sick of movies representing fat women as stupid!

I liked Melissa McCarthy when I first saw her in something; thought she was hysterical. But every single thing she does, is the exact same character. I do not see her as a social representation of "fat women", but I've gotten to the point where I don't care for her......or any actor that can't switch gears. On another note, we're big fans of Drop Dead Diva, which portrays a heavy woman as intelligent and comfortable in her own skin. We don't like the show because of anything to do with her weight. We just simply.....enjoy the show. I can name several other heavy actors who play intelligent, professional women. I don't see Melissa McCarthy as a representation for the obese female population. I see her as someone who has stereotyped herself, but will hopefully break that annoying repetition down the road.
  2. As they say "misery loves company". When you decided to get healthy, she no longer wanted your "company". It's very clear to everyone outside of the situation, that she is a mentally unstable woman. She clearly feels that friends are disposable, and if they don't feel the same as her on every single level, she discards them. I know this is easier said than done, but walk away and try to let it go. Stop reading her blogs and move on with your life. You made an excellent choice to get healthy, and should focus on the positive things ahead. In time, when you look back, hopefully you will see her and the whole "fat acceptance" thing for what it really was. I do not believe in a "fat acceptance movement", even though I've struggled with obesity my entire life. I never accepted it, and never felt good living in my own body. Aside from appearance, it's unhealthy and dangerous to carry around all that extra weight. Your ex-friend can call it what she wants, but anyone who has to drop friendships because their feelings don't mirror her own, is a pretty sick cookie. Move on with your life and find new friends that accept you for ALL that your are.
  3. Wow I was rushed. LolI was there at 11:30 and out by 3:30 with A 2 hour drive home. This is my 4th day after surgery and doing good My surgery was scheduled for 11am, but they didn't take me in until closer to 3:30. I had the band with gastric plication, hernia repair and my gallbladder removed. By the time I was out of surgery, it was too late to send me home. But I'm glad they kept me, because I was pretty miserable the first night.
  4. Though mine was supposed to be outpatient, they ended up keeping me overnight. YES, woke me up every couple of hours for this, that or the other thing
  5. You should definitely call your doctor. I believe Aspirin is in Goody's, which is a huge no no with the lap band. And it looks like you're only two months out. It sounds like you may be having issues from that. Your doctor can best advise. He/she may want to do an GI swallow and/or an endoscopy. Either way, surgery is not involved unless you actually have a slip. Good luck.

    Alcohol

It depends when you had your surgery. During the healing process it should be avoided. I didn't have a drink until about three months out. Now, I enjoy some wine on the weekends, without issue. Well, I have no issues from the actual alcohol, but I DO become very loose with eating.....which is the bigger problem. That's why I drink on the weekends, only. Then, right back on track.
  7. Congrats on your upcoming surgery! Very exciting..... Make sure that you have everything you'll need for your post op diet; Protein shakes, Clear liquids, etc. If your doctor gave your post-op prescriptions to fill, have those ready as well. Everyone responds differently after surgery, but you might want to have some Gas-X on hand, and a heating pad. You may not need either one, but if you do, you'll be glad that to have them close by. Good luck!
  8. You are amazing, Jim. Your strength and transformation is motivating and inspirational. Thank you so much for sharing your story. I don't visit this site that much anymore, but I'm glad I caught your post this morning.

    #2 help!

I use Miralax regularly; every other day. I'm a lot older than the original poster, and constipation has been an ongoing issue. Miralax isn't a stimulant laxative, and works "gentle wonders".

    I'M SO NERVOUS!

I had my surgery in March 2013, and at this point I don't even think about it. I've settled into banded life, and rarely have any issues. I say rarely, because if I overeat I'll be reminded that I had this procedure. And thank God for that! You'll do fine... Most people do, but there are the horror stories. As SandyM says above, the ones who had issues will try and scare the crap out of the rest of us. Please keep in mind that they are a small minority. The band/plication helped me save my life, and I have zero regrets.
  12. This is a difficult one.... A close friend is going through the same thing. She went back on Lexapro, and gained over 50 pounds. Unfortunately, this is a problem with certain types of antidepressants. You might want to talk with your doctor and see if he/she can try something else. There are a few that I know of that don't cause weight gain. I believe Prozac and Wellbutrin don't have this issue. Also, Effexor. But if what you're currently taking is working for you, then switching can be a problem. The only other thing you can try, is to beef up your exercise routine. If you're walking 30 minutes a day, bump it up to 30 minutes twice a day......something along those lines. You may be able to reel it in, but it's going to be a challenge. Those drugs slow everything down, and that's why the weight comes on.

    Who can relate?

I think it's soooo important to remember where we started, and what great success it is to hover around a three pound radius. You're doing fine!!!
  15. You took the high road.....which speaks volumes about you. Good riddance to bad rubbish......
  16. You had me @ Holy shitballs Haha........me too! Love it :-)

    hCG and Lap Band?

I'm only five pounds from my goal, but have also fallen into maintenance mentality. But I'm okay with it, and keep my eye on the big picture. At my one year visit with my surgeon, I expressed concerns that I'm eating more, and the band signal is no longer that strong/loud. He said that after time, we learn to eat around the band. Same goes for the other surgeries. We get used to it, and eat past it. And I'm totally guilty of this. Sometimes my compulsion to keep eating, outweighs the discomfort from eating past the hard signal. But it doesn't happen on a daily basis, and I'm still losing sloooooowly. But lets face it.....we are who we are. We didn't end up having WLS because we were able to control our need and desire to eat. It's a continual work in progress.
  18. GREAT! Well done :-)
  19. I can't sugar coat this..... Your "friend" is a real piece of work; completely narcissistic and delusional. I hope she doesn't drop dead from a stroke or heart attack, while she's feverishly working toward "fat acceptance". I've never read a bigger bunch of b-shit in this forum. She is the poster child for narcissism, and you will be so much better off without her.

    2 questions.

Slooooow down! Give your body a chance to heal. There is plenty of time for rigorous exercise. As RedStorm says above......just walk for now, and don't push it for another 2-3 weeks. Your body has just been through major surgery. No need to jump into high gear so soon. There is plenty of time; just allow the healing process to take place.

    Removing fill & eating

That's actually true, even though I wasn't advised of any restrictions. Once my band was emptied, it took a good 2 weeks for the "too tight" issues to subside.
