I agree it is a disease and causes others like diabetes, high blood pressure, heart blockage.

Your life would be better if you unfriend and block her on your FB account. Life is too short to deal with callous individuals.

So imagine my surprise when scrolling through my fb feed I see this post.....
    "Seriously?!
To the lobbyists at the House of Rep. trying to get it passed that "Obesity is a Disease"...hear me say that Hell will freeze over before my tax dollars go towards yet one more idiotic Obama Care mission. Let's just provide one more incentive for Americans to stop working, eat more, and give them free electronics to satisfy them while they sit on the couch contributing nothing to humanity. Um, no. Where are the incentives for MY healthy body, good work ethic and willingness to give more than I receive in hopes of making the world a better place?! Let's all take a reality check here!!! Please."
Personally, I was offended. I know this woman and she has never struggled with weight. Apparently, since I am obese, the two jobs I work and the fact that I'm in grad school full time mean I'm not contributing to society, am getting free electronics, and just sit on the couch all day. I'm also slightly confused how she is making the world a better place while working retail.....
So what do you all think about obesity being a disease?

Personally, I think you are 100% correct. I've read too many posts claiming this to be the case for me to believe otherwise.
Also, I have seen a few cases at a support group that make me believe you are right.
Thanks for sharing your CC amount. It is very interesting.
And I think we will both be skinny for winter. Ah, what a freaking relief that will be

Brilliant! So well said. Exactly how I felt, but never stopped to really solidify the thought. That is dead on.
Me too. I felt this way on my third fill... and yesterday had my 4th. I'm sure it's going to happen. I'm at 7 CC now. Thinking chances of hitting the green zone soon are high.
Thanks so much for sharing. You echoed so many of my own thoughts, concerns and frustrations.
I have little doubt we will both be in the green soon.

Things seem more consistent for me, but I'm sure that is because I haven't been in the green zone. It seems for a week after a fill I can eat whatever I want, but not very much of it. Slowly as time goes, I can eat more and more. I'm betting the initial restriction is just swelling from the fill.
I've had two PB/vomiting episodes since being banded, but both were easily preventable if I had eaten slower and chewed more.
I've read others talk about this kind of fluctuation you describe. I haven't seen a lot of discussion on it, but I would think it's got to be pretty normal if someone is properly restricted. You seem to be doing well with your weight loss which makes me think you are in the green zone. For whatever that is worth

I think if the doctor is decent at all, he/she won't get after you. They should be supportive and understanding.
While it does happen that people are denied, I think the chances of that are pretty low. Sounds like you are just being too hard on yourself.
I think it's awesome you are going in for a fill and trying to move forward.
I would like to ditto GuyMontag above though. Have the same question and concern.

Most docs and most all bariatric surgeons understand the ups and downs of weight loss. If they don't get it by now, they should find a different profession. If your doc has any compassion or an interest in his patients well-being, he/she will understand your issues and encourage you to get back on the bandwagon.
There have been several accounts of some A-hole doctors who think that scolding their patients motivates them. Stupid docs. But, they're in a small minority so go in and expect to be hugged and encouraged!

Why did you stop taking your depression meds? Not to be nosy but that would concern me more than my weight loss. Plus, the two are usually connected.

Lol!!!! Yes, it will be a huge relief! It'll be nice to wear a belt that isn't 10 ft long and shirts that aren't baggy (as if baggy ever hid my rolls). I'm going thru my closet questioning some of my clothing choices as a fat person. Eeek.

Hey so your words def spoke to me-- so how are you eating as you get to green zone- I have days where I can eat but others like today that I can barely keep broth down. I am at 5.8ccs of my 10ccs band and lost 50lbs since surg in Dec 12

A week ago today I had my third fill (7.5cc in a 10cc band). I am able to keep liquids and some solid foods down. However, I have thrown up many foods I think I should be able to eat, (dark meat chicken, egg whites, etc.) and I am chewing my food completely / taking small bites.
Like I said, I am keeping down some things. And I had been successful with the previous fill. I have lost 46 lbs since my surgery in March.
But has anyone else experienced this after a fill? Did it get better and you adjusted to the "new normal" or should I consider having some saline removed?

I'm at 7.8 cc now. She told me with this one or the next I should hit my sweet spot. It seems like everything hinges on the sweet spot so I have this ideology that when i hit it, ill have mastered my lapband lol. I know its dumb to think the weight is gonna fall off but I've seen it happen for some. I'm doing everything correctly and I'm losing. I wish I could have been skinny for summer but oh well. Ill be skinny for winter.

Lol I know I know. But.....I still hope for magic at each fill. I just weighed myself and I've already lost 6 oz. Ha! Seriously though, I know its a long process and I'm thankful for each pound I shed.

I have over 14cc in my 14cc band. Some people just have lean stomachs, at least on the inside, and this just means the band will need more Fluid for good restriction. A leak is always a possibility but be wary of having your fluid drawn out, checked, and put back in because this can cause swelling just like a normal fill can. I made the mistake of having my fluid drawn out to see how much was there and then adding extra at the same time. That was a big mistake and it made me too tight.

It took me 6 fills to reach the green zone. Keep getting fills to you feel satisfied with less food. 30 lbs/5 mos is average.

Just had my 5th fill. I'm not gonna say my 5th and final because I thought my 4th fill was my final fill. I don't know why but, every time I go I feel like, "ok this is the magic dose and now I'm gonna get skinny". I guess lapband is a disappointment in that regard because its such a slow process. I, however, am also thankful for my lapband because I don't want all the skin issues, bypass patients get. Yes, they lose weight fast, but some gain it all right back because, unlike lapband, when they stretch its permanent. My sister had bypass and lost a 100 lbs. I became the fat sister. 8 years later she's put about 30 back on and now I have lapband. Needless to say she's already contacted a surgeon about band over bypass lol. Come on 5th fill!! Make me skinny! I know it doesn't work like that but I use my band correctly so I know the weight is gonna start really falling off. I'm not gonna be the fat sister. Hopefully it won't be her either. We're sending "fat" vibes towards our skinny sister. Its her turn lol!

Thanks again B-52. You and several others on this board really have helped me understand the lap band better.
That certainly has been true for me so far. Sliders fill me up as fast or nearly as fast as solid Proteins.
I have to say, I've kind of been thinking the same thing. I do wonder sometimes when people claim they can gain weight on slider foods if they might be on the edge between yellow and green zone. I certainly hope that is the case. I love slider foods and hate to think that one day the band will fail me in this department. If that happened, I would have to rely on will power to stop myself. Will power never seems to last.
