  1. I agree with catwoman too (almost always do by the way lol.). I'm going on my 9th month, and my hunger has increased a bit but still doable but I am absolutely dreading the real fight that is in my near future.
  2. Wondering if they started with the sleeve since it's the most common WLS these days, realized their mistake and went bypass. Having said that, I had the VSG to bypass revision recently and asked a surgeon at the hospital how would it be different than the straight bypass and he said basically the same thing as your surgeon did. He said that with the sleeve, I already have far less ghrelin production than a normal stomach, so after the revision it'll be even more so. I couldn't find any studies online though.
  3. I was offered coffee at the hospital right after my surgery. My surgeon has no caffeine restriction neither did my previous surgeon. I have had coffee every day since with some unsweetened cashew, almond or oat milk splashed in it. Sent from my SM-S908U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Post-op tips/necessities

No recliner but I second the wedge. I had one handy due to years of gerd, and it made me so much more comfortable when I got home from my revision. I didn't like my hospital bed at all. Sent from my SM-S908U using BariatricPal mobile app
  5. I had to take pantoprazole and triamterene hctz, and they told me to take is that night after surgery.
  6. I told some people about my first surgery. I learned quickly that in the future to keep to myself and talk in forums like this where people are supportive. I didn't tell anyone but my husband about my revision and things are easier to stay on track without all the background noise. When asked what am I doing, I tell them about my logging, counting calories, getting enough liquid and protein, my exercise (or lack thereof) and relay all the hints that I've learned that has helped me stay on track or get back on track... Etc. I do NOT mention surgery due to people's prejudices and/or intense nagging by family members. So, in essence, I lie by omission.
  7. It definitely isn't fun. I had an all clear juice diet for my pre op diet. I drank so much white grape juice. lol Good luck, you can do it. Sent from my SM-S908U using BariatricPal mobile app
  8. Years ago I was stuck at an airport and tried these. I don't usually like sweets but love chips and was apprehensive. Omg, it was so good lol. The salty and sweet were perfectly balanced. Sent from my SM-S908U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Face & wrinkles

Over 60 here and I don't look older except that well, I am old already lol. I just look thinner, perhaps more gaunt, tired. I think months of low calorie diets do that in general. I recently went back to having a vial of sculptra in my cheek area which has always helped me. I put it off for a few years. All I needed was one vial as per the dermatologist. After 4 to 5 weeks, I don't have that tired look anymore. Sent from my SM-S908U using BariatricPal mobile app
  10. I was able to sit up and be pretty much normal by the 3rd day but as others have noted, everybody is different. The pain I felt throughout the week was mostly incision pains which would've been doable for a 4 hour flight. The long walks at the airport though is something I would hesitate to do but then again the next morning after my surgery when I went home I had to walk a long way to get to our car (huge hospital and parking lot), and I was okay. Good luck and congrats to your upcoming surgery.

    Help with protein

I love making silken tofu soup. I get a tofu sauce base packet, add some water, and a pack of silken tofu and it is so good.

    Laxatives

Once I got past the first few months post-op, I started putting 1 tsp of miralax in my coffee every morning. That little bit has helped me keep regular. Every now and then, I may put it in my evening tea/coffee if I feel I need it.
  13. I went from the lapband to VSG to RNY. Revisions were mandatory due to serious side effects from the previous WLS. I wish I went straight to RNY but hindsight is 20/20, I guess. I was in the minority that got severe gerd from the VSG. I had my revision to RNY at 60+ years old, and it has been a great experience, both in feeling better physically and weight loss.

    Help with protein

Tofu and beans are good at the pureed level and after. They are high in protein. Another thing good protein source that I really like is PB powder. I would suggest peanut butter but it is high in fat, albeit good fat. I put PB powder in my smoothies, yogurt... Etc.

    Trying again...

Congrats. I think you are making a big step in the right direction. I would ask the surgeon what procedures he/she does. Some surgeons only do the sleeve for example. It's good to know that upfront before they suggest what type of surgery is best for you. Ask all your questions and discuss your fears and concerns with them to get a good feel of your trust in your future surgeon. I had to go to a few before I trusted a surgeon enough. Happy and excited for you to begin your journey.
  16. Mine took a few years to develop after the sleeve. Even then, I kept switching different PPIs, H2 blockers for a few years after that. I recently had the revision to RNY this past August. I'm sorry that I waited so long to have the revision. The revision helped me a lot. Better sleep due to no severe gerd keeping me up, physically it feels the same as the sleeve but no gerd, and I have far better weight control. I'm sorry you are having to go through this. Most don't get this side effect of the sleeve but unfortunately we both did.

    Not doing good

This saddens me. I recently suffered a great loss as well. I am so sorry you had to go through this. If you are able to, I hope you can reach out to those close to you, and/or a therapist to help you with all of this. Sent from my SM-S908U using BariatricPal mobile app
  18. I had the sleeve done about 7 years ago as an outpatient. Went home a few hours later. I recently had a revision to RNY for gerd back in August. I spent one night and left the next morning.
  19. Yeah, same here Take out, delivery, eat out. All the above. Many fast food chains and restaurants have decent choices. If they don't, portion control ftw. Sent from my SM-S908U using BariatricPal mobile app
  20. Have you thought of revision to VSG or another surgery? Unfortunately without restriction, it'll be very difficult for you.I know because I was one of the unlucky ones that if there is an extreme side effect with a WLS, I would fall in that category... Lapband (erosion) and VSG (severe gerd, esophagitis). Surgeons have stressed that it was no fault of my own. It just happens. I finally had a revision to RNY and feel so much better. Tracking food helped me before my revisions. While I had some weight gain, it wasn't too much. Looking at the list of food in my food diary always helps me realize it is head hunger vs real hunger. 21. My family did. Especially my mom. I have a huge family... None of them were overweight. They were all thin. I am the outlier in my entire family. I had really annoying comments from men throughout my life like "I love big girls." Etc. That bothered me far more. Ugh. Sent from my SM-S908U using BariatricPal mobile app
  22. I absolutely have to track every morsel and drop. I simply don't trust myself at all due to years of eating disorders. I do like to use a couple of apps that help with my eating disorders. One of them is RR eating disorder management that is very helpful in handling my EDs. Sent from my SM-S908U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Foamies

Yes, yes. Exactly. Most of my foamies probably could've been avoided. Early on I wasn't used to eating super slow, chewing a LOT. For me, it was a steep learning curve. I also was hell bent on trying to eat fruits with skin on them like cherries or grapes /cry lol.
  24. I just had a revision from vsg to rny because of gerd. I didn't get gerd until quite a few years after my vsg. I believe most don't get gerd until a few years later or longer. Also, towards the end, no medication worked hence I had to undergo a revision. Before that, I was switched to every kind of ppi, H2 blocker, anti acids available. Nothing we worked anymore. It got so bad that I was sleep deprived, and it was effecting my work, and I had constant burning in my esophagus. I was warned that if I didn't fix it, I was putting myself in danger for esophageal cancer. I am not trying to add fear about the vsg. It is a wonderful procedure but some of us, unfortunately, experienced the worst side effect of the vsg, and that is severe gerd and esophagitis. According to studies approximately 35% get it and I fell into that category. There are many on this site who have had no issues with the sleeve after 7+ years. 25. Lost all my excess weight after revision from vsg to rny, and it was faster for me. I had to do it for gerd. Sent from my SM-S908U using BariatricPal mobile app
