  1. I didn't have much pain in either the vsg or revision. I didn't even bother taking the pain meds after the first day in both cases. I just took otc Tylenol. Only because I can't handle the groggy feeling. The gas pains back then (vsg) was a bit painful but just walk, walk, walk it off if you can and take gas relieving otc meds. My surgeon suggested gasx strips but I like mylanta mini fruit chews.

    Hiccups

Common for me in the first few months. Even now, I have to make sure I chew really well and never overeat. Hiccups, runny noses, foamies... It was a rather steep learning curve to master my body signals.

    Hunger Day of Surgery

I think it is normal. One, you haven't really eaten. You are going to feel hungry. Liquid phase is also difficult because liquids pass right though you so there is very little satiety during that phase. Once you heal and you move on to more solid foods, you may feel hungry but a very small amount of protein will satisfy you. Give it time. Congrats on your step in the right direction and good luck on your journey.
  4. My revision was virtually painless. I had no pain, no problems, no side effects and the restriction is everything I have always wanted. My surgeon was excellent though. I wasn't even in the hospital 24 hrs.
  5. Ghee, butter, avocados, healthy fats, full fat cheeses and dairy are your friends. Doesn't take much full fat cheese to add up those calories quickly. Don't forget nuts. Almonds 1/4c are a whopping 170 calories. Peanut butter smoothies can be super fattening but healthy and delicious.

    Pre op panic!

Tell your doctor and be honest to exactly how, when, what, and why you cheated on your pre-op. He/she/they can decide whether they can go forward from there. Better to decide now vs after they open you up. I had a very strict clear liquid pre-op diet.

    Feeling Defeated

Yes, I believe most of us felt that way because pre-op is THE most miserable part of the process. To stay on such a strict diet without our tool is honestly the most difficult part of our journey. You are doing really great. Props for sticking to it. Hang in there, it won't be long.

    Lap band questions

I remember fills being 0.1 ml, or 0.2 ml increments... Etc. You probably just needed a 0.1 to 0.2 ml fill. I am glad you are feeling better though.

    Lap band questions

If you still can't keep anything down without gurgling, you were overfilled.
  10. Revision from vsg to rny here. Yet again, I didn't use anything. I had surgery, slept, woke up, walked around, slept again, went home first thing in the morning. I basically brought a baggy dress that just slides over my head, comfortable walking shoes and a small pillow to hug, just in case of a bumpy ride home. Of course, I always bring phone, wallet with ID... etc.

    Sleeping

After my vsg, I slept in the bed as usual. i am not a stomach sleeper but a side sleeper. After my rny revision, I slept with a wedge, but mainly cause I had one. I don't think you need a recliner. I have been thinking about a tummy tuck, so I guess I'll have to cross that post-op sleeping crossroads when I get to it. It doesn't sound pleasant! lol
  12. I think you will both be fine, the majority do not get severe gerd. I just wanted to correct the OP's doctor's statement that it can be avoided through diet. The minority of us who were unlucky and got gerd was not due to a failure on our part but the sleeve itself. Also, when I had my sleeve, it was about 7 years ago and from what I have read, the procedure has evolved some. Maybe discuss this with your surgeons. In the article, scroll down to "what is a perfect SG to prevent gerd". https://nyaspubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/nyas.14467
  13. I don't think it can be avoided. Some people get gerd after vsg and others do not. But, people who do get gerd after vsg, it is not their fault. Unavoidable. Of course if you eat right before going to bed, it doesn't help the matter but here is a good link that explains in layman's terms why 35% vsg patients get gerd. https://sampadocs.com/2019/12/23/reflux-after-gastric-sleeve/ Here is another very recent study if you would like to read it. It goes into the 3 reasons which contributes to gerd post-vsg, one reason is the shape of the sleeve. It is a hot topic now. https://www.jnmjournal.org/journal/view.html?uid=1643&vmd=Full

    New, Dazed and Confused

RNY here. Revised over a year ago from VSG due to severe gerd. I don't dump, I believe most don't and can be avoided if you do, as@catwoman7 said. Maybe that's why I don't dump, I don't really have a sweet tooth. Not sure but it isn't as common as people think. I can take any medication except NSAIDs (same with VSG, I believe). I really have no negative things to say about the RNY. It has been an extremely positive experience for me. Both surgeries are excellent though and congrats on the beginning of your journey.
  16. The antibody restriction was for everyone. No one can get antibiotics that often anymore due to the increasing problem of antibiotic resistance. Usually doctors would only ok a prescription every 3 months to any of their patients. I haven't had one since my revision. Going on 15 months now, not a sign of it. Thanks for the tip about D-mannose. I hope to never get them as often like I did for years post vsg, pre revision. That was miserable. I never linked it to my vsg though until after I get my revision and they totally disappeared. Makes me wonder.
  17. In the first month or so, I experienced this too but it went back to normal in the later months (thank goodness).
  18. That's right. So strange. I had the most difficult time getting treatment because how often they occurred. "Too soon for another prescription for antibiotics..." Etc. Over 1 yr. 2 months now, not one UTI (I would've had 3 or 4 in that time frame pre-revision. I have no idea why the sleeve gave me constant UTIs. Never heard of it nor read about it so at the time, I didn't think it was connected. I honestly didn't think it was the sleeve until a couple of months after my revision, I was like... Wait, what happened to my constant UTIs? So glad there is someone else out there that can identify with me.
  19. I eat a ton of spicy things. I even eat ghost pepper beef sticks. I eat Thai chili peppers (the small red and green ones) with most of my meat dishes. No issue with heat whatsoever. No diet restrictions from my surgeon in regards to spicy things either.

    SO SCARED

My experience as well. My hair loss didn't start till 5th or 6th month. Lots of shedding after this particular surgery. None with the previous surgeries. I thought I was in the clear too.

    Am I weird?

No, not weird at all. I think most are like that. I understand there are those that have been raised in a very judgemental environment, some brutally so, and I don't blame them for not telling anyone. For myself, I am a very private type of person. No one's business but my own. I'm an introvert, most extroverts don't understand me. I don't like nor need attention, and I don't care if they think I am boring or antisocial because I don't share pictures on Facebook... Etc. They don't understand that I prefer a good book, enjoy time alone versus socializing. People judge us introverts all the time. They oversimplify and think we are hiding something, when it is just our personality. I'm not afraid what others will think if I tell them anything, nor am I shy nor lonely. Some people, like myself, are very comfortable not telling anyone anything about our personal business. Perhaps because I would rather sit and have dinner in peace and quiet.
  22. Veggie burger. I air fried the veggie burger with garlic infused olive oil, and then after it was cooked, I put the sourdough with it till it was toasted. 138g in weight total. I would usually finish it but stopped early. I guess I shouldn't haven eaten a couple of slices of green apple a half hour earlier.

    Foot shrinkage :O

Size didn't change too, but normal width now. I remember looking at some pictures when I was around 295ish, and thought wow, even my feet even look fat. Looked like my tennis shoes were stuffed sausages. Not just my feet but my fingers, hands, wrists, neck and unfortunately, I lost a lot of facial volume.
  24. I'm not tall nor super active. I stayed around 800 to 900 calories to goal (about 6 to 7 months), been adding 100 calories every month or two till I get to maintenance. I lost 3 lbs. last month so I upped it another 100 at the beginning of this month. I calorie count (monthly average) and my diet consists of the required protein (mainly from seafood, legumes, soy, dairy) and then 6-7 servings of fruits/veg a day.
  25. My lunch. Black bean taco with fat free sour cream, lettuce, cabbage, hot sauce, red onions on a flour tortilla. 151 calories, total weight 158 grams. Ate it all. It was yummy.
