    Dumping?!

I eat a ton of fruit every day and have never dumped. I once ate a cup of Cheerios cereal though and my heart raced. I didn't have any other symptoms but it was a strange feeling for sure. Someone earlier said that was some form of dumping. Other than that one time, it never happened again but then again i don't eat a cup of cereal with sugar in one sitting anymore lol. It was an exception for me due to the circumstances. My mother in law has serious dumping issues but that's because she eats cookies, cake and more and ignores any and all bypass rules. She has to live in the bathroom (diarrhea) and then lay down for hours. She had no issues with fruit, just sweets like cookies and candy... Etc. For the most part, most don't dump as others have said. Sent from my SM-S908U using BariatricPal mobile app
  3. Ate silken tofu, soups, hummus, jello pistachio sugar free with cashew milk, mashed potatoes, oat bran, yogurt, cottage cheese with taijima spice. Sent from my SM-S908U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Slider foods and dumping

From my understanding, slider foods are usually food that begin breaking down in your mouth, like chips, crackers, cake, candy and cookies. So they go right through the sleeve and rny pouch. Comfort food. So the simple carbohydrates do not give us that tightness feeling aka restriction so you can eat a much larger amount. Hence, the popular rule, protein first. I have never dumped but the closest i can was my heart racing after eating cereal. It was uncomfortable. Felt like a heart attack lol Sent from my SM-S908U using BariatricPal mobile app
  5. All those horror stories on the net are the exception and/or trolling. The majority of us are better now after surgery and wish we got it sooner. For me, being obese I already had one foot in the grave. I have several comorbities which I do not have any more. WLS gave me my life back, as it will you. Hang in there.

    Help! I need advice!

Could it be that your daughter is worried about you and wants the 11 year old to watch over you instead of vice versa just in case of an emergency? If that is the case, just tell her no but thank you so much, but it's not necessary and that the surgeon says that it's important for you to rest quietly with no distractions and that you will be sleeping for a few days after the surgery.

    Stomach capacity

You will know very soon what full feels like after the bypass, once you get to solid foods. I had 3 ounces of sliced beef for lunch and I had to stop at 2 ounces. It always feels like my chest and/or stomach will explode if I continue. If I don't stop, i.e. I ignore the pressure... I would then get the foamies or a terrible runny nose and congestion. Throwing up

I had issues with pills and them getting stuck in my throat for the first couple of months. No matter what size. So my Vitamins, I had to go chewables and patches. My medication consists of two small pills and even now they get hung up sometimes. The surgeon suggested drinking warm tea, water or coffee first to loosen throat, that helped a lot. 10. Unfortunately, yes. Especially since most sleevers do not dump. You will also get your hunger back. Sent from my SM-S908U using BariatricPal mobile app
  11. For me, never stop tracking and logging. I am terrible at mindful eating... Etc. so I have to log every morsel I eat and drink I sip. This alone brings me complete awareness to stay on track and/or alerts me if I need help. Sent from my SM-S908U using BariatricPal mobile app

    2 days til soft foods

Congrats on your surgery! If there was ever a countdown in my life that I looked forward to the most, it was the liquid to soft stage. Enjoy your quail eggs. [emoji106] Sent from my SM-S908U using BariatricPal mobile app
  13. I had the sleeve for many years, before my recent revision (gerd). Even in the end, I still had great restriction IF I followed the protein first rule. If I ate Mac and cheese, for example, instead of steak, there was still restriction about 1 to 1.5 cups but not even close to my pre surgery amount. 9 days out, 8 oz of soup?

Oh yeah, definitely. I was able to take in as much soup as I wanted so I had to make sure it was low salt and low calorie. Liquids (and some purees) run right through both the sleeve and RNY. Restriction hits when I moved to solids. Sent from my SM-S908U using BariatricPal mobile app
  15. I have lost count too. My body is really weird. I have "stalled" almost every month. It ranges from 10 days to 2 weeks. The longest for me so far is 15 days. Usually the first 2 weeks of the month, then I get a big drop. My 9th month now, and I just got the 4.5 lb drop at the end of April. Sent from my SM-S908U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Feeling fat after vsg

I know I suffer from Body dysmorphia. Good post. Relatable. I was just thinking the other day when someone told me I was thin, that inside I still feel as fat as I did when I was at my heaviest (2008). Maybe because I feel, at any given moment, I could cave into the abyss of mindless binge eating again and end up where I started. Sent from my SM-S908U using BariatricPal mobile app
  17. Question: Did you have the required psychological evaluation before your surgery? Legit or not, I wish you the best of luck. Whether it is trolling or real, both suggest that you need help. Sent from my SM-S908U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Did I screw up lol

I think you're fine. I think bariatric pal has some chili for the early stage. I had it because that was the most difficult part of the journey for me (other than pre-op diet) and it was pretty good. lol
  19. Okay. Gotcha. Maybe I'm being too cynical of them then. Before my surgery, my surgeon showed me a video of the exact procedure he was going to do, explained it to me in a diagram and drew it out. He told me that surgeons have different ways doing the procedure (limb length, pouch size... Etc.), and he told me the details of what he's going to do so there would be no surprises. That was the time I could ask all my questions. Anyway, congrats on your surgery!
  20. I agree with catwoman too (almost always do by the way lol.). I'm going on my 9th month, and my hunger has increased a bit but still doable but I am absolutely dreading the real fight that is in my near future.
  21. Wondering if they started with the sleeve since it's the most common WLS these days, realized their mistake and went bypass. Having said that, I had the VSG to bypass revision recently and asked a surgeon at the hospital how would it be different than the straight bypass and he said basically the same thing as your surgeon did. He said that with the sleeve, I already have far less ghrelin production than a normal stomach, so after the revision it'll be even more so. I couldn't find any studies online though.
  22. I was offered coffee at the hospital right after my surgery. My surgeon has no caffeine restriction neither did my previous surgeon. I have had coffee every day since with some unsweetened cashew, almond or oat milk splashed in it. Sent from my SM-S908U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Post-op tips/necessities

No recliner but I second the wedge. I had one handy due to years of gerd, and it made me so much more comfortable when I got home from my revision. I didn't like my hospital bed at all. Sent from my SM-S908U using BariatricPal mobile app
  24. I had to take pantoprazole and triamterene hctz, and they told me to take is that night after surgery.
  25. I told some people about my first surgery. I learned quickly that in the future to keep to myself and talk in forums like this where people are supportive. I didn't tell anyone but my husband about my revision and things are easier to stay on track without all the background noise. When asked what am I doing, I tell them about my logging, counting calories, getting enough liquid and protein, my exercise (or lack thereof) and relay all the hints that I've learned that has helped me stay on track or get back on track... Etc. I do NOT mention surgery due to people's prejudices and/or intense nagging by family members. So, in essence, I lie by omission.
