The very minimum is caused because of genetics. Most if us have a horrible relationship with food and that's y we are obese. That's is why we the ones suffering because of this horrible and real addiction to food, we must do everything in our power to prevent this from happening to future generations.

I sincerely hope that future generations never go through WLS. That we as a nation start cultivating a healthy relationship between our children grandchildren and food right from birth. We must make a better future for the generations to come. I pray and wish God gives me the knowledge to pass this message along to the new parents of this nation.

balbuquerque reacted to Megan0318 in Whats the longest any of you have heard of someone having the band without complication?
I have had the band for ten years and have had complications. The band is not designed for longer than ten years...google research studies that have been done that are NOT paid for by the band manufactuer. I highly recommend getting the sleeve and not the band. I am in the (long) process of appealing insurance so I can revise from band to sleeve. Do not buy what other say about "having to make lifelong changes..." etc. The band does not work long term no matter what changes you make. One study I found said that all the bands placed in a hospital in 2000 have all been removed. DO NOT GET A BAND.

balbuquerque got a reaction from lilmispcl in losing sympathy and offering an apology
Gowalking. Your apology has actually made me feel that it's ok to post concerns again. I understand your point of view but I also understand that we live in a society that promotes sabotage and literally try to push u under the bus. I have counted upto six offerings of foods people trying to feed me @ work. They say things like "oh but just one slice of cake won't hurt." I've come home and told my husband about it. AA tells their members to avoid alcoholics, parolees are prohibited from associating with other parolees. But a food addict has no escaping food environments. It's a hard situation. My coworkers will come and offer me all this poison and then say after I refuse it "oh that's right you can't eat this. " I have said a dozen times In the past month. "I can eat whatever I want, however I didn't go under a knife to eat your cake." We have to be compassionate so sometimes. Good luck to all of us.

Today I took the kids to Busch Gardens (here in Tampa) as they are kicking off their summer vacation. I have not been here in about a year. The last time I was here, I no longer could fit in a rollercoaster and was mortified, appalled, and embarrassed. So were my children. This was my rock bottom! TODAY...I not only fit in the coasters....I had plenty of room to spare! We spent all day walking the park with very little effort or exhaustion. I hardly thought about food all day. I never had any anxiety about my knees hurting, my back aching, or my feet swelling up. I was having the time of my life! Last year, all I wanted to do was lose enough weight to fit in a rollercoaster...that's it...a simple request. If I go by this measure of success...I am there! I am a success story!! I still want to lose more weight....and I will set small goals along the way. But today...I am here....I am successful...and my kids think I am a rock star!!

The rapid weight loss is due to the band, regardless of how u look at it. Traci is telling her story very eloquently and for that reason is appreciated. Some members of this forum either work for the band companies or they stay confused. I wish you all the best.

balbuquerque got a reaction from JACKIEO85 in New to this site and disappointed
Wow incredible the lack of compassion on here. I'm two months 12 days post op and I haven't felt myself once since, but its taboo to share such experiences. The excruciating pain finally went away but the constant other pains haven't but its scary to share. What I am certain about though is that regardless of anyone's claimed happiness with any WLS it's not anything to be happy about. It's unnatural and preventable. All these young kids doing this surgery should be considered a crime. All these parents allowing their five year olds having adult size meals should be fined or something. And I'm glad that Maui hasn't let anyone intimidate her into silence. Right now my stomach feels so weird that I gave my husband my surgeons cell number And some pertinent information, in the event something happens to me. I don't understand y all the self righteousness, when we all know that WLS is not ideal for anyone to have, and maybe just maybe the problem is in the delivery, but maybe not.

At the end of the day, we have to live with our OWN choices and decisions. As my mother always used to tell me, when you eat poorly, you aren't fooling anyone but yourself. If I (or anyone else) stops losing weight because of poor choices, then it's our issue to deal with. My friend's sister recently told me that someone she works with has the band. She said that the woman lost a bunch of weight, but has gained a lot back. She also said that the woman told her that she's not doing anything wrong....or different. My response was.......YES she is! The band isn't failing her; she is failing the band. Weight doesn't mysteriously start reappearing, when eating controlled band size portions & counting calories. I guess some people will continue to live in denial, until they are truly ready to take another path......band or no band.

Omfgmelly this is the best mind set ever. To have the mindset of breaking this vicious cycle. To make sure this doesn't happen to future generations, it's the best thing that can happen. With that kind of thinking we can get back on track. Our children shouldn't have to experience this unhealthy life style. I did it to children, but I'm going to make sure it doesn't happen to their children. You are on the right path that is great.

Your dad isn't an ass, he's scared of losing the old you, his food buddy. Tell him that you are inside that obese body, unhappy with your physical self, but you'll always be his loving daughter. Forgive him for being insensitive. It takes time.
George Takei posted this on Facebook recently: You don't have a soul. You are a Soul. You have a body.
Your soul loves your father, that's not changing.
