  1. I had my first "non plus size store NSV" at the J Jill store (which is 125 miles from my house), since then, I have just been in love with the store, the clothes, the fact that they FIT my slimmer me, etc....... But now--and this is the exciting part-- I live in a TINY northwoods Wisconsin town. No where to shop for clothes except Walmart, Kmart and Shopko which gets a little (alot) old after a while. NOw some cute hip chick has opened a fab boutique right here in our town! I went today "just to look". I found a pair of pants I thought might work. She put them in the dressing room. I am still too big to fit into the gorgeous sweaters and most of the tops she had..... Tried on the pants. Nice, but something not right. Came out and asked her (very skinny, blonde and CHIC) what she thought. She said "they are too big". I almost fell over. Too big? Never experienced too big. She brought me a regular size 14. They fit like they were made for me. I almost cried I was so happy. NO more JJill. shopping locally. bought two pair of those size 14 pants, and a new top that is an XL, but I can live with that (I guess I have to, since I have boobs!). Just wanted to share with people who KNOW what it feels like. Happy day for me today.
  2. I usually have pretty good fashion sense, but I am stumped as to what I should wear to an upcoming work conference in early May. It's being held at the Kalahari Water park and resort, so I am thinking a bathing suit is going to be necessary at some point (major trauma picking one out under "normal circumstances". The location of the conf. suggests to me that business casual would be appropriate. My shape is Apple-ish, with slim legs and unfortunately a belly. I wear about a size 14-16. I want to look comfortable and professional and prefer not to wear the expected khakis and comfy shoes--I am looking for stylish. And for all you fellow apple shaped gals--what bathing suit do you feel is most flattering without being tooooooo matronly. I don't want to sex it up, since it's work, but I don't want to look like someone's gramma, either! Thanks for any help/advice. Kimber-lilly:smile:

Clothing and Bathing Suit advice, please!

thank you both for your quick replies! That is a very nice bathing suit website. I like a few of them and think they might work. clothing wise, I think I am going to take your advice and look for a sharp A-line dress and some great shoes and accessories. I am very happy working for this company and I want to look FAB, so I can get on the radar of the higher ups and maybe get a promotion!

New Grandson - From an old Lapbander

Hi Penni! I pop in here every once in a while--good to see some "old" banders! Your new baby is adorable--I could just smooch the computer screen. Stay well! Kimberly

    Bad backs

I am a nurse and worked for 6 years at a pain center, where they did the steriod injections among other procedures. Other posters have given you an idea of what to expect in terms of the actual procedure, and I want to assure you that these are safe, and a good, conservative measure to undergo before you consider surgery. Not everyone gets relief from the injections, but the beauty of the injection is that it doesn't change the pathology of your back if it doesn't work (like surgery would). And if you do have good pain relief from the injections, well, WAAALAH! no surgery, and the risks associated with it!

    Nursing school question

I took physical assessment last year and we "partnered up" and did assessments on each other--we were dressed, but no shoes or jacket/sweaters..... I don't think I would have been comfortable with the hospital gown.....

Really stupid things people have shared with you

My extended family has gathered in and amongst three family owned lake front homes for the past 100 years. One branch of the family is, well, stinkin rich...and have done amazing things--one of my cousins travelled thru europe for a long time, studied art in Italy--lived in NYC (and still does) and is VERY VERY sophisticated......a tiny bit intimidating when we have to chat about what we've been doing with ourselves---she just seems soooo glam. Well, I was in nursing school, so early 80's and whatsherface had just returned from Italy and blah blah blah, fake accent and alll, I was ready to puke...... a friend from the lake was asking her all about her trip.....some how they got to talking about where the lady was from and the topic of conversation turned to Vermont.......She asked whatsherface if she had ever been to Vermont. Whatsherface replied, 'No, I have never been out west.' I nearly died. I choked on my drink, had to get up, nearly peed half running back to our house. My mother, always the essence of decorum, laughing, spewing peeing right behind me! Still cracks me up after all these years......

What to do with too big clothes?

Donate them to a local charity, sell them on ebay, throw them away-- I couldn't wait to get rid of my clothes! My mind set was "I am never going to wear this size again, EVER!"
  9. Last year, I made my DS's clown costume....this year he wants to be a priate---- Argh! Me Hardees!

Lookie! I love Halloween and we are ready!

Thanks! This is definately from the Pirates of the Carribbean movie--we saw it with him this summer and he is hooked--I bought that hat on ebay this summer for his birthday and he wore it everywhere--including the pool! Quite a sight--bathing suit and a pirate hat!!! I bought all the stuff for this at my local Walmart--the jacket and boots are from the girls' department, the black sweatpants are from the boys' dept, the red belt and head scarf thingy is 1/2 yard of "christmas fabric", ripped almost in half! I got that belt thing he wears across his chest from the ladies department on sale! The whole thing, including the hat set me back about 55 bucks, which is what I would have spent if I had purchased stuff online specifically for a pirate costume.......

Lookie! I love Halloween and we are ready!

When I was shopping for this little ensemble yesterday, I saw TONS of Christmas craft stuff being stocked. Not ready for that yet. Halloween Yes, Christmas no. Not even ready for Thanksgiving! ARGH Me HARDEES!

    Labor Day Weekend

No, we didn't know about it--so it was a complete surprise. I knew they held him in high regard, because approx 30 years after his death, even the young guards knew exactly who he was when we told them who we were at the door. They were like, "come on in, make yourself at home...". Nice. Yes, my mom kept the note--I hope one day it will be mine (should be, since it's about me!).

    Labor Day Weekend

My dad was President Kennedy's Honor Guard...which means he was in charge of all the official engagements in Washington......including the funeral--they (family lore, I don't know who "they" are) said that the funeral for JFK might have been a major stress on my Dads heart....... When I was born, my mom received a cool hand written note from Jacqueline Kennedy on official White House stationary......super cool!

    Labor Day Weekend

Hi Paula! Thanks for the shout out!! I wondered if anyone noticed I was MIA! Carlene--Those are great photos! I have a link to the Old Guard--that is what they call those guys--it's some numbered battalion but I can't remember what the official name is. My dad (deceased in Dec 1963 and I was born in Jan 1964) was the Captain of those guys--we visited there in the late 80's and they totally gave us VIP treatment--toured the barracks underneath the tomb and there were photos of my dad on the wall (among others, of course, but he has a place of honor!)--it was so neat to see. He was a career officer and my mom said he would probably would have been a General if he had lived. He died of an undiagnosed heart ailment. On a lighter note, my mom married a super guy when I was ten, he adopted me and my older sister and is the only DAD ever in my life. PS--they give tours of the barracks--all you have to do is ask.... Back to your regularly scheduled program.......

    Labor Day Weekend

:welldoneclap: We didn't have any set plans, but here's what we did! Friday night, took DS to the county fair--rode the rides, ate some not band approved food (just a smidge), then saw the demolition derby--fun night! Saturday we tore the house apart--moved our bedroom from upstairs to downstairs in anticipation of my DH's knee surgery in November--our room is the former "toy room" and now all DS's toys are in the garage (it's temporary!). Sunday we went to my Mom's for brunch with out of town cousins and extended family. nice to see everyone, then we bugged outta there and went back to the fair for a few hours, so DS could hang with one of his best pals. I have had quite enough of the fair! Then home depot for new paint for the "new bedroom" which I started yesterday and finished today. It's a color called Pottery Red and is really pretty...I am happy with the result, and it doesn't look TOOOOO much like a bunch of wild monkeys did the painting! Earlier today DH and I moved DS's furniture into our old room upstairs and now I am in the process of creating a "den" in that old room. Just shuffling stuff around all day long and I decided today we have waaaaay too much stuff. I am all about downsizing this week! So, we didn't party, but we did Labor this weekend! PS while in Home Depot, I fell in love.......with a beautiful washer and dryer. They are RED. I never thought I would be so excited about an appliance! They are also MONDO expensive! Oh well, I can dream....... That is my weekend update!

Your Favorite Garage Sale Buy ~ What is it?

My most fun buy at a garage sale....a book I purchased for fifty cents> I came home, promptly threw it on the table, snapped a photo and listed it on ebay for $5.00. Would have been happy to get the five bucks for it. One week later it ended for $252.50. Seems it was a real collector's item! Woohoo! Otherwise, I pick up great classic looking clothes for my son and more junk to stuff in my overstuffed house!

    keloids (sp?)

Just the other day! I was at work and he was up to his ears in a chart, so I went over (I don't know him well, but well enough to interrupt his work!) and asked him about a terrible new scar on my leg. It was a totally innocuous bump on the leg and healed into this terrible purple scar! he told me what to do for it, then I asked him about my lap band scar--he recommended Silicone scar patches. The directions are on the box and he said you have to be religious about wearing them. A box lasts for 12 weeks and cost me $27.00 at walmart. I am giving it the old college try!

New Baby Bunny Pix! Three Weeks Old!

Just one pix--this is my son (of course!) and our biggest baby bunny, who we named Margaret, even tho I don't know if it's a girl or a boy. Oh well. The bunnies are adorable--I am totally smitten with them--I think we will keep Margaret--the others are already spoken for! (for pets, not to eat!) Here they are!

New Baby Bunny Pix! Three Weeks Old!

I read that, too and talked with someone who had an inside bunny. He said the bunny did go pee in the box, but still sometimes would leave little dingleberries all over the house. Ick. So, I don't know if you can train them 100% or not. I took the babies to my son's school and the kids were just ALL OVER them! Three are spoken for so far for sure---I am sure the kids who want them have moms who are ready to kill me!

New Baby Bunny Pix! Three Weeks Old!

Oh! That's great! I know we have had so much fun with these babies---I googles your neice's bunnies--they are beautiful! I think we just have regular, run of the mill bunnies here--but they are super fun and my son is learning so much about them and how to take care of them--good experience all around! and sooo darn cute!
  25. Hi All! This is the official sign up thread. Easter is April 16th, which is a Sunday, of course. I will close the sign up time on March 15th, so that will give everyone plenty of time to decide if you want to participate or not. You should plan to ship your "Spring has Sprung" gift by April 1 (easy to remember, April Fool's Day!) to ensure timely delivery. OK. Go. Kimberly-lilly is IN.
