Just checking in...june 10 surgery
stept04 replied to big tex's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good job on the 50 pounds. I had my surgery on the 28th of may then had my first fill 3 weeks later, I've lost a total of 17 pounds so far. Your doing great. ~~~Stephanie -
I had a question. I have had one fill, I have been able to eat anything. But I have noticed that my first bite of dense food for the day I'm always getting stuck on. After I get stuck once then everything else goes down fine. It took me awhile to figure this out, because I kept switching to just liquids after. Is it possible to get stuck on green Beans one day but not the next. Does anybody know why I would be getting stuck on my first bite of a meal? It has to be dense food though mushies go down fine. And this is just not in the morning. Would I not need another fill with this going on. I don't stay full for 4 hours on a cup of food. Thanks for your help ~~~Stephanie

That's crazy, I can't believe they are offering such awful choices. I hope stuff like this starts to change now that obesity is being classified as a disease. ~~~Stephanie -

I'm so happy for you. Congratulations ~~~Stephanie -
Same as cassandramontes. I was able to have any clear liquids right out of the hospital. Did your Dr. give you a diet guideline? Usually they do. Maybe you could call your doc to make sure so many doc's are different. ~~~Stephanie

It took me about a week before I felt somewhat normal, I was never in excruciating pain, I only used the pain meds for the first few days, after that I was just uncomfortable, but the port pain did act up from time to time and it did hurt bad sometimes the port pain lasted about 3 weeks. I could have probably done a job like yours by day 5 or 6. I would suggest taking it easy what ever you do. ~~~Stephanie

Diarrhea hit me on day 3, but it stopped after that and then I got constipated I guess form the pain meds. I'm 4 weeks out and doing great and you will too just give it some time. ~~~Stephanie

How do you take you medications
stept04 replied to GToukas62's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You can sometimes use milk instead of food with your meds, but I'd check with the dr. or pharmacist. ~~~Stephanie -
How do you take you medications
stept04 replied to GToukas62's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I made sure I could cut up all my pills before surgery then I also bought liquid and chewable Vitamins. I can take all my pills whole since my surgery. I still use the liquid and chewable vitamins because they usually come big, but also because I already bought them. ~~~Stephanie -
OMG, THERE ARE CHEMICALS IN OUR FOOD, WE ARE ALL GOING TO DIE!!!

But I haven't picked out my tomb stone...oh no what shall I do? ~~~Stephanie -
About 10 days after surgery we went over to a friends house over night and did some running around, in and out of the car, walking around, up and down some stairs. I felt good but still had to take it easy. It was only for about half the day, but it still made me tired and sore. So depending on the activity's I would just take it easy and don't be surprised if you get more tired and sore than expected. But the food could be an issue, I was able to take my own stuff, but we we're there over night too. ~~~Stephanie

I'm so sorry your having issues. I had a hernia repair the same time I had surgery for my band. I only had mild acid reflux before the surgery and have not had a problem with it since the surgery. They did prescribe acid reflux medication along with the anti-neusea meds (which they did for everyone) to get filled before the surgery so I could use it after the surgery if I had a problem. They acted as if it could be a problem after the surgery but not for a long time after. Your Dr,. would now best for you though. Good luck ~~~Stephanie

Right after surgery I had a lot of problems when I would try and take a deep breath it hurt in my chest and my shoulder even the back of my neck at times, I think it was gas. When I left the hospital they sent me home with some type of machine to practice breathing deeper. It is important to breath deep to help open your lung and keep you from getting pneumonia. At least that is what I was told. The heating pad was my best friend. ~~~Stephanie

I think the only problem with caffeine is the possibility of getting dehydrated. Because dehydration is a concern with the band. I don't know why that is maybe someone else can answer that one. I just dink one cup in the morning to wake me up and it is regular. I have not had a problem but I'm also only a week out of surgery. I could be wrong about the dehydration thing it would not be the first time. ~~~Stephanie

Practical question - bending down after surgery
stept04 replied to heather316's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just had surgery 4 weeks ago, and my instructions that went home with me said no lifting anything over 10 pounds or bending or stooping for 6 weeks. I now have found myself in situations that I have had to bend over but I try not to. I still have avoided picking anything up over 10 pounds. I have help though. I guessed the bending had to do with the port, it is stitched in and bending over could pull on the stitches, and possibly pull out a stitch. Good luck. They should give you instructions when you leave the hospital I would guess. ~~~Stephanie -
As far as your menstrual cycle you won't have to reschedule. Just let the nurses now and they'll take care of you. You can not wear a tampon.. My hospital gave me some special undergarments. The pre-op diet is mainly for shrinking the liver, so maybe your doctor does not feel that will be a problem.. As winkie80 stated all doctors are different in there requirements Good luck. ~~~Stephanie.

Just wanted to say love NC. I was born in Jacksonville and I have family in Sneadsferry NC. Haven't been back in awhile We we're military so we moved a lot and eventually after retirement got stuck here in TX for the jobs. My husbands in aviation, it's big here. Enjoy it for me. ~~~Stephanie

Texas, but I'm probably bias. They do have the lowest unemployment rate in the states. Traffic is a nightmare, but I'm in north Fort Worth. I don't know what it is like near the beaches. Summer's are hot, but we have had some mild winters lately. Has some of the best medical too. I guess you would be needing a bariactric doc? ~~~Stephanie
