  1. I really need to plan. I won't be able too take too long off of work--mostly because a large part of my income depends on commission. How long will it be before I can go back to work? Will it be very obvious (sp) to my co-workers that I had the surgery? I'm very worried about what I will tell my coworkers because they will expect me to go out to lunch? Could anyone comment on how to answer questons from people who are not very close friends or family?:help:

    Lower BMI Bandsters!

I'm not banded yet. But I'm going to a bariatric group to help meet the requirements of my insurance. The goal is not to lose weight during the program, but to change lifestyle and eating habits so the days after the surgery are not a shock! I think it's great, just making the time is tough. My BMI is 40 right now. I'm still not sure my insurance will authorize the band, but the dr.'s office said they would help me. My question is this. . .I thought I would never be able to eat bread, rice and Pasta after the surgery. How are is everyone doing eating the starch/carbs?????? I'm also considering having surgery in MX if my insurance does not approve it in the U.S. Could you advise how expensive it was and how difficult was it to make the arrangements.

    Unsupportive Spouse

I'm not yet banded, but I feel your pain. I was married to someone I didn't truely love because of family pressure. I'm the first in my family to have ever been divorced, and PROUD of it. I married a man who turned out to be an incredible father, he was neither abusive or drunk or anything like that, we were just not ment for each other. I had to leave for my sanity. I decided that struggling with money and being alone was better than the loveless relationship I was in. Part of my journey in life has been to do the right thing for me--leaving my husband, explaining it to my child and family. Becoming financially stable and yes, loving myself and taking control! If he is a good father now, he will be a good father later. My ex husband is still the best father I have ever met! I'm not saying leaving your husband is the answer, but you need to speak to him and maybe a therapist too. LOTS OF HUGS!
  5. Also, can I be alone after the surgery???

    Help In Louisiana

If the dr.s in the U.S will not help you, I would suggest the surgens in Mexico. The proceedure has been available in Mexico for appx 8-10yrs now and the surgeons are more experienced than in the U.S. You can do a web search and look up info, you can even speak to persons who have been "banded" in Mexico right on this site! Good Luck.
  7. Aetna PPO is exactly what is on my mind too! I had my psych eval today. My BMI is just at 40, but I have a lot of problems with my knees, so I'm hopping that will get approval. The surggeon's office was very upfront with me and advised that Atnea is one of the most difficult insurance companies to get approval from, but eveyone has promised to help me. I was assured by the all the staff that everyone that has been though the bariatric program has been approved. My surgeon placed me in a program with diatician, trainer, etc. I have to "practice" the diet and foods/textures that I will be able to eat afterwards. That has really put everything in perspective.
