    multi vitamin and calcium

You should wait 1-2 hours between calcium and iron because the calcium will block the iron absorption because they bind to the same receptors.
  2. I have problems with Chicken, no matter how it's cooked. This has been a big change for me as we used to do a lot of chicken before. I avoid bread. Sometimes the sandwiches I fix for the kids school lunch look so good, but after being too tight for awhile and with the way some things feel tight going down, I know I would pay for it if I tried. I like apples too, but the skins are hard for me, so I peel those off. Sometimes eggs are ok, other times not so much....kind of strange!

I don't even know what to think...

He can not do anything without your consent. Before you sign the surgery consent form, make sure you read everything that is written on it. Not sure why he would seek approval for something that hadn't been discussed. I would clarify to put your mind at ease. Best Wishes!

    advise needed? ??

Like Tracie71 said, I had read here on the site before and it was a lifesaver, when stuck pretty bad, I take a few sips of a carbonated beverage and within a few seconds it all comes back up and usually relieves my discomfort. I then stick with liquids for the rest of the day. Things will be swollen for a bit. My longest stuck episode was about 6 hours, was ready to go to the ER, but knew my surgeon was out of town and it was a newer practice, didn't know if anyone would be able to help me. He has since assured me his surgical partner would be able to help. If you can't get it to pass, please call your doctor. Feel better soon.

    Still Mad?!?

Years ago when I did weight watchers for the first time, she brought in the visual of one pound equaling 4 sticks of butter. I frequently think of it that way when I am losing weight. So far I've lost over 200 sticks of fat. That's an awesome visual!

Anyone take Lisinopril for high BP?

I was started on lisinopril years ago and I also developed an annoying nonstop cough. When they switched me to something different, it went away. I also had a friend at work who developed a cough with it as well. I'd talk to your doctor about it. Hope you feel better soon!
  8. I'm not sure what kind of preop advice you are looking for....Take various body measurements before you get banded. So post band when you go through a period where the scale doesn't seem to move much and you get frustrated, you can look at your measurements and see that you are still losing inches. I take measurements at the beginning of each month. I see it in how my clothes fit as well, be we are such a number society, seeing how many inches down I am, helps when the scale seems stuck!

    IN MY SURGERY GOWN

Good Luck!! You are going to do great!
  10. Could be internal sutures as well as scar tissue. I know for the first few weeks I could feel the band (internally, not with my hands) when I took a deep breath. I asked the surgeon how close to the diaphragm it was and he said about 5 cm, once the swelling went down I could no longer feel it. I was concerned that I would always feel it in my chest. I was fascinated by my port once I had the nerve to feel for it a couple days out from surgery.

    How do you measure??

I have a food scale that I can zero with a plate or bowl on it and then add the food to see how much. When it comes to things like pizza, I don't eat the crust just the toppings. Right now I can't do things like sandwiches. I'm only 4 months in and don't trust myself to eyeball things!

5K Walk for Breast Cancer and Band Surgery

    Congratulations, so awesome!
  13. I agree with Bandista, make sure you occasionally do something for yourself! Take a bubble bath, read a book, crank up the radio and act silly. Sure the weight loss is for you, but you need to celebrate your successes too. It's so easy to get lost in the shuffle of the kids and work. I think it helps too, when others start commenting on how you look. You are doing great, hang in there, the excitement will come.
  14. I just finished up the couch to 5k program and running is a love/hate relationship! Sure I could come up with all kinds of excuses why not to do it, but I do enjoy it once I get going. It's a great accomplishment for me. After my runs, I come in and do hand weights, sit ups on an exercise ball, push ups, planks... all kinds of things that I learned from a boot camp class last year. Other days I do the elliptical or zumba on the wii. The key things is finding something that you enjoy to stay motivated. Going to the gym gets boring for me and I can't stick with it. It's all trial and error.
  15. I preferred to be home alone. My mom came and stayed with me the first night to help me with my kids. I was up and down quite a bit that first night that I felt I was disturbing her so I went downstairs to the couch. I couldn't drive until I was no longer taking the pain meds. Which was only a couple of days. If you are spending a night in the hospital, I am sure you will be fine at home. In my opinion, recovery is easier in your own surroundings!

    Couch to 5k

I can't speak for those over 300, but I will say that I have done the couch to 5k and loved it. I downloaded a free app on my IPod c25k and followed it. The nice thing about it is that it starts off slow and over a period of 8 weeks you gradually increase the amount of time running til you run more than you walk. I finished the program in August and still run for at least 30 minutes 3-5 days a week. I signed up for my first 5K the other day too! Running is a love/hate relationship for me, but the best part is seeing what I've accomplished! you can do it, you never know if you don't try!
  17. So glad you are doing better. Remember that you had a major surgery and your body is doing a lot of adjusting, not to mention diet changes at the same time! Anesthesia also affects you quite a bit. Each day should get a little better. I am also a nurse and went back to work a week after surgery and did ok. The hardest part is working on getting the liquids in! Good luck.

    Protein supplements

I like the New Whey protein shots that have 42 grams per 4 ounces. I put 2 ounces in about 20 ounces of water, tastes like a flavored water. They come in grape, watermelon and fruit punch. I've gotten them a Walmart. I have used unjury protein powder before which is pretty good. Right now I am using powermax from GNC. They have a policy that if you buy it and don't like it, you can return it. Preop is a great time to sample around and see what you like, but keep in mind, your tastes may change a bit post op as well or you get tired of a certain type. Good luck!

    My IBS has gone.....

I had some IBS symptoms as well, and in the 4 months since surgery have not experienced them either. I think it is due to the total change in eating habits. Eating a lot healthier! Glad to hear things are better!

    Caught a Glimpse

Congratulations!!!! That is so awesome. I totally agree with you, never thought I would enjoy running, some days I dread the thought, but when I go out and do it, it feels so good. I think some of the euphoria comes from knowing where I was before....getting winded going up the stairs. Great NSV!!

    NSV???

NSV are the best! My 16 year old son will come give me a bear hug and pick me up and tells me I'm so light. Another one was when I went shopping and I automatically went to the woman's department and the sales clerk told me I was in the wrong section!
  22. Sorry to hear you are have struggles. Hope all is ok!

    Bra Recommendations Please!

I've had problems finding a good fitting bra as well. I was measured and told what size, grabbed a bra that size and it was pretty sad, same problem extra skin falling out of the cups, so I've tried a few different sizes and gone shopping 5 different times and come out frustrated and in tears! They are too expensive to buy if they don't fit well. So I keep wearing my current bra which is about 4 band sizes too big or I may stick with my sports bras....good coverage and hides any excess skin! Bra shopping really makes me want to a breast lift!
  24. My nutritionist recommends 60-80 grams per day. I usually am between 60-70 most days.
  25. I've had issues as well, protein can be constipating! I take mirilax daily, one scoop in my morning protein shake, and this has helped tremendously. Started doing this the second week after surgery. I recently ran out and lets just say, I won't let that happen again!
