    Surgery was on May 1st!

My dr had me moving and walking immediately and I have to say I never experienced the gas pain or any pain that liquid tylenol didnt cure, actually went to work the next day, not that i had the dr permission. However I did experience it with a c-section. You can develop 2 different type of gas issues after abdominal surgery. One is intestinal gas the other is gas in the abdominal cavity. The gas in the abdominal cavity is what I had after the c-section that will travel from your chest right up into your shoulder. I thought I was having a heart attack at first. Check out this site I found for you it explains it in more detail. http://tahoedoc.hubpages.com/hub/Getting-Gas-Pain-Relief-after-Surgery Hope it helps

    Need to vent!

Definitely not alone. This might sound a little corny, maybe a lot corny, but when I first had mine done I would go to support groups and one of the women there use to always say "nothing taste as good as skinny feels". After 7 years I still have to remind myself of this occasionally.

    First fill question

I have had my band for 7 yrs. My Dr actually decided to go with larger band for my, I don't recall his reasoning, but he gave me first fill during surgery. Of course I am not trying to give you medical advice, but you should definitely discuss the option of getting a fill at your visit. Are you familar with the zones? You want to be in the green zone and from what you describe you are in the red zone. Don't be discouraged, yes it is a tool, but it is a tool that really works if you keep up with your maintenance to stay in the green.

    dr diet restrictions

Hi everyone. My Dr. Has a very strick diet that he expects us to follow' not that I always do. He does not allow any soup, oatmeal, milk or juice in any phase. I assumed that this was the norm but I know when I search for recipes for lap band I do see soups, I am curious as to what other Dr. Are advising. I cannot drink and eat at the same time which was probably one of the most difficult adjustments for me in the beginning. So since the soup is liquid with solid, I have a VERY difficult time with it and I assumed that was why my Dr. Advised against it. This is what my Dr. Recommends for the different phases and when ever you get a fill you have to start with clear liquids for the 1st 24 hrs and then move onto phase one for 2 days, phase 2 for 2 days, phase 3. Phase 1= 3shakes a day and liquids, phase 2= shakes for 2 out of 3 meals one meal should be pureed/soft. Phase 3= shakes for 2 out of 3 meals one meal of regular consistency. The only carbs you should costume should be in the form of vegetables and fruit, all protein should be lean, no red meat. Shakes also need to meet a criteria 110 max calories, 15-25 grams of protein,4 grams max of carbs, 3 grams max fat. Like I said I don't always stick to it but it is easy to stick to if I am in the green zone. Does this sound familiar to anyone else?
  6. Novena did you discuss a small fill? I am entering year 7 and when I lose my discipline abilities a small it is usually because I am o longer in the green zone. I have gone in and gotten just a 1/4 of a cc and it has brought me right into the green. They should be able to check it under fluoro and see how fast the barium goes through. Don't give up!
  7. Hi everyone. I had a band put in 7 years ago this June. I was told that they decided to go with the large band, don't recall why that was. I LOVE my band. I went in at 5'4" weighing 210 pounds. With in about 2 1/2 years I was at 135. I went for my regular visits and my surgeon has you stick to a VERY strict diet. I definitely would have lost the weight faster, but I had a nurse practitioner who insisted that I did not need a fill over a long period of time. I kept going back and was not losing anything. After she said "I absolutely refuse to give you a fill", I refused to see her anymore I made my next appointment with the surgeon and after hearing my symptoms he said " sounds like you need a fill". Almost immediately I knew I was in the "green zone". The weight started melting off again. I did make the mistake of not going back for a very long time because I felt so good, and eventually I came out of the green and I did put some weight back on. But I am getting fills again and feel that I am almost in the " green" again. If you are questioning if you are in the green discuss it with your Dr and get small fills, you will know when you are there. I remember saying, " oh, this is what the green zone feels like". If you feel the person you are seeing is not listening ask to see someone else. good luck everyone!

    almost 7 years

Yes I agree it is a life long commitment. I find that although your goal is to keep the weight off , if you do gain some back you have to forgive yourself and keep on going. When people are deciding which surgery would be best for them I always tell them that I think it is important to go into this acknowledging the band as a tool not a miracle band. For me one of the reasons I failed with diets was because I just could not reach the feeling of being full and satisfied with any diet I tried and believe me I tried them all. With the band, as long as I am in the green the band works before my mind and as a "tool" this works the opposite of any other weight loss I tried were I had to get my head there first in order to control my stomach. In other words as long as I am in the green zone I can control my behavior. I believe that is the magic of the band it helps us keep our motivation. I hope this makes sense!
