    Insurance question

I think as long as you follow through with all the requirements you should be fine. I had called my insurance company prior to setting up first dr appt and then the surgeons' office actually checked with the insurance company before scheduling the appt. I guess to insure that they don't waste my time and money. I wouldn't worry about it. Just be sure to select a surgeon in network.

    Is this normal?

Yes it's normal. My break down happened after surgery though....I realized that eating was my favorite activity so now I have to find things to do that don't involve food. It was hard.....the aromas, the sounds, the commericals, summer events you name it.....it was so freeaking hard to cope. But it's getting better.

Why did you choose RNY instead of sleeve?

I initially wanted the sleeve but then learned that they remove 80% of your stomach. I know that stomach cancer is rare but I didn't want to take any chances. Then I decided to get the lap band and after going on to Lapbandtalk.com and found that so many people had so many problems with malfunctions, slips, erosions, ulcers, and fills I was not convinced that the band was rational. So I decided to go with the gastric bypass rny because they told me it was laproscopic and the dumping syndrome really sold me because I'm a sweet and fast food junkie and I needed a tool that was going to eliminate my ability to indulge in those foods.
  6. My drain was removed right before I was discharged. I don't want to ever experience the feeling of the drain being removed ever again in life.

    Vomiting

I'm going through the same thing. I'm going to just stop with the chicken, tuna, and turkey. I'm not tolerating them well and it sucks because I need to get my protein in and I don't like protein shakes. So I'm stuck with protein soup, peanut butter and eggs.
  12. I haven't actually gone clothes shopping yet but I have been digging in my closet and tried on clothes that were too tight. They are starting to fit and my heels are way more comfortable.

    Hanging stomach/depressed!

Don't beat yourself up about hanging skin. There is always a way to cover it up for now. In the mean while make sure you strength train to reduce the amount of loose skin.

    Tubes tied?

Dang I wished I could have gotten mine done too. My surgery was done in a catholic hospital so they don't provide that service. I'm looking to get tied up before the end of the year though. I'm already maxed out with insurance so any more procedures are free.
  15. So I know that my pouch can only hold so much but I am able to drink at least 8 oz before I begin to feel full. Is 8 oz too much....and this is within a 15 min time span. I hope I'm not stretching my pouch. I just had my surgery on 7/16/13.

    Back pain

I still have back pain and I believe it is due to gas. I know that we shouldn't drink from straws but I find it hard to stomach protein shakes without them. It is a mental thing. So I just take the meds that are left over from the surgery when it gets too bad.

8 Days Left! HELP! Still Addicted to Diet Coke!

You will be able to do this. I too was a diet coke addict and a coffee fanatic. One day prior to surgery I just decided to give myself a deadline to stop it all together. I drank to my hearts desire and then when the deadline came I quit cold turkey. This surgery is something that I really wanted to have and I realize that soda and coffee were not going to do my pouch any good so I made the decision. I will admit that there were other things that I was addicted to prior to surgery that I never gave up but I can imagine that with me being on full liquids, then puree, and as I start gradually trying new foods I will develop better eating habits.

2 weeks post op pureed food

Wow my surgeon has me on full liquids so far. I think we had surgery the same day. I wish I could eat some food.

    One week away!

You just want to continue to prepare yourself mentally for this. I just had my surgery on 7/16/13. I had been psyched about having the surgery since my first consult back in Feb 2013 and took all the necessary steps to ensure that it happened but when it finally happened it wasn't like I had imagined. Don't get me wrong I don't regret my surgery at all but as far as the people I thought were going to be supportive, they really weren't. I wasn't really ready mentally as far as food goes. The couple of days I spent in the hospital were fine. It was when I went home that reality set in. My life revolves around food. I found that I can't enjoy television like I used to. I don't want to go to family outings because they are based around food. It is really sad when I really thought about it all. I'm starving mentally but I know that this is the fight thing to do and I can't ignore the ton of weight that I have lost already. So all I'm saying is just be sure you prepare yourself thoroughly. You might be spending some time home to recover and if you are used to eating out of boredom this was tough for me. As the days progress and I continue to get closer and closer to my fluid and protein goals it's getting better.

July 2013 - Post Op Thread

I'm 4 days out and dealing with lots of head hunger. I have some pain, and I struggle too get enough liquid in. Today I went to nutmeg state nutrition and got some protein soup and fruit drink. I can't wait to chew again. My family is very unsupportive and east all kinds if junk food.
  24. So I went in for surgery on July 16th in the morning at 5:30 AM. I was in the operating room around 7:00 and then I remember waking up around 2:30 in a lot of pain. Nothing to eat or drink on day 1. Then day 2 I had to take an x-ray and they saw alot of swelling so still nothing to eat or drink on day 2. Then on day 3 they allowed me to have an oz of water every hour. By the time I got to the fourth hour I was so full. My surgeon came in and suggested that I try some jello and I can tolerate it then they will be able to go home. So it all worked out and I'm home. Can't believe this has actually happened.
