    Is my surgeon right?

I agree with what has already been said. Eating should not hurt! I think you are having trouble with foods that are typical to have trouble with, when banded. I have trouble with broccoli unless it's cooked a lot. I also have trouble with scrambled eggs. Fried, poached or hard boiled are fine. Have no idea why. Another thing I can't tolerate is dry meat, make sure it's nice and moist. Best wishes!

    Allergic....

Not allergic to tape- but do have allergies to lots of lotions with perfumes and get eczema. Broke out in hives from pennecilin. I found benedryl works wonders. I would ask your doc. if you can take that. Really really helped me.

    Morning Slime

So glad you are feeling better. I have been to tight so know how great if feels to be a bit looser and able to keep things down.

    Good goal?

Yep- your goal sounds spot on!

    Can I have milk?

Agreed- milk is not a clear liquid and that every doc. is different. I was on protein shakes right after surgery. I had no problems. I would suggest that if you are very weak/hungry you ask the doc. about protein shakes. Congrats on your surgery!

    wow...bad news

Wow- I am very sorry about your Grandma. You have gotten lots of good advice here. I would add that you want to stay strong, for your Grandma, for you, for the rest of your family. Chocolate won't help you stay strong. Eating according to your plan will. If you are working out, try to keep that up. It's a great stress reliever. And of course, feel your feelings, cry, talk about it. Don't bury your feelings in food. I know all this is easy to say, I wish you the best and again am very sorry.

    Morning Slime

I would say, stick with the protein shake for breakfast. When I was "restricted" it was all I could handle. I was able to eat a snack a couple hours later. Even now, bread is a sure no no in the am, and I choose to keep my band kinda loose. Another thought is yogurt, you could bring that to work. I eat it with fiber one, not sure you could handle the cereal though. Good luck!

    my weight

Wow! I can't believe you have to ask if that's good lol. I lost weight really quickly too. Too quickly I think. Gained a lot of it back over the past couple years. I think I didn't make a "life style" change. I didn't "cheat" once in 10 months. Moderation has to be the key, and it's really hard for me. I don't know enough to say you are in the same boat. Although your weight loss is more than mine, you started out heavier. Just food for thought and keep up the awesome job!

    Hairloss

3 months out is right around the time I started to loose hair, and pretty typical from what I've read on forums. Try not to worry, it will stop and grow back. I know how scary it is. I went to the dermatologist when it happened to me. Much to my relief, he assured me I wasn't going bald. He said it's a reaction to the stress of rapid weight loss. A couple months later it stopped falling out and started growing back in. I didn't take biotin and had always gotten at least 60 gms of protein. Good luck, you should be fine!

Feel like i cant go out.

I agree- I would talk to somebody, a counselor could help you sort out your anxiety. Good luck! Hope you feel better soon!

    Dizziness

I had dizziness and had my blood pressure checked- it was fine. Turned out my blood sugar was too low. I was on meds for it and got taken off them and was fine. If you are on meds for bp or diebeties I would contact your pcp.

    Rough Food Challening evening

You did great! Every time you get through a situation like that you get stronger. Keep up the good work.

Is it too late for me?

Wow- sorry you went through all that. MRSA is very serious. I don't think it's every too late to work your band. Go back to the basics- protien first, then non-starchy veggie, then a small amount of starch if your still hungry. Workout when you get the goahead from your doc. You can do this!

    Emergency defill?

Don't be bummed about the unfill. You certainly seemed to have needed it. Focus on healing and then get fills as needed. Good luck!

    Liquor

I agree - enjoy, just figure in the calories for the day and of course realize it's empty calories and not something to indulge in too often. On the beer- most docs say carbonation is out- stretches the pouch. That means no beer, no champagne- no soda sorry
  17. I agree to keep focus on yourself. I can't tell you what is right for you, but I would hold off on picking things up with your ex. Seems like your still friends, which is great. He will be there when your ready. You seem to have a great attitude! I think any feelings around WLS are legitimate for sure. People react differently. I was mostly just really excited. I was self pay so the money I spent deffinately motivated me to be successful. Yes, extra skin will be an issue. But like you said, you will be a healthier you.

    Anyone have dizzy spells?

Where are you in your weight loss journey? Are you eating very low carb? Are you on blood sugar medicine or insulin? I got dizzy spells, and actually passed out once, and it turned out my blood sugar level was extremely low. The other culprit could be low blood pressure. Are you on a med for that? If you have changed your lifestyle to include less carbs or healthier carbs and/or excersise you may need to have any meds you are on adjusted. I would contact your pcp. Feel better!
  19. To me, sounds like your borderline. I would talk with your dr. about exactly what your eating and what your hunger is like. Take notes and bring them in. You don't want to be too tight, believe me. Been there, done that. I have had as small as a .1 fill bring me from hungry all the time to not being able to keep down protein shakes.
  20. The purpose of the preop diet, as I understand it, is to shrink the liver. They need to lift the liver in order to work on placing the band. If the liver is too big, there isn't enough room to work. I didn't have a preop diet, because by the time I met with the nutritionist, my surgery was in just a few days. I had been out of town. She told me to have 2 shakes and one meal until surgery. I have to admit to not following that at all. I ate several "last meals". My surgery went fine. Not that I reccomend that. Obviously it is best to follow instructions. In looking back, I was wrong to be non-compliant. Luckily all went well.

    I Stumbled.......

I agree, guilt is not a helpful emotion, although I know it's hard not to feel it when you've gone off the plan. You have a good attitude about getting right back on track. At 21/2 weeks out I was on solid food, so I think your ok there. Good luck!

    Frustrated

I think you are doing great. Realize this is a life style change. You are learning habits you will need to maintain for the rest of your life. I got banded 11/09 and lost 107 pounds in 10 months. I stuck to a low carb/ low fat eating regime religiously. I worked out lots. Now the bad part, I have gained about half of that weight back in the last year and a half or so. Went back to my old habits and it just spiraled out of control. I am struggling to get back on track. I have had a good 3 days, a small step, but something. I am now eating healthy carbs and good fats and don't feel so deprived. I am eating the way I know I should eat for the rest of my life, at least 90% of the time anyway. I know the weight loss will be slower- but hopefully it will be forever.

    Bread

I find I can eat toasted bread, if it's not to early in the day. I am tighter in the morning for sure. Anytime of day doughy bread gets stuck. Pasta usually does too. As said, it's just not worth it. I agree with sticking to the whole grains for sure!

Ugh. I can eat anything !

Hang in there! You are in what is known as "bandster hell". The time before you get restriction from fills. 6 weeks out is typical for a first fill. I hate to say this, but just want you to be aware, the first fill may not do much if anything. It took me 3 fills to feel some restriction. Keep doing what your doing eating and excersise wise, work with your doctor and it will happen for you. Congrats on your surgery and good luck!

    Need Your Book Ideas!

All great ideas so far. I would include a section on weight maintainance for sure. That is a struggle for so many obese people. I know for me, all my life my weight has been up and down. I am either gaining or loosing. Regain is a serious issue, help with that would be great.
