    Pre-Op Diet Support Thread :)

I don't start my pre-op diet for a while. However, I thought I'd try out the sample of Unjury Chocolate Splendor protein powder I'd ordered today. It was very good, to my surprise. I purchased Unjury because I am lactose intolerant and it had lots of good reviews.

    Welcome, Feb Bandsters!

Kate, I guess I have the same concerns as a lot of people. "I've failed in the past. Can I do it with the lb?" While a part of me is very certain I can do it, there's also, a little part of me that's worried. But like Cynthia, this is about getting well for me. I have diabetes, sleep apnea, a low thyroid, etc. I'm exhausted all the time. And, I just don't feel good... I know that losing weight will help me to feel better physically, as well as give me a boost emotionally. For the first time in many years, I'm certain that a very positive change is coming. I'm glad to have others that are going through the same journey!

    Welcome, Feb Bandsters!

I'm Felicia. I live in Michigan. Like Dave, I have surgery tentatively scheduled for February 19. At my heaviest, I was 275. I'm at 244 now. My goal weight is 135. I've struggled with the decision to have wls for years. I'm finally at peace with the decision and can't wait! Like many others, I have concerns about what happens after surgery. However, I know I'm in a much different space than in the past as far as weight loss is concerned. That being said, I also realize that I need the assistance that the lb can offer in my journey. Good luck to everyone! We can do this!!!

    Dance Central 3

I bought an Xbox 360 specifically to play Dance Central. I love it!!! It's the only way to exercise that I find fun. I haven't bought 2 or 3 yet. But, it's on my list.

    Any February 2013 Bandsters?

Kateeryn, I attend a local support group once a month. (I've attended twice and one of the first time was their Christmas party.) However, my family isn't close by and I don't have friends nearby. That's why I joined the forum. I want the support, and to offer support to others going through this journey. It's difficult going through something like this alone.

    sleep apnea

I've read that Sleep Apnea goes away with weight loss. I hope so. I can't wait to sleep without a Bi-Pap machine!

Hairstyles may keep some black women from exercise

I think there's a complicated history of hair care and black women. Have you seen the documentary "Good Hair" by Chris Rock? It's a very funny, but accurate portrayal of African-American women and the hair care industry. I began wearing my hair naturally (partially) due to having extreme night-sweats. I'd roll my hair at night, only to have soaking wet hair in the morning. And while I love wearing my hair naturally, there are many African-American who would never consider doing so. Seems like self-esteem issues are connected to hair... A little more complicated than it appears, I think,

    New Here

Hi, I'm new as well. I've considered wls for many years. Recent health concerns made me decide that it's a very good time to get it done. I've been reading the threads and found them to be very helpful. So far, I've found the forum to be more informative than the support groups I've attended. I've attended two bariatric support groups so far. I had the first appointment with my surgeon on Dec. 3rd. I've had an endoscopy and completed the psych eval. Now, I'm (impatiently) waiting to hear from my surgeon's office regarding a surgery date and a nutritionist appointment. I can't wait! How long does it usually take to get a surgery date?
