  1. According to my surgeon, I was allowed to eat fruits from the beginning but avoid the skins till month 3 or when easily tolerated. The first couple of months, I ate green apple sauce and smoothies with blended fruit. Sent from my SM-N986U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Potatoes 5 weeks out

I didn't, but mashed potatoes were on my list after the first week. Sent from my SM-N986U using BariatricPal mobile app
  3. The last six months I'm averaging 650-700 calories. My surgeon told me at my 3 month check up that 700 cal is too low to up it to 900-1000 cal but I can't wrap my head around it. 😢 I have this fear that if I go to 900 cal, it'll soon be 1000 cal, to 1200 cal... And more based on my history. I believe that I'll stay around 700 cal until I hit my goal and then increase it to the calorie amount necessary to maintain it. My appetite is still in check and had read that my appetite will increase at the 6 months to a year anyway. Riding the wave.

    Gastric bypass sleeve

I had the sleeve then due to reflux I had to get a revision to a gastric bypass. I wish I knew that gastric bypass is far more effective for me in regards to weight loss, no reflux and no bowel issues. I would've gone straight to having the gastric bypass. I haven't had any problem maintaining my nutrition. Like the others, I take my MV every day and calcium supplements if I don't get enough calcium from my diet. My sleeve was on the large side so if you do decide to go this route, ask your surgeon what size your stomach will be. Mine started off at 10 ounces. I never stretched it but it was difficult to maintain a calorie deficiency. With the bypass, everything seems so natural for me. I feel great, small amounts satisfy me and literally zero side effects as far as bowel, acid reflux... Etc. Hope this helps.
  5. I'm so sorry you are going through this. It sounds terrifying and painful. I had a revision from vsg to rny in August. My recovery was same or easier than with the vsg. I chewed Mylanta mini tabs to get rid of the excess gas after surgery. Physically, I don't feel different either except that my appetite is much less after RNY. All my issues were resolved after the revision (acid reflux, hunger problems... Etc.). I don't have any issues anymore, not bowel related or stomach related. So far (knock on wood ^^), it has been the best decision I've ever made concerning WLS.

    Chew

They told me 30 times but I have found that sometimes I have to chew more. After my revision to gastric bypass, I've found that if the food doesn't break down all the way by chewing (i.e. liquid), I won't swallow it, otherwise it has a high likelihood of getting me sick an hour later.
  7. I'm 10 lbs. from my new goal I set at the time of my surgery. Since my revision from VSG to RNY in August 2021, about 9 to 10 lbs. a month, and it doesn't seem to be slowing down. I've lost about 65 lbs. in 5 months.
  8. Not a breakfast eater as well. I get coffee in the morning with almond milk, sometimes I put a protein supplement (if I am low on protein the days prior) in it along with collagen supplement. When I do eat breakfast, I'm far more hungrier during the day so I usually don't eat will 1 pm or later. The forcing myself to eat breakfast went out the door when intermittent fasting became a thing.

    Eating out with strangers

The original post is thought-provoking to me. I was brought up that it was impolite to not accept or taste something if someone offered food to me, to eat something if we were all out to dinner at a party or event, to feel guilty for not finishing my food... Etc. As an overweight adult, I remember many times I sat across co-workers who were thin who would order for example, a rack of ribs and eat one or two and then say throw it away or pack it up, they didn't want it anymore. Many times, a thin friend would say let's go out to eat and then not even order anything but a cup of coffee lol. It was baffling since my world literally revolved around food. It isn't so much I care about what others think but am aware at how ingrained these teachings are in my mind due to family and upbringing. Up to now, I am still working with these issues. For example, my husband loves to cook, he will cook something, and it has taken me a long time in life to get to the simple statement of "Thanks, but I am not hungry but save me some for later". A statement so simple that most people would reply sure and not take it as a rejection and not give it any thought. Sent from my SM-N986U using BariatricPal mobile app
  10. So eating 700 calories a day, one is creating a calorie deficit of 7K calories per week, if their maintenance is around 1700 cal/day. That sounds about right depending how fast your metabolism or activity. If one wants to eat more then they have to burn 500 to 1000 calories more a day instead. For me to lose 2 lb/wk, without any additional exercise, I have to eat about 700 cal/day too.
  11. I'll give you an example of my meal going on 5 months. 2 ounces pork, 1 ounce brown rice. I could not nor did I want any more food for the next 4 hours. It feels like stomach restriction to me versus throat tightness of the lapband. If I don't chew well enough or eat too fast or too much, I do feel sick or I get the foamies. I have never dumped so I can't speak to that experience. But the foamies is very very similar to the lapband pressure but it lasts for hours on end instead of once and you are relieved. That is my personal experience.
  12. Been using genepro for years, you can't put it in either extreme cold or hot. For example, after I add some almond milk to my coffee, it mixes perfectly. Sent from my SM-N986U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Breakfast

I can't really eat anything until after I have coffee in the morning. If I try anything solid, I usually will get the foamies. It is very tight during the first few hours and I am going into my fifth month after RNY. My surgeon said to have warm tea or coffee in the morning to help. I put almond milk, collagen and sometimes protein powder. I don't miss breakfast since i was never a breakfast person either. Sent from my SM-N986U using BariatricPal mobile app
  14. I rarely use artificial sweeteners. If I really want something sweet, I use a drop or two of raw manuka honey.
  15. Sounds like foamies. I got those a lot the first couple of months, the pressure is sooo painful ugh. I'm going on my fifth month and rarely get them now. Dry meat gets me almost every time.

    This surgery is bullshit...

If your surgery wasn't working, you would be eating far more calories, similar to what got you to consider WLS in the first place. If you are truly eating 800 calories a day, then get a physical and find out if you have any serious medical issues that is preventing your body from losing weight. Maybe it is a thyroid issue or serious water weight due to kidneys... etc. Sent from my SM-N986U using BariatricPal mobile app
  17. Well, it was mandatory nutritionalist's visits for 3 months. Sorry for confusion. Sent from my SM-N986U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Weight Loss Stall

As long as you are only eating 700-800 calories a day as you posted, you definitely didn't waste your money. You will lose weight due to calorie deficit. Before surgery, I remember having a difficult time keeping under 1800 calories. I was a bad case of no control when it came to food before surgery. As others said, stalls are normal and your body is just adjusting. Changing up your diet is always good to try to, like upping protein as you said. It may be excess water weight.

Congrats! It's such a great feeling when it is all over. Sounds like you are on your way to a successful journey, both physically and mentally.

    I Finally Threw Up

I throw up when I eat too much, or too fast or when I don't chew well enough. I'm on a balanced diet (i.e. plenty of carbs but mainly from fruits). For health reasons, I try to have grains almost every day. I have rice often but only one ounce at a meal. Every body is different though, some can't tolerate starches or fat or sugar... Etc.
  22. I really love Mylanta gas minis tabs in assorted fruit. Tastes good to me, they are super tiny and work very well.
  23. I thought the same thing before any WLS. I had an appt with my surgeon last week and he told me to eat more. To try to get to 900 cal. I am still eating about 600 cal. It is still mindblowing to me to be honest. I begin each meal like I could eat tons but after a couple of bites, it is over lol. In a few more months, my appetite and capacity will go up anyway so for now I am just riding the wave. Sent from my SM-N986U using BariatricPal mobile app
  24. Oh yeah, the only side effect I truly felt after my RNY was a sore throat. After a couple of days, it subsided. Sent from my SM-N986U using BariatricPal mobile app
  25. Sounds to me you are on the right path. The first month stalls due to water weight and the body's adjustments are very common. Restriction came a little later for me when I got to solid foods and my body was competed healed. Sent from my SM-N986U using BariatricPal mobile app
