big tex got a reaction from debpaige in Just checking in...june 10 surgery
Just wanted to check in. I'm almost three weeks post op and down 50 lbs from preop diet. I'm doing great, starting to eat more "normal" types of food. I feel great! I just wanted to thank everyone on this forum for all the support as I began this journey. I was very nervous and hasn't been bad at all. Those last few days before surgery, reading people's stories on this forum got me through. So glad I did this.

big tex got a reaction from mrsto in European opinion
In an ideal world, we would have been able to get our weight issues under control without surgery. It is important to me to think about what these studies consider complications. A complication can range from pain at the port to vomiting to complete catastrophic slippage. The vast majority of the complications reported were things I determined to be minor compared with the risks of being obese. There is no perfect answer, but for me knowing that if there was a problem or if something better comes along, they could take the band out. I have no regrets, but I was just banded on Monday???Š. Nothing wrong with dissent though..,I have lost 30 plus pounds since preop and still have my stomach intact, so I feel good. Every person has to ultimately decided the risk/benefit analysis for themselves though. I have friends who went the sleeve route and they are happy too. I just personally couldn't wrap my brain around that.

Sorry to hear that, I was never bullied but I know that people had opinions about my weight. I have a pretty sharp tongue so I think most people knew to keep there opinions to themselves. I understand the feelings of wanting to keep this process private, but I just figured I'm gonna tell everybody. If someone has an opinion about it one way or the other the can kiss my a@&. This is our struggle, and unfortunately you can't really keep struggles with weight hidden like other struggles. Everybody has a struggle, and if they say they don't then they are liars. I posted on Facebook the day of my surgery" I had lapband today. So in few few months if I'm thinner, you will know why. And if I'm still fat...judge me in silence???Š". Take away the ammunition and hold your head high. I'm sorry there are rude people in your life. I wish the best for you, just know that there are many others in your corner, even if only in spirit.
    Good Luck!

I struggled with this too. My doctor does both so he didn't seen to have a bias. I just liked the fact that if there ever was a problem (god forbid) they could take it out. The sleeve is a riskier surgery, and once your stomach is gone...it's gone. The problems with the band are usually fixable and not that serious, but anything can happen. I know people who have bands and people who have sleeves. Both with successes and bumps in the road. Either one is a tool, I just wanted least risk, with most reward. Good luck in your decision. My band is still new, but I'm happy I did it. I learned that asking this question sometimes turns into a Ford's vs. Chevy's conversation. With a good doctor and good discipline I think both a relatively safe and successful.
