Post op you have to crush your pills and in the beginning stages of healing I wouldn't trust that your stomach is absorbing everything the way it used to. The other problem is that birth control pills increase your risk of a blood clot. I didn't want anything to put me more at risk for that either.

I don't trust the absorption issues post op with the pill. I got an IUD! Best decision for me.

I started training for a 5k four weeks ago. When I started I "ran" a 16 minute mile. Since then I've dropped 11 pounds, 2 inches in my waist, and yesterday I ran a 12 minute mile. That's a lot of progress in 4 weeks. I'm halfway through my training. Hopefully the progress keeps showing..

Generally' date=' the doctors will want you to wait 6 weeks before getting into intense exercise or lifting. Walking can and should be done as soon as possible for many reasons. Start slow and build up your distances and intensity in those first few weeks after surgery. The first walk will feel like hell and probably be a block in distance or less, but it is part of the process to recover from surgery. Depending on your own goals and motivation, you might start the c25k after the 6 week mark. Some start later. Listen to your body in order to prevent injury. I like to champion the ChiRunning style because it focuses on a running technique that minimizes injury and maximizes efficiency / enjoyment. It is one approach to running. There are many in this forum that can help with running suggestions.[/quote']
I got a modified release to work out everything except my abs at 2 weeks. I've listened to my body and I'm doing fine. I'm 5 weeks out now and really enjoying my new found love of exercise.

I'm going to do the same thing in May with the nut and a group of other post surgery people. We're starting the middle of March but I've actually done Water aerobics 2 days in a row!! I don't know if I can run but they said I can walk it if I can't run it. Knee replacement 2 years ago April.Good luck! I hope your knee lets you run it, but either way you'll be proud when you cross that finish line!

Safe travels and best wishes! You'll be coming back to a whole new life. Just keep your focus on how wonderful it will be when you're healthy. Nothing good comes easy!

Good luck! You won't regret it. I'm 2 weeks post op today. I've lost 15 lbs since the surgery and a total of 40 since August. You'll do great!

Best wishes on your procedure, Paige! I've been diabetic since I was 9 years old and years ago I had a problem with gastroparesis and I know it is so painful. Mine ended up going away with Meds and some time. (This was long before my VSG was done.) I hope yours heals up quickly. I'm sorry you have to go through it!

My WLS support group in my area all signed up at the local gym for a "Boot Camp" to get us all in shape to run a local 5k in May. Tonight is the first session. Wish me luck, because I'm terrified!

Thanks for the inspiration. I'm definitely willing to suffer for what lies ahead. I can't wait! I've already lost 14 pounds since my surgery and it's only been 8 days!

Are you back home? My doc' date=' diabetic one, adjusted my levels in the hospital, before I left. He, very kindly, left me his email address, too. Same with my "pump" nurse.Having their help "on tap" and monthly visit to the clinic glucose control went rather well. The biggest "problem" was to get my head to adjust to new insulin needs.[/quote']
I'm back home. I got to go home on my 2nd day post-op. Unfortunately my endo didn't have privileges to the hospital I was at, so I've been faxing my blood sugars to him and having them adjusted. So far it's going very well and I only need about half of the insulin I used to. It's amazing.

I had my surgery one week ago today. I was such a nervous wreck before having it that I was crying in the hospital. I wish I'd have known that it's not so bad. (I feel like child birth was much worse.) I had enough pain medicine in the hospital to cover my needs. I'm already 12 pounds less than what I weighed when I went in the hospital. My scars don't look like they'll be too bad. I bought some mederma and kelo-cote gel to help them heal once I'm allowed to put them on there. I tend to scar pretty badly. So far it's not been as bad as I thought it would be. Good luck ladies! You'll do fine! Just keep focused on that healthier "you" that is right around the corner!!!

Hello everyone! It's so nice to see that there are other people out there like me. I'm 28 years old, I've been a type 1 Diabetic for the past 18 years. I've been on an insulin pump for the past 10 years. I had my sleeve done a week ago. It's been a lot of work with controlling my blood sugars, but it's all worth it. I'm really looking forward to losing the weight and feeling young and healthy again!
