    Nothing Works Anymore

have you hear go Keto? https://www.reddit.com/r/keto/
  2. i been running for about 2 years now, i still despise the idea of actually running. but then i go to these events, under the encouragement of friends, i would realize that once i start, it becomes motivating, exciting and makes me feel accomplished. and its with this mentality, i've done 3 super spartans, 2 half marathons and a number of 5 and 10k,. There have been exactly 0 times where i didn't whine and bitch from the moment i sign up to about 1mi into each race, but i have never ever regretted it after crossing the finish line. one foot in front of the other friend! you will love yourself for it.
  3. i will be going for the avengers again this year. so much fun, hit a wall around mile 9,
  4. 1600 calorie is semi starvation? since banded i eat 800-1200 for years now. i don't want to slip into depression or psychosis like the article suggests. difference is i eat mostly protein and fats, not so much starch...conclusion? potatoes drive people crazy..
  5. i bought the vanilla low carb one. i don't love it. But these days, i add 1 tbs of peanut butter, some ice, and almond milk and a pack of splenda just so i can finish the bag and move on.

    "lump in throat" feeling...

I have had similar experience after my band was tightened, and the symptoms went away after it was loosened by just a quarter of cc. When my band was too tight, i would eat something too fast or something that would typically cause acid re-flux and get that "lump in the throat" feeling. Taking anti acid helped during that time.
  7. mmm peanut butter in things: 1tbls in plain oatmeal mixed together or 1tbls in plain greek yogurt makes. i prefer the latter, more protein
  8. Being chinese, this is my comfort/goto food since i was kid...how perfect for post soft foods http://www.chinasichuanfood.com/chinese-steamed-egg/

To carb or not to carb

I don't eat grains, whole or refined. Not that i think i will gain weight from the carbs in them, i don't eat them because they are hight on the GI index and low when it comes to nutrient valley. We are restricted to the amount that we eat, so i would rather fill up on more nutritious foods. As far as carbs go, my sources of carbs are from vegetables and if i'm craving sweets, i eat a fruit instead of something loaded with refined sugar. Did you mean carbs like that?
  10. Hello fellow banders! I just came back from a week long journey in Hawaii and couldn't wait to share with you guys some of experiences and photos. I had planned a trip to Hawaii for the purpose of a wedding since February, but I decided to extend my stay to 1 whole week to explore the island. The trip was supposed to be minimal with no specific agenda, aside from the wedding and a Spartan Race. My original intention was to do the Hawaii Spartan Sprint (5K), but at my companion's suggestion, we upgraded to the Spartan Super (8K!!) instead for a greater challenge. My adventure in a nutshell: food - although i did not make the best of food choices but i didn't feel guilty what so ever. of course i had to try all the local specialties including Masubi (love spam), Malasadas (these little fried donuts), Locomoco (omg loved this). Dolewhip at the world's largest hedge maze pineapple plantation. and the Hawaiian shaved ice is definitely superior in Hawaii! As you can see, not the healthiest of foods, I paid with bloating and sleepless nights but hey! how often do i get to go to Hawaii (not very) Walking: My companion and I decided that our trip would be restricted to local attractions so we opted out on the car rental. We walked everywhere. To the zoo were i hand fed a platoon of peacocks, aquarium, eateries etc. Snorkeling: first time ever, I was 3 inches away from a giant turtle! i started back pedaling so he won't ram me...life changing experience. Hiking: hiked to the top of Diamond Head. THE RUN: ok now for the culmination of the trip, the Spartan 8K race. on the day of the race, we found out it was a 1.5mi hike from the parking lot to the starting zone, which turned out to be a nice little warm up. It took about 30min for us to sign in and get ourselves mentally prepped for the upcoming challenge and then off we went like a herd of buffalos. About a mile in, i realized this wasn't like any other 5Ks i have ever done. The entire trail was covered in mud, grass, rocks and sweat and tears of my predecessors. Most of the trail was uphill! I don’t even know if that’s possible according to the laws of physics….. Months of training while running flat trails did me little to no good in this land forgotten by modern technology! Driven by the encouragement of our Spartan brothers and sisters, replenished by the fresh guavas from nearby trees, by no minor miracle, 3hrs later, i somehow managed to cross the finish line with minor bruising and scratches, yay! We were all given our medals and our victory banana. I knew bananas can taste so glorious until that moment. The race was definitely the highlight of my trip. The 1.5mile walk back to the car after the race however, was a death march.... what made the exhaustion even worse was seeing tourists on the trail riding their ATVs or busses, "can i buy a ride pleaaaaase?!!" Blinded by my elation for completing the race, i hastily signed myself up for the Spartan Beast (12K) in a few months. And of course after the adrenalin died down, i questioned my sanity for making such a monumental decision. Long post, but in short: Hawaii is awesome. Food is delicious. Can’t beat the scenery, lost 4 lbs

  14. Oh my gosh, i thought i was the only or amongst the very few people that did this type of tasting of foods. Luckily taste buds for sweet and salty are located near the tip of the tongue, 9 out of 10 times i feel my cravings subside. although swallowing good tasting food is a great sensation.
  15. i have yet to be able to boil eggs to an edible state in less than 5 minutes...woe is me

    Progress so far

if you dont mind me asking, which cleanse did you partake on?
  17. and there i was bargaining with myself to have a piece of office cake just now, and make today my cheat day of the week. Forgetting that, I've already had a cheat item on monday....such great reminder.
  18. usually i have a shake for breakfast, instead of something solid like an egg, and that gives me 30g. Few of slices of cheese isn't ideal for protein, so maybe replace that with some tuna or more deli meat.

    Fear of OFF DAYS

i also developed some interesting characteristics since making working out a routine. In addition to having the same fear as you do, i feel like i dont deserve a rewarding shower unless i'm drenched in sweat...go figure

    Help

i've been making breakfast cupcakes for a protein filled breakfast that will keep for at least a week! here's an example of what they look like: http://carlahanaco.wordpress.com/2013/02/23/breakfast-cupcakes/ I don't use any flour or batter, just simply egg, bacon, veggies and spices. They come out perfectly portioned. i would make a tray and keep them in a freezer bag. When breakfast time comes, just stick it in the microwave for 20seconds, yummers.
  21. I made it to day 49 of Insanity, and finally got bored. No, not because the exercise gotten easier, on the contrary it was challenging as heck, but i got so bored of shaun T and his monotonous music and huffings and puffings. I'm more motivated doing workouts with energetic music and not so repetitive motions. I have yet to try P90X so its on my list. As far as MMA goes, i been trying Les Mills Combat recently and loved it! and i also tried T25 recently, it's challenging for something so short.

    Camping Food

Happy thursday all. This weekend i'm going into the wilderness for a 3 day camping trip. Being the city girl that i am, I'm terrified to say the least. on top of being banded, i was rudely made aware of the following facts: no running Water, a medieval contraption called the chemical toilet, no hair dryer, no stove (i assume we will be rubbing 2 sticks together), no wi-fi...Just to name a few!! Aside from the whining, it boils down to the question, what will a banded girl eat!?! Being the novice camper that i am, i bought hot dogs, Protein shakes thinking i'll live off of that. then i was told that hotdogs even sans buns might be tough to swallow for a bander. Last thing i want to happen is getting stuck and slimming over my friends medium toasted smores while they are holding hands singing Kumbayah. Any suggestions?

    Camping Food

wow i'm overwhelmed with all the awesome suggestions, there goes my excuse to eat 15 smores this weekend. unfortunately there will not be refrigeration, and since we will be in the dessert, it will be 90 during the day, and 40 at night. shopping list for tonight: boiled eggs, bags of tuna, some canned soup and beef jerky (hope that one goes down). If all fails, i will return on Monday and report 12 ways on how to eat a cactus.

    Frustration Station!

the traditional hot yoga doesn't burn as many calories as you think, you think you are burning lots b/c you are sweating so much but that's just not true. If you are relying on vinyasa flow type of yoga as your only method of exercising, i think there are better ways. to name a few: zumba, kickboxing, circuits, jogging, swimming, biking etc.. to burn calorie you have to exhaust your muscles.
