  1. Thank you the info. I am so glad you are okay after having to go through that. The pain sounds horrible!
  2. I am approaching my 1 year anniversary since my revision and I really wish my doctor gave me this medicine. I was lucky and didn't need it (yet) but it's was worrisome for me because I have read it is a common problem after WLS. Every time I felt a pain, I thought "Oh no, it must be my gallbladder!"😅

    Fruits

My surgeon is avid about me getting 6 to 8 servings of fruit and vegetables a day. From the beginning he pushed it. Having said that, if you do decide to eat fruit this early on, avoid the ones with peels like grapes, apples and even cherries because I remember a couple of times I had a bad case of foamies because those darn little skins (even after chewing forever on them) getting caught up in my throat.
  4. Congrats to you upcoming surgery and to the beginning of your journey. You will be able to live a relatively normal life eating wise, enjoying your food, but usually after all the phases and yes, the majority of WLS do experience a big appetite reduction.

    Diet

Every doctor has their own pre and post op food plan. My pre-op was 10 days on a clear liquid diet (strained fruit juices like apple, cranberry juice or white grape juice with no added sugar, jello, vegetable juices, and broth). It was sheer torture lol.

What are your go to meals?

I have two main go-to foods in this past year. First, I meal prep a tamarind based vegetable soup. Loaded with all kinds of vegetables. Low calorie, nutritious. Then when I reheat a bowl, I will sometimes add protein to it. Like you, it is mainly seafood but sometimes I add beef or pork. One of my favorite ways to eat fish is airfried. I will eat that on the side with my soup. My second go to I make every week is a greek yogurt dip (high protein type) that varies with ingredients but usually with dill, parsley, cucumbers, garlic, red onions, pickle juice...etc. I eat it with air popped rice crackers. My snacks are almost always fresh fruit. Plums, strawberries, cherries... Etc.
  7. I had to have an endoscopy and an upper GI done to check my stomach pre-surgery.
  8. Fruit is excellent for your vitamin C. I especially second the soup suggestion. It will help you keep hydrated while you are sick. I eat soup almost every day. Helps with both the hunger (especially on those bottomless pit days) and hydration for me.

    Telling others

I don't tell anyone anything, in general. I am a very private person.
  10. I am below my ideal weight. Today I was 117.2 lbs and my ideal weight is 130.1 lbs. I used to have 140 lbs. my goal (for 5'3") but somewhere I lost an inch in height at my surgeon's office a couple of months ago lol. So I moved my IBW to 130 lbs. I figure, I'll rebound some weight sooner or later since the majority of WLS rebound 10 to 20 lbs. something like that. Up to now, I really don't know what my final goal is either.

    Stalls - How many

I guess I should define big drop lol. Maybe it isn't a big drop to anyone else. I never had huge expectations. I'm just thankful for the opportunity to get WLS. My weight loss is correlated with whatever my calorie deficit was for that given month, and has been relatively accurate. So last month, for example, I cut -500 cal/ day and my "big drop" at the end of the month was ~4 lbs. I'm kindasorta moving into maintenance. In the first few months I was cutting -800 to 1000 cal/day (or more) and my drop would be 7 to 9 lbs. at the end of the month. Whatever the case, my body takes a couple of weeks to adjust before deciding to let the weight go. So I don't really classify it as a stall per se.

    Stalls - How many

Like others, it depends on how you define "stall". Every month from the start I went 10 days to a couple of weeks without weight loss and then a big drop. I'm still doing that. I don't see it as a stall. My body is just adjusting. For example, if I drank a lot more water the day before or I had more pickles (salt aka water retention). I love tracking my food too so as long as my calories were low, I know it is just a matter of time. Even people who are bed ridden need over 1000 calories just to survive. For me, I think I would be far more anxious if I didn't track calories though. Seeing low calories day in and day out gives me comfort so I don't have to worry. It's very calming. Excessive worrying just causes cortisol spikes and weight gain. Sent from my SM-S908U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Post Op Coffee

any way* (hate my typos and I can't edit on my phone posts) I forgot to add that almond milk unsweetened vanilla also makes my coffee taste yummy. However, Silk Cashew milk is my favorite. Only 25 cal a cup. I use it for everything once my protein goals are met. Otherwise I use Fairlife milk (high protein) is I need more protein. I can't drink black coffee either. I wish but I can't. 15. Your dietician may be right about hair loss and collagen but she is wrong about calling it empty calories. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6835901/ Sent from my SM-S908U using BariatricPal mobile app
  16. My salad world opened up when I had Waldens Chipotle Ranch dressing and their Creamy Bacon dressing. The Thousands Island is good too. I always have a few bottles of the first two on hand. Sent from my SM-S908U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Post Op Coffee

I have the bypass, and I can drink my coffee anyway that I want. I have about 2 to 3 cups a day. Sometimes with milk and other times with cashew milk. So yummy. Sent from my SM-S908U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Failure with the lap band

First thing I would do is get an upper GI to check your band and have them see if you need a fill (or unfill). During that visit, talk to the surgeon or dietician there. Sent from my SM-S908U using BariatricPal mobile app
  19. Ahhh true true. When covid hit, I had the hardest time getting the supplies that I needed. We all did. Tough times. I always have so many paper towels now lol. Now when I really like something, I hoard it. Sent from my SM-S908U using BariatricPal mobile app

  22. Ahhh the life post-op for some of us. Thank you for responding. It helps to know I'm not alone about over buying either. 😵
  23. I suggested this to a relative a few months ago. She had gained back a lot of her weight due to stretching her pouch after many years. I think she had the RNY about 20 years ago. Her health is poor and I know it's a very safe procedure from what I read. Good to know it has worked for you, thank you! I'll pass on the word.

    opinions

I agree with the previous comments. I think there comes a time when each of us who have had surgery realize that we need a reliable tool or we will continue on a dangerous path. I played with the idea for far too long but now at 60 something, I have zero regrets on any of my WLS surgeries. I would do it over and over to stay off medications, be healthy and less self-conscious. Good luck, we're here for you!
