Moved?

    I don't think the port moves either, I think you are just getting you to having a foreign object inside your body. Talk with your Dr. and make sure that you get the answers you are looking for. You should be able to call the office and ask the NP. Good Luck!

  17. Good luck with your approval, everything will workout for the best. I wouldn't do anything differently because every mistake teaches me something new so I will continue to go with the flow. Keep up the good work, with the eating and excercise.
  18. I feel your pain, I am feeling the same way but I try to keep in mind that this is Bandster Hell and that I need to watch what I eat. My problem now is eating to late in the evening so as of today I'm going back to my normal way of making sure that I eat my dinner by 8:30 so that I can be finish by 9:00. I also went to the grocery store and purchased some fruit and 100 calorie ice cream for those hot days since my Doctor said to keep your snacks around 100 calories and try to limit it to one a day. My first fill will be next Friday, July 20, 2007, I can't wait. We will all get through this difficult time together.
  19. I am feeling really bad right now, I had a small drink while on my pre-op, and a slice of pizza. I had a lot of stuff going on this weekend, I went to two concerts, one Friday and one Saturday so my eating was off. I had one drink and a slice of pizza, I lost 1.5 pounds in the two days but I'm worried that my Doctor will know that I had a drink. I know it probably didn't help with shrinking my liver. What's wrong with me? I really want to have my surgery but yet and still I indulge (I must be crazy).
  20. I had a barbeque at my house yesterday and my family and friends were eating, drinking, dancing and having a great time. My band and I did great, we didn't indulge in all the food or drinks. I am so proud of myself. I found myself at 10 pm contemplating eating or drinking some water and since I didn't know how much longer I would be up for the night I decided to fill up on water. I think that was a smart decision I made considering in the past I would have gone for the late night meal. I didn't do good with my dinner because I basically didn't eat but I didn't over eat either I just made sure I kept myself hydrated. How was your day? Care to share?:whoo:
  21. Panda, I hope you are getting the answers you need. I must tell you that I agree with allwright because I to was advised that I would have to make some changes with my diet and exercise in order to achieve weightloss. It is fair to assume that you will not lose the weight quickly with the band and I feel that one shouldn't expect to either since we didn't get to this point over night. My only problem with the band so far granted I'm only two weeks post op is that I have to wait 1 hour after my meal to drink my water because I love water. I have found myself in the last two weeks craving the water more than the mushy food or the shakes. I would have the surgery all over again if I had to. I met with my Doctor today and they have scheduled me for my first fill in two weeks, that's because my Doctor wants me to succeed and wants me to stay in control of my portion size. Right now my restriction is around 4 to 5 ounces of food but I try to stay at 4. I don't even feel like I have had any surgery because I am not sore or anything. I only had a few days of gas pains but other than that everything is great. Keep reading the threads, I'm sure you will make the best decision. Keep us posted. Best of luck!

  23. I'm two weeks out also and I must say the pain does get better. I generally made sure that I moved around and didn't just lay down all day to get some walking in and movement to ensure that my muscles wouldn't stiffen up on me. The pain should subside soon. I can even lay on my port side maybe not the whole entire night but I'm getting there. I don't lift anything over 10 lbs. and I make sure that I bend to tie my own shoes just to say I'm not letting my muscles get stiff. Hang in there.:whoo:

    Help make my decision

    Hello jvflorida, I just wanted to tell you that you are never to old to take charge of your health. It is the best thing that you could do for yourself and your family. Your grandkids will love to be able to have fun time with you at the park, mall, etc... you get the idea. There are a lot of people throughout this site that is close to your age group and loving their new tool. Best of luck. Keep us posted.
