    Gas pain

Yes it can be done, but not by pushing on your abdomen. 2 ways it can be done is to remove it through your Pulmonary system or intraperitoneal normal saline infusion..either of which I imagine is expensive. For most the gas pain resolves in days-week . FYI:Upper abdominal and shoulder pain after laparoscopic surgery is related to diaphragmatic irritation caused by retained carbon dioxide, which then causes referred pain to the shoulder via the phrenic nerve.

    Before lap-band surgery

I believe it's an insurance requirement for most..Some have to do the supervised diet even longer than 6 months, but that seems the average. Sometimes they can use prior weight loss attempts like W.W. hospital supervised diet programs, medical WL etc..because that is documented proof that you've tried and failed. Your probably meeting the surgeon so that he can answer any questions you might have prior to surgery. And it also takes time to have the tests that they usually require prior to having a LB. Some tests that are done include ( vary) are a stress test, endoscopy, Phys eval. Good Luck.

    protein shake sux's

I used the Isopure Protein water I loved it, and it was a nice change from the flavored protein powders not matter what flavor they were ICK. These come in Fruit Punch and grape. I found them at Meijer's but that is a Michigan based store but also ordered them on amazon. http://www.amazon.com/Isopure-Protein-Alpine-6-Count-Bottles/dp/B001M0NJOQ/ref=sr_1_1?s=hpc&srs=2594137011&ie=UTF8&qid=1373768312&sr=1-1&keywords=isopure

    Dumb ?

Sounds like that hard as a rock is spot is your port. usually it's attached to the muscles of the abdomen. What makes you think you've has a slip? dysphagia, vomiting, regurgitation and food intolerance are a sign of a slip. Have you experienced allot of vomiting? That can lead to a slip. but in most cases you'll need to have an upper gastrointestinal series to diagnosis a slip. If your concerned call your Surgeon.

    Breathing pain

Good idea about calling the PA ...I was always told that the pain or bee sting feeling as some describe it was the tubing that the doctor attaches to the rib cage on the left. it may continue to occur, but I was always told it's normal. hope this helps!

    Anyone been re-banded since July 07 ??

RRSullivan sometimes you don't know if a band is slipped the common symptoms are :dysphagia, vomiting, regurgitation and food intolerance. The diagnosis is made by upper gastrointestinal series.Hope this helps

    Anyone been re-banded since July 07 ??

I'd ask the doctor to check to see if your retaining the saline in your band, if he does a flush and fill that will tell him if the same amount is in the band as he has recorded from your previous visits. Then ask to have a fill done under Fluoroscopy to check if their is a leak. I'd hate to have you go through re-banding if it's something that can be resolved without having surgery. YIKES! Good luck call your doctor get some answers!

    Radiating EAR PAINS??

Actually sounds more like what is called TMJ or TMD, which is related to chewing, inflammation, trauma, incorrect bite or if you clench or grind your teeth. The joint right in front of your ear can cause pain and it can radiate down your neck and up into the temple. just a thought..but see your Doctor and get it checked..keep us posted..hope you feel better soon.
  11. The death of a Perth woman nearly two years after a stomach banding operation was likely preventable and highlights the importance of educating doctors about identifying and managing complications from gastric banding, the Deputy State Coroner has found. Evelyn Vicker said that given how frequently gastric banding procedures were done, there was a need to ensure patients and GPs were well informed about the risks and side effects. 14. Like I've said Time and time again...and will continue... Doesn't matter where this is posted it will be attacked. NO problem I have Broad shoulders. Yes I agree 100% this WAS Preventable!! And NOT everyone has the perfect Surgeon/support/ aftercare. Read the boards how many times have newbies asked this very question. "should I be concerned? did my band slip? I vomited. I find it quite amusing that anyone can post what they ate today, that they pb'd or can't think of what to eat. But anything Factual YET negative is Attacked. It happens, get used to it, Because If everyone here NEW/long banded KNEW everything then no one would come to this forum or the others just like it . I'll be sure to get clearance from next time I post anything Informative and make sure I've titled it correctly...

    slipage

.Reports of Pain should be evaluated by a band doctor, I realize that you've moved recently? but perhaps you need to keep looking for someone to see you ASAP. Pain during eating could be due to bites of food being too larger especially when you say it causes increased saliva=sliming... A good start would be to have Fluro or Endoscopy so that they can check the band position, flow through the band and the esophagus, food stuck can cause pain from pressure on the esophagus. Hope you get some help soon!

How long do lap bands last?

Great Question!! I'd love to talk to anyone that is 10 yrs + according to Allergan just one of the manufactures of Lb's state:The LapBand AP is not a lifetime product and may break or fail, in whole or in part at anytime Don't shoot the messenger I didn't print it they did. But they do this of course to cover their back-sides

    Question....

SaraJ= BIOTIN for hair loss.. it's over the counter Stept04= 1 Fill usually isn't going to provide restriction...Sorry but you will be able to eat anything, that is where the reduced calories part of having a lap band comes into play. Is it possible that the First bite is too large? As banders we have to learn early on to chew, chew, chew until it's like mush. reason for this is because as the band is fuller the stoma is smaller and were unable to eat large pieces of food. So it's better to learn now opposed to later when it might really hurt and get stuck. It's possible to get stuck on anything one day and not the next, the band is a fickle beast. Normal fills are done 6 weeks post -op then monthly thereafter ...so it depends where you are in that process...also some Doctor's go by what you tell them in respect to how you have managed your last fill. SO getting your Dr's advise as to whether to have another fill is important. I believe your too early into your experience to have satiety from 1 cup of food and expecting it to last for 4hrs...BUT you'll get there eventually.

    Port area still swollen

Yep, it's normal.. you've had major surgery and scar tissue is forming around the port and it will (or mine does) feel sort of hard and moveable under the skin. As long as your not in pain, running a fever or the port site is red your doing fine. BUT.. if it bothers you allot call the doctor and ask that's why you pay them.
  23. JACKIEO85

    Leak

It's not uncommon to have restriction (and I use that term loosely) at 5 years out, that may be from scar tissue underneath the band. To me a Leak is a Leak no matter when it occurs, and it seems obvious that you have one if saline isn't staying in the band. The lap band company isn't going to reimburse you or anyone(sorry that's just a fact) They have all the complications listed in their literature and whether you were given/shown that literature is irrelevant to them. ( they have their backsides covered) What type of injection did you have? that's the first time I've heard that occurring. most often after an unfill a liquid diet is advised to reduce the possible swelling to the stomach. AS LEXUS86985 stated having a removal is not a baratric procedure. Sorry your having problems. keep us posted
