Hi Honorsmom, I didn't enjoy sleeping flat on my back either when I tried it as I found it quite painful. I actually slept semi-sitting up on the sofa propped up by lots of pillows (then could sort of move a bit onto either side) which I suspect may be more comfy than just sleeping flat out on your back?... I wish I had better news but it took me about a week before I could sleep "normally". I am not a stomach sleeper, however, so as far as that goes, I'm afraid I don't have any tips...

Post-Op Roundup - how is everyone doing?

I know, those first few days can be a real rough go... I was surprised how rough they were for me, but towards the end of the week I was feeling much better. Please try not to worry too much about the loss right now - your body is probably hanging on to lots of Fluid as it is desperately trying to heal you. I'm sure once things regulate you will start to see some progress... I know it is frustrating!! Hope your recovery is speedy

Post-Op Roundup - how is everyone doing?

I definitely think it sounds like dehydration... but you seem to be drinking lots - if worse comes to worse, I would maybe check with your doc? Hope you feel better soon.

Post-Op Roundup - how is everyone doing?

It's so great to hear how everyone is doing. A lot of people mentioned feeling like their weight loss was stuck, but things will get back on track and your scale WILL catch up with you. Several years back I lost a lot of weight on my own (unfortunately it came back due to stress etc.) and I remember that I wouldn't lose for a week or more then all of a sudden there would be a drop. Especially when exercizing... your body is making new muscles and you may actually gain weight while getting slimmer inches-wise. I did my first 5K during that period, and I want to work up to one too but giving myself LOTS of time as I am a bit older now. YAY, Creekwood, that's great that you are doing your 5K so soon!! Good to hear from you - I figured you were probably very busy. I'm a student as well (but taking the summer off) so I know how occupied that can keep you, esp. when you have kids to work around as well. drehn, glad you will have some time off - me too - and I plan to devote a lot of time to fitness etc. as well as I, also like you, hope to be in onederland by September when I go back to classes and my practicum. We can do this!! Lolarose, I hear you on wanting some more normal food. I have had a couple of (very well-chewed) bites of my family's dinners. Right now I am pretty much able to eat whatever I want as I have no Fluid in my band at all - I don't ever feel too full- but I go for my fill in early June - I think I need it as I am finally starting to feel hungry. Hang in there!!

    Advil

I was told that it is ok to take an Advil as long as it isn't very often... I guess it depends on the doctor...

    Lasagna cup

Today was my first day of the "mushy" foods... I had seen this post about a week ago and saved the recipe as I knew it would be my first foray back towards food after 4 weeks of liquids... it was YUMMY!!! I did substitute ricotta as I don't like cottage cheese... but the result was awesome!! thanks for posting.

Post-Op Roundup - how is everyone doing?

I was a bit disappointed as well that my surgeon did not talk to me either before or after... in fact, I just found out today two weeks post-op from my nutritionist (!) who read my chart that I had a hiatal hernia repair as well - I had absolutely no idea!! The first week is the worst, then things seem to improve more quickly after that. Not to worry you, but it does seem very soon for you to return to work - don't be too disappointed if it's too tough to stay the day. As for the regurgitation - that is super good that you are not having problems with that!! Hope all goes well for you!!

Post-Op Roundup - how is everyone doing?

I had similar emotions to you as well... still do a little bit still - crying then laughing. - Today was 2 weeks since my surgery. I still forget I have the band and go to gulp my water then realize I have to slow down a bit.. it is definitely a shock still. take care

Suger Free Gum During Pre Op

Welcome to the forums My nutritionist said it was fine regarding the gum. Honestly I found sugar free gum to be my saviour... every time I had a craving I would chew a piece. I had MANY different flavours stocked up - the Dentyne Fire cinnamon flavour seemed to work best at killing cravings. For the bad taste I used a strong mint flavour. I would check with your doctor, but I don't see why it would be a problem for you. Good luck and keep us posted on your progress!
  19. Hello - I was wondering how many of you drink "real" coffee post-op. I am allowed to have it - my nutritionist thinks it is fine and said she didn't expect me to give it up. I haven't had coffee since my surgery, however, as innately I thought it might irritate my stomach. Now almost two weeks out, I'm starting to think I might enjoy a coffee in the morning. Anyone else drink coffee with no problems? (I'm talking one cup brewed coffee with a bit of skim milk in it)

    Sitting here waiting

Awwww... I can relate! On this day two weeks ago, I was at the same point you are right now. I did the same, watched tv, read my book... and no food to cope with (except I chewed A LOT of different flavours of sugar free gum!!) It is a tough time, this waiting, but sooner rather than later you will be there and ready to go. I was VERY nervous, but things worked out fine, even though I did have a bit of a complication - which is RARE - and even so it was easily fixed and I am totally fine now. The first couple of days are a bit rough, but you will get through it and do well, I have no doubt!! hang in there and I know everyone will be looking forward to hearing your "after" story!
  21. I am very sorry you are going through this. I have had issues with my dad and weight for a very long time - I grew up hearing about "fat" people being gross etc. - I was very thin all through my teens, and I remember hearing "don't get FAT!!" If I gained a couple of pounds, I was immediately guilty and felt horrible. Imagine how it was when I moved out, and within a year I gained about 80lbs - I had become the dreaded "FAT" person. Twenty years later my dad has changed significantly and is softer, but every so often he will say things like... " I was talking to this huge woman today - she was probably about your size". And yet, he is the one that helped me pay for my surgery. I think that they really want us to be thinner and healthier, but something about either them being men, or their generation... who knows, it comes out sounding very harsh. I believe that inside your dad really does care about you and wants you to be healthier - but somehow the message doesn't come out clearly and he sounds like an ass, just like my dad does at times. Have you expressed to him how much he hurts you?? I know it seems hard to believe, but maybe he truly doesn't know... sometimes you just about have to hit someone over the head with it for them to see. I have called my dad out a few times, and he does feel bad... although he has still slipped up. They won't change over night, that's for sure In any case, please look after yourself and treat yourself well - you are doing the best you can for YOU and you deserve support. Love yourself - from your pic, you are a beautiful woman, very striking - and try not to let him get to you too much. all the very best to you.

    Coffee (not decaf)??

Yup, Tim Horton's is very popular in Canada - also in upstate New York (I lived there for a while and had one a block away). We have Starbucks as well, but it seems Timmie's rules

    Coffee (not decaf)??

I like the pods, but I also like grinding beans for the French press. Also - you can grind your own beans and use them in the Keurig as well, which I often do too. I need about a tbsp of skim milk in my coffee (long before I was trying to lose weight) and I'm good to go!!

    Coffee (not decaf)??

I got my Keurig a couple of years ago before they were as popular - at the time the best model was the platinum, which is what I got - the new Vue systems look pretty sweet though! At least now you can buy the pods in the grocery store easily... when I got mine, I had to go to specialty shops or order online which sucked. I do like to grind Beans too - I just use a french press when I do that. Smells so good, doesn't it?? I am with you - I don't drink much coffee, but what I do drink I like to be good For a while I was thinking maybe I would give it up, but I have definitely decided against that option!! Enjoy your new coffee maker!! Aren't we funny, lol - I know some people that would think we were crazy getting so into coffee makers etc.

    Coffee (not decaf)??

mrsinto, that coffee maker does look awesome. I like the fact you can make a single cup or a carafe. Something for me to keep in mind for the future!! I had returned a couple of things too and then found the Keurig (I ordered it online - I got the "special" one, haha) so I understand wanting to find one that's "just right" - like Goldilocks
