beanie80 reacted to MandaMom23 in Helllloooooooooo ONEderland!!!
I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around it, but I'm officially in onederland!!! I never evereververever thought I'd EVER be a ONE hundred something pound person, again!! I had surgery February first. This was my one year goal...to be in onederland. The fact that I've met this goal about 6 months early is pretty amazing.
I was going to share pics, but I'm going to save that for my next big weightloss goal, 100lbs!! Only 7lbs away!

I'm in the same boat...I just got my band last Wednesday and know I need to recover from surgery before I get ideas of grandeur for working out. I'm looking forward to my 2-week post-op appointment to see if I get the OK from my surgeon to start hitting the pavement again.

beanie80 reacted to DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! in Officially in Bandster Hell. Help!
The way I got through it was spreading my calories out through the day. If I tried to eat 3 meals a day only, I'd have been horrifically cranky and hungry. It just wasn't happening. So, I had little meals/snacks every 2 hours. I also heavily focused on Protein.
For me, it worked. I was able to still stay within my 1000-1200 calorie daily allowance without being starving all the time. It also allowed me to continually lose weight even though I was in bandster hell.
    It sucks!! Hang in there!

I'm hoping you went to the doctor. I mean it sounds more like you should go the ER if you're "waiting" for an appointment. The situation you describe cannot and should not wait!

It has helped me to feel in control of me, and not feel like I'm being controlled by food. I have control of MY life now, and it gives me the confidence to know that I can do anything I want if I just put my mind to it.

At the end of the day, no matter WHAT is posted on this site, it's best to follow your doctor's instructions. Between all the doctors, there are so many varying protocols. Your doctor is who you paid and put your trust in. He/she is the one to guide you. If you want to drink on a regular basis, do it. If you find that you're not losing weight the way you'd like, stop drinking regularly & see what happens.
My doctor doesn't have an issue with a little bit of wine....or scotch...or, or, or.... As long as it's counted, and doesn't lead to loose eating. In my own experience, drinking while dieting slows the process. And I've had many a doctor resonate that same thing.
Though Dr. Simpson may be a pioneer, SO much of what he promotes goes against what many bariatric doctors tell their patients. I've seen all of his videos, and at one point thought "oh, well then my doctor is just being too cautious, and I can do this, that or the other thing". Then I came to my senses and decided to stick with the man I paid thousands of dollars to, for HIS expertise. Some of this stuff can be very confusing, especially for people who want to hear what they want to hear. IMHO - of course

My feeling is, only have a glass of wine once in awhile. Alcohol slows down weight loss, because our bodies don't recognize it as any kind of food source; it only stores it as fat. If you want to drink once or twice a week, be prepared that your weight loss may not go as quickly as you might like.
ALL that being said, I hadn't had anything to drink for close to three months before Memorial Day. Then I went to a BBQ, and drank close to (if not) an entire bottle of wine. It was SO good!! Haven't had any since, but I allowed myself that day. If the metabolic issues of alcohol were different, I'd be drinking a hell of a lot more often! When I get closer to my goal weight, I'll probably indulge a bit more. And I WILL count it. Only problem is, drinking also spikes my appetite, and brings down my defenses toward eating

beanie80 reacted to SageTracey in Port pain!! Help:( what could it be?
it doesn't sound normal to me. I didn't have port pain at three months' post-op and I haven't read of others experiencing gas pain at such a late stage.
I would be very happy to be proven wrong, but if you are experiencing pain then you need to contact your Dr sooner rather than later.

beanie80 reacted to gigglypug in Whats the longest any of you have heard of someone having the band without complication?
I remember being admitted to the hospital for my first baby. I had to sign a huuuuge informed consent form listing in gory detail all the things that could possibly go wrong for my baby or me during the birthing process....up to and including death. I was panicked, but obviously being a week past my due date, there was no other option than to go forward.
With WLS, we do have the option not to go through with it. And I certainly don't want to "talk anyone into" have a procedure, be it lap band, sleeve or anything else. But only because a lawyer put a condition on a list does not mean I have a statistically highly significant chance of developing it. With law suits being what they are, something only has to happen ONCE to SOMEONE (who could very well have other complications) to make it a "known side effect"...

I agree, you need to deal with your dislike of doctors and get into one right away. Especially since you already have some erosion, a family history of bleeds, take NSAIDS, and have the band. Drinking just added gasoline to the fire.
Black granular vomit is often a sign of old blood and nothing to mess with.
I don't mean this negatively nor am I trying to scare you- but you're seriously a ticking time bomb. If you don't take care of this immediately the consequences could be severe down the road.

I'm guessing that it's gas from surgery, but you should run it by your doctor.
The gas plays havoc, and it's the left side (shoulder) that's typically affected.

I planned on it lasting a lifetime, but I had heard that there wasn't much data on it lasting more than 15 years. I am so happy to hear you all have heard lifetime too!! I was just dreading having to replace mine in 15-20 years!!

I'm just curious how long you all have heard that your lap band will last. I have heard that 15 years is max, but I haven't seen any hard evidence. What have you all been told?

Tonights supper was chicken tenderloins in Tomato sauce w/ onions, celery, green peppers, mushrooms. Pureed! Of course the wife was able to have a mini baguette with her non pureed meal. I chose not to puree that.

Today marks my 6 month mark! It seems to have flown by. I've had my slower months but I am finally in my green zone. I have no regrets, this has truly given me a new outlook on life. My biggest challenges have been: learning to pace myself eating, don't let food control me & quit expecting to just wake up a size 8. My mind is having a hard time catching up with my new body. Funny how that works. At times, I'm a little saddened by the difference in the way people treat & look at me now versus the heavier me. It's truly sad that some people in this world will only notice smaller people:/ I am 14 pounds from my personal goal weight & can't wait to reach it!!!

Talk to your Gyno to figure out what's best for you. There's a lot more than weight gain when making birth control decisions. For instance, if you're a smoker over 35 then any hormonal birth control is a risk.
I can tell you from my own experience: My Gyno said absolutely no Depo-Provera. She said it is notorious for rapid and severe weight gain.

beanie80 got a reaction from pastor o in Pureed diet question
I'm almost 3 weeks out of banding and am in the pureed diet phase. I was looking over my list of things that I can eat but have a question for you all. In the pureed diet phase can I eat anything as long as it is pureed? for example, my sister made a great Pasta sauce/chili full of Beans, tomatoes and garlic. I took maybe 1/4 a cup of pasta (just to firm up the pureed sauce) and half a cup of the chili/sauce and put it in my magic bullet, pureed it and ate it. I was thinking about it later and I got worried that maybe I somehow cheated. My list of pureed foods says oatmeal, scrambled eggs, cottage cheese, pureed soft fruit and some other soft things like that. Do you guys think that pureed diet means anything (healthy) that is pureed?
