Do you see your surgeon annually?

Yes. Every year after my vsg surgery, I did two things: Full blood test and have a check up visit with my team including a barium swallow to check my sleeve. I was always paranoid I had stretched it. I will probably do the same now with my revision. Sent from my SM-N986U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Binge eating

Not for me. I can't eat more than a couple of ounces of solids without feeling immense pressure in my chest. I'm not only forced to eat sloooooowly (or else lol) and a little bit. The food party in my head is where it stays. 😂
  3. No dumping here but then again I don't eat cakes, candy, sweets. It basically (to me) feels the same as when I had the VSG except that there is far more restriction. I feel great.

    Juicing

No, not at all for me.

    Juicing

I usually try to get 1.5 servings of fruit per day and I always try to get some veggies in. Right now since I'm close to 7 weeks post-op revision to RNY, I am still keeping it in liquid form so I make a protein shake. I put a tablespoon of Genepro, baby spinach, 1/2 frozen banana, 4-6 strawberries (sometimes add plums and/or mango) with unsweetened almond milk (or lowfat kefir) and ice in a blender. Vegetables I've been either air frying zucchini or putting napa cabbage, spinach... Etc. in my broths.

    Fried foods

I tolerate it just fine but I avoid it. I just recently got a mini airfryer (for 2 people) and am love with it. I love the crispy but I don't want the extra wasted calories.
  7. No problem with sleeve recovery. A few days of gas (took GasX which helped tremendously), sore stomach feeling like you did a zillion sit-ups, and sleepiness is what I remember of that surgery. My mistake was that I had reflux before VSG, hence my reflux got much worse and I had to get a recent revision because of it. That side affect wasn't well known when I got my VSG like it is now. My sleeve was done by a conservative surgeon who made the pouch 10 ounces which is much bigger than most but it still affected my appetite and definitely affected how much I could eat at one sitting. One cup of food was always my max throughout the years. I recommend all WLS once you find which one suits your needs. They are a great tool. I always feel blessed that I had the option.
  8. Although my husband was with me at home, I didn't need his care at all. I think it is totally doable. I had an easy recovery though. Make sure you stay hydrated though because its easy to forget to keep drinking water and you don't want to end up dehydrated, dizzy... Etc. And be alone at home. Another thing that was somewhat bothersome for me is we can not carry anything heavy for 6 weeks or whatever your surgeon advises. If you get a heavy delivery, for example, perhaps a relative, friend, or neighbor can bring those inside. Good luck and you'll do fine.

    Straws

Current surgeon says after 3 months but I have already a few times. It causes me to burp but it is no biggy. Could be the straw. I have a steel straw, and it is super super narrow. Sent from my SM-N986U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Acid reflux/Gerd

Unfortunately, I lived that way for years and just recently got a revision from sleeve to rny because of it. If you haven't already, please see a doctor to see if they can help you. Maybe a PPI can help you. It is a hard way to live longterm. Sent from my SM-N986U using BariatricPal mobile app
  12. Easy recovery here (both VSG and revision to RNY for gerd) and I was so paranoid that every year I went in for a barium swallow to look at my sleeve. I kept thinking I stretched it or injured it blahblahblah even though I could never eat more than a cup, even years later lol. You're good. Once you hit solids, it'll be a whole different ballgame.

    2 week pre-surgery diet

From what I understand, as long as there are no bits and pieces, both are fully accepted. On my clear liquid diet which is more strict (I hated it lol), bone broth was encouraged. My favorite protein is Genepro. I even use it in my coffee lol.

    It feels too easy.

Sounds good to me. When people have pain drinking fluids, sometimes it is a red flag of something potentially wrong since liquids go right through all of us. I was like you with my VSG and I was that way right after my recent revision to RNY. I think the reason we hear about those having difficulty is because they are prone to write and ask about it here and I certainly don't blame them because for example, when I had a huge lump under one of my incisions, I mentioned it here. You're good. Congrats on your surgery!
  15. Sunny, I love your book recommendations. I am a bibliophile and yet I never read but one or two books on dieting or bariatric surgery. I've already purchased two of your recommendations and I was very happy that I did. Thank you.

    2 week pre-surgery diet

I was on a 10 day clear liquid diet so it is different than a regular liquid diet. I found this on the net and it is a good source for your liquid diet. "The 1-2 week pre-op diet will include the following elements: Protein shakes or meal replacement shakes will be the diet’s primary component. Only sugar-free beverages are allowed (sugar substitutes are okay). No caffeinated or carbonated beverages are permitted. Soup broth with no solid pieces of food may be consumed. V8 and vegetable juice are acceptable. Extremely thin cream of wheat or cream of rice may also be eaten. One or two daily servings of lean meat and/or vegetables might be okay, but only if they are approved by your surgeon or registered dietician." https://www.obesitycoverage.com/the-big-gastric-bypass-diet-guide/#pre-op

    Stall?

First off, stalls are frustrating. I've been at this game for a very long time so I understand the frustration and for me, I often felt so discouraged and was prone to going astray but just the fact that you are here, posting, you are on the right track. If you journal your intake, look at patterns or food groups, calories, carbs, fats and protein numbers. If your calories are still in a good range, maybe temporarily change your macronutrient balance. Sometimes having higher carbs breaks me out of a stall, and other times, higher protein... Etc. Our bodies really knows how to preserve itself when it thinks it is losing too much weight. Hang in there, and I'm glad I read your post. We are all in this together.

    Pre-op doubts

One can fast and incorporate good fats with no problem. Many VSG patients are on the keto diet and/or intermittent fasting. Surgeons each have their own philosophy about diet after WLS and they vary drastically. The one I like the best is Dr. Duc Vuong (Ultimate Gastric Sleeve Success). I also love his YouTube channel. I'm currently reading Dr. Weiner's (Pound of Cure) so I can't remark on that one yet but others have but so far, it's really enlightening. https://www.amazon.com/Ultimate-Gastric-Sleeve-Success-Practical/dp/0615830447
  20. My program doesn't have any coffee restrictions. If I wanted to I could've drank coffee up to 2 hours before surgery and right after.

    Pre-op doubts

If there is one common phrase that I have heard through all these years from WLS patients... It is "I wish I did it sooner." I echo that as well. I really wish I did it in my 20s except skip the lap band surgery because although I lost a ton of weight, it caused me years of esophagus problems. I would have gone straight to the sleeve or gastric bypass. So I think so. You have a wonderful and great start. Far better than most. You are on track and that is so admirable. Cheers to you, and good luck either way you decide.

    Energy

Bananas are always listed as an energy food due to their complex carbs, B vitamins and potassium. Sweet potatoes too. They are a complex carb and since our body digests it so slowly, you'll get a "steady supply of energy". Hope this helps.

WHERE ARE MY AUGUST 2021 PEEPS?

My team had me take one serving of Miralax in the morning during my 10 day pre-op and for awhile after. My pre-op was a 100% liquid diet. It helped and was very gentle.

WHERE ARE MY AUGUST 2021 PEEPS?

Genepro has been a lifesaver for me. I also have the Fruity Oh's flavor that I blend with my smoothies. Super light sweetness and blends well with almond milk unsweetened vanilla, fresh strawberries and bananas,

    I can't eat

I'm with catwoman7 on this one. I am loving not being obsessed about eating (especially late at night where I've always ran into problems in the past). I am dreading, although preparing, for the honeymoon period to end. Embrace it, just means your surgery is working. Contact your surgeon if you can't keep anything down, extreme nausea, breathing problems or fever... Etc.
