3 weeks post op...
stept04 replied to ChloeHouston's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Everyone is different. For me I was banded May 28th, and I have lost 18 pounds so far that is with pre and post-op. It is possible for you to lose what you want to, people have, but it is also possible to follow all the rules and not lose it. You'll just have to see how your body reacts to your new situation. Good luck ~~~Stephanie -
Survey: How many cc's did you get in your first fill?
stept04 replied to beanie80's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I don't know how much I had per fill, but I've only had 2 and I am at 5.3. I don't know if that can help you, but if it can cool. ~~~Stephanie -
I'm 47 and have over 100 pounds to lose. It is good to hear you have achieved that. I have been somewhat concerned about my age and how slow my metabolism might be because of my age. I have been worried I would not be able to achieve a 100 pound loss. So hearing that you have is promising. Do you think age has had anything to do with how fast or slow you lost? Did you think you had to exercise more than a younger person might of had to? Or did you have to eat fewer calories for your age compared to someone say around 25 or 30? Sorry for so many questions, just curious. Congratulations by the way. and Happy B-Day. ~~~Stephanie

Mine took 1 hour, and I had a small hernia repair too. ~~~Stephanie

Restriction definition
stept04 replied to Melllima's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
http://drsimpson.net/fills/Lap-band-eating/lap-band-not-restriction/lap-band-and-restriction.html Try reading this and see if it helps you understand restriction some, it helped me. ~~~Stephanie -
I don't know about your insurance, but a lot of insurances will pay if it is considered medically necessary by your doctor. All you should have to do to find out is to give your insurance a call and ask. Good luck ~~~Sephanie

I am 8 weeks out from surgery and I think the light bulb just went off. I've been waiting for something to happen as far as my appetite I've been expecting a big sensation of some sort so that I wouldn't eat as much and I would lose weight. But I think it just hit me I think I just figured out what it is to be satisfied, which is a big thing because I was getting really discouraged even though it is still early, I wasn't fairing to well. Anyway I expected to fill full and not be able to eat even though I've read it a hundred times in here about being satisfied I still was not getting it, but now that I've had my second fill plus something hit me, I understand the sensation of being satisfied. I realized I still have to make the choice to not eat and I had not been doing that I was staying within my calorie range but it was hard because I still thought I was hungry in between, but now I've realized it was head hunger and that I was experiencing satiety, but it wasn't registering because I was not recognizing it. Once I started recognizing it it has been easier to not listen to the head hunger. I did not realize that eating would still be a choice and the band would just make it easier by making me feel satisfied. I know I've read it in here but it just hit me. Sorry I don't think I made much sense, but I had to get it out of my head. I don't know yet if I'm in my green zone yet, but I do now know what satiety feels like and what head hunger is, thank god and everyone in here because it was a post that I was reading when it hit me. Do you think I got it ~~~Stephanie

Help! Has Anyone Had Bad Breath From Protein Shakes?
stept04 replied to ADDrienne's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
High Protein levels in the body cause the body to go into ketosis which is just fat burning. I do believe it causes bad breath so that could be the problem I don't know for sure though just a thought you could look into it. ~~~Stephanie -
I guess I should give you he name of the book uh . Choose To Lose The 7-Day Carb Cycle Solution by Chris Powell. Sorry ~~~Stephanie
-
They say changing up you exercise routine helps, you could try that. Or excluding carbs for awhile.. There is something that is called carb cycleling you could look into I know mis73 uses it when she hits a plateau. It is a book you can order off line if you want to look into it. I got mine off amazon I have not used it yet being as how I'm just getting started with all this, I am still in bandster hell still waiting for the right fill. Good luck ~~~Stephanie

mrsinto, I am having the same problem I'd like to hear what others have to say. ~~~Stephanie

Mine still hurts and it has been 8 weeks. It is a sharp pain if I bend a certain way sometimes, not real bad though. ~~~Stephanie

I keep sugar-free Popsicle around for when I get head hunger and just need something to help it go away. I may eat 2 or 3, but it seems to work. Another thing is sugar-free Jello I don't like it as much but if I'm desperate. I'm thinking of checking in to sugar-free cool whip to see how many calories it has. If it is not to many I could add it to my jello. Good luck. ~~~Stephanie

I get anesthetized for my fills. When I get anesthetized it is barely a prick, so I'm glad they do it I'm assuming it would hurt worse if they did not and I don't want to find out. I just had my second fill and all went ok, don't know about the restriction yet. ~~~Stephanie

Realize vs. Allergen
stept04 replied to Mellzbellz21's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have the Realize band, 10 cc. I have 5.3 cc in my band, and I do get stuck if I am not careful how I eat. I just got my second fill so I don't know how much restriction I am going to have this time, after I get off liquids today I'll find out though. ~~~Stephanie -
When did you start putting Mederma on your incisions?
stept04 replied to rbmk14's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My Doc told me not to put anything on the scars for 6 weeks. So I would agree with prettythick1 . ~~~Stephanie -
I had Dr. Scott Stowers with Bariactric Solutions he was really good. He has an office in Dallas, they also have a bus that goes around to different places to do fills they are good at what they do they use a fluoroscope to do all their fills. I think cash pay is 150.00 for a fill. I don't pay anything with my insurance. ~~~Stephanie

. Looking good, very attractive, job well done, you go girl ~~~Stephanie

First fill complete.
stept04 replied to BigOBoy123's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thought I'd share just in case. I got my first fill and at first I guess because of the type of food I was eating I had no trouble with eating I thought I had no restriction, but for some reason a week or so later I got a little stuck on chicken and then it just kept getting worse I kept getting stuck worse on stuff. I don't know why it happened except to say maybe I had not developed good eating habits as far as small bites and chewing well. Getting stuck sucks so I just wanted to warn you depending on what and how you eat you could have some restriction as compared to having nothing so be careful when your eating, it could surprise you at anytime just don't want you to get stuck if you don't have to. Good luck ~~~Stephanie -
I think not putting my fork down and waiting has lead to all my stuck episodes. I have heard you can set a timer for 1 min. That is what a I need to start doing. I keep getting stuck and I am going in for my second fill today. It is only going to get worse for me if I don't start pausing between bites. ~~~Stephanie

Me and my husband both have this problem and we eat sugar-free Popsicle like their going out of style. That and sugar-free Jello is about the only thing I've found that I can eat on that doesn't have a whole bunch of calories. ~~~Stephanie

Hi just wanted to introduce myself to a fellow Texan. I live in Haslet, very close to Denton but not to Plano . Can't say I know of any support groups anywhere for that matter. Would love to find one somewhere, even if I had to drive a little. I am going to follow this post to see who post what. Good luck ~~~Stephanie
