So many great stories, mine is not so different. I was a tiny baby 4lb 6 oz,at age 2 I could walk under the kitchen table and not even hit my head....I was the skinny kid that people always wanted to feed UNTIL the fat fairy hit me with her wand at age 13. I BLOSSOMED-a typical pear my hips were at least 1-2 sizes bigger than my top. I was convinced that I was FAT so I started on my long trail of neverending diets...Now looking back at sixteen I wore a size 14, I thought I was so huge (Iwish I could have stayed that fat) my first DH blessed me with the nickname CHUBS which I convinced myself was cute. I gained weight with each child (4) and new husband (1) until I found myself weighing 225, barely 5'1 and my feet were killing me....I tried every diet and exercise only to lose weight and gain it back again. I was so happy to hear of the band and started to entertain the idea of getting one and here I am all banded and losing. So glad to be amongst you all. Nancy

New here - considering the Lap Band
slenderella replied to kari_berry's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
HI, I just wanted to encourage you to call your ins. co now!!!They were soooo helpful to me in my decision to do this....I have BC/Bs ppo, they told me that I did not have to be preapproved, gave me a list of the conditions that I would need to meet, she was very helpful...You do have to follow all of your Dr.s reccommendations, testing etc...my surgery was paid for after about 1 wk after surgery!!!!AWESOME. If one person tells you no, call back and speak with another to be sure. If they all say no ask to appeal, this is a life threatening situation and you need this surgery to stay alive and get healthy! Good Luck, oh I'm in MI also, Armada near Romeo where the apple orchards are...if you need a GREAT Dr. let me know. Nancy -
The running around before surgery is the hardest part of it all, the surgery and post banding is a breeze! Welcome! Nancy

New to the Lap Band world
slenderella replied to DebW's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi Deb, Welcome to Bandland. PB means productive burp. If you don't chew something well enough or eat too much too fast you may get something stuck....you will know it, I have only done it 2 times and felt like I was having a heart attack, gurgling in my throat, pains in my back below my shoulders...after a few minutes I went to the bathroom and leaned over the sink and worked a burp out and some "slime" (mucous) came out and I felt lots better. But some people actually burp up chunks of food, there fore pb.....I was just banded August 9th, don't know how many pounds lost, but since 6/19 I've lost 12 1/2 inches and 2 sizes of jeans.... Chat with you soon, Nancy -
One week Post op. lost 12 LBS!!!!!

Hi, Congratulations on your upcoming banding. Every Dr. has a different diet for post op. Mine let me have any liquids, blended soups, yogurt drinks, juice. No pop, in fact I just plain quit drinking it! Applesauce and other blended fruits were ok, milkshakes or diet shakes were ok too. Good Luck, you'll love it!!! Nancy
