ok.. so, this may sound weird

I am so sorry for all the struggles you are dealing with. To be honest, it all just sucks!. Hopefully things will turn around for you soon. I pray that you don't get too discouraged at the beginning of your lapband journey due to all the changes and stress. I know the first week after surgery, I questioned my actions.... a lot. Now I do not regret or question it at all. With all the hormone changes from the recent hysterectomy and the meds and stress on your body from the upcoming surgery remember to take time for yourself. Hang in there, I wish you the best!

I had a hysterectomy 5 years ago and lap band this year. Still have my ovaries. I haven't noticed any difference. Good luck!

    help!

Is your port on the left side? During the surgery there is a lot of manipulation and things are swollen and will be tender for awhile. It should get better each day. Some people like a heating pad on their abdomen, I preferred ice. Each surgeon also has a different diet progression, so it's best to follow what yours outlined for you.
  4. instead of crushing can you just cut them in 1/2, 1/3 or 1/4 and swallow them? I can take mine just fine without crushing.

    question

I was diagnosed with vasovagal syncope last year, was banded this year. There are many causes for it. Dehydration can be a big factor which is what they think my problem was due to the blood pressure medication with diuretics in them. Some people experience it when they see blood or gory things. I passed out while teaching a class and started having more frequent dizzy spells. Finally went to my primary doc who referred me to the cardiologist who did a bunch of tests including a tilt table test where I passed out. Found out I dropped by blood pressure pretty significantly with it ( systolic, top number, in the 40's) and now I am on medications for it. I haven't had any problems since being banded this May, am off my blood pressure meds but my cardiologist plans to keep me on the med for my vasovagal syncope since my blood pressure dropped so low. I never thought about having issues with the band and the syncope, my cardiologist or bariatric surgeon didn't mention any concerns either. Good luck.
  6. I always looked for something with protein or added protein to it. oatmeal with some vanilla protein, scrambled eggs sometimes with salsa to change it up, refried beans with cheese and salsa, cottage cheese, ricotta cheese with some pizza sauce or spaghetti sauce. Deli turkey was on my list of soft foods...lots of that. I tended to stick with the same things as well, as I knew it worked for me. It's ok to get a little creative! good luck.

    Port Pain

You still have a lot of swelling right now as your body is healing, it will get better with time. I can feel mine and depending on what position I am in, it feels a little different.

Congratulations!! your hard work is paying off!!!
  9. I've heard a lot of people have had loose stools post op, especially while still on the liquid diet. For me, I am the opposite and have to take mirilax on a daily basis. Once you start eating "regular" foods again, you should even out.

6 weeks post-op. Who said this was easy?

I was just thinking today, as I was taking the stairs at work, how one might think I took the easy way out. I have thought that at times myself. But after looking at my lifestyle change over the last 6+ weeks, it hasn't even been close to easy. I have worked very hard to make the right food choices, measuring and journaling every bite of food that goes into my mouth, counting every gram of protein that I consume, getting in the amount of required liquids and making sure I exercise every day. It's definitely a learning process and I am working very hard at it!
  11. Take it one day at a time, it will get better with each day. Right now is a time recovery. They had me wait til I was on soft foods before they had me taking the vitamins. They may be hard to get down with the swelling.

    steri strips?

They told me to peel them off after a week as a lot of people will develop blisters under them. I didn't have problems with them, but I do react to bandaids.
  13. Absolutely, just let the preop nurse know. Even if it's not that time, stress will bring it on.

    Miserable!!

Hang in there, each day gets better and better and soon, (you're right) it will be a distant memory. I questioned my decision a lot that first week too. I tried stopping the pain meds within a couple of days after surgery and I was miserable. At that moment I realized why he prescribed the amount he did. The first week you just need to take it easy and heal. It will all come around and you will soon be feeling like yourself. I haven't regretted my decision since then!

    Pain Medication

If need tylenol, I can take a regular adult tylenol, one pill at a time without any problems. if you can't get it down that way, instead of chewing it, try cutting it in half. You can get a pill splitter, but I have used a knife as well. Just make sure it's a tablet and not a capsule.
  16. Ouch! Praying all goes well. good luck!
  17. I think this is pretty normal. Hope you feel better soon!
  18. Happens to me too...think it takes awhile for the scale to catch up!

    Weight lose stopped

I lost 10 pounds on the preop diet and then after surgery my weight loss stalled for quite awhile. This is usually due to your body healing. I got my first fill last week and my doctor told me I should now start seeing some weightloss. The main reason I felt I needed a fill because I was hungry about every two hours. Since getting a fill, I don't have that problem anymore. I wouldn't stress too much about it. It's the slow gradual weightloss that will be easier to maintain. I keep telling myself, I didn't gain it all overnight nor can I expect to lose it overnight (though it would be nice!)
  20. Congratulations! How exciting!

    Feeling grumpy

Patience is a hard thing! I think it also takes a few days for the all the kick butt exercise and following the "rules" to a "T" to show up on the scale and the fit of our clothes. The other day my exercise shorts were loose, and thank goodness for the drawstring, but today when I put them on it looked like a skirt. I know I didn't gain all the weight overnight, so I can't expect it to come off overnight. Hang in there it will catch up when you least expect it!

    NSV!

Congratulations! I think the NSV are the best and most encouraging. Keep up the great work!
  23. How about some sugar free popsicles, so you can chew something? Helped me.
  24. I don't want to be a slave to the scale, so I usually weigh once a week, trying to wear similar clothing each time. The first couple of weeks post op, my scale didn't budge much and it was too frustrating. So I also look at how my clothes fit. I think it sometimes takes awhile for the scale to catch up!
  25. Hope your bladder wakes up soon. I had the same trouble post op. Almost ended up in the ER to beg for them to cath me I was so miserable! Each day just gets better!
