  1. I have two dogs, eight year old Huey, and two year old Chica. Chica is very high-strung. Since I live alone, I left them at the boarding facility that my vet runs for one week following my surgery on 2/19/13. I was worried that Chica would jump on me. It's her usual method of greeting me. But when I picked her and Huey up, she was calm. Upon our return home, the first thing she did was sniff my stomach. Whenever she started to get to energetic, I let her smell my stomach and she'd settle down. I knew I was progressing well when I pulled up my shirt for her to sniff my tummy and she looked at me like I was crazy! :D

  2. I use clear soluble Fiber, the generic equivalent of Benefiber. I take one TBS daily in Water. (No added taste to the Water and it dissolves well.) It works great! BTW, I have combination Irritable Bowel Syndrome, which means I deal with Constipation and diarrhea. The clear soluble fiber helps with both.

  3. Anxiety issues aren't logical. All of a sudden the things that you've been doing for years can cause you to feel like you are choking, or your heart may feel like it's beating too fast. Or as in your case, you may feel sick to the stomach. Anxiety can manifest in many ways.

I was a therapist for years. I've also, had an anxiety disorder for years. In addition, I've dealt with having agoraphobia. While I'm doing a lot better now, there are still times when I have anxiety issues.

Talking with your doctor, or a therapist, can help you get a handle on things. It may be that the anxiety you are experiencing is a temporary emotional reaction to learning to live with your band. Or, it may be an anxiety disorder. The only way to know for sure what it is and how to deal with it is to consult a professional. If it is an anxiety disorder, your symptoms may worsen without help. You sound like a very strong, independent woman. Just remember, even strong women need help from time to time.

  4. Has anyone had anxiety attacks after being banded? Prior to the mushie stage my last night of liquid which I was very excited for, in the middle of the night I was awaken from deep sleep by an anxiety attack. I've never had this before. The next night fine then tonight after eating I was relaxing while watching a comedy show and suddenly my heart started racing and I went into a full blown attack. I'm calling the Dr on Monday but wanted to see if this may be common?

I have an anxiety disorder. I did notice an increase in anxiety for a week or so following surgery. It was a major life change. So, I expected that there would be more anxiety following it. I am on Buspar for anxiety and just made sure I took my medication regularly. Is it possible that you had an undiagnosed anxiety issue prior to surgery? I haven't had a full blown attack in a while. However, I know the symptoms and take measures to relax when those symptoms appear.

  5. While I want to wear a size 12 again, my goals are to get rid of my Bi-Pap machine (Hate the mask), having more energy, and being able to take my dogs for long walks. I already have more energy than I had prior to my surgery on 2/19. I'm looking forward to the rest. :)

  6. This is day 13 post-op for me. I have 4 - 6 small meals each day. From the beginning, I tried to make sure I never went over one cup. So far, that has worked for me. I haven't had a fill and don't anticipate having one until next month. i think the lapband works. I just think it takes a lot of work on your own until you hit the green zone.

  7. You may already know all of this...

What time of day do you take Nexium? And, do you take it daily? When I was having episodes at night, my doc told me to make sure I took the medication at bedtime. In addition, the medication should be taken daily, even when there are no symptoms.

  8. Hey all! Today I am one week post op and have lost a total of 23.1 lbs, with only about 3.1 being after surgery. I felt like superwoman up until last night because I literally felt no hunger. I had to force myself to drink my Protein shakes! Then all of a sudden I was so incredibly hungry so I had some Soup and drank some Water and it got a little better.

Thanks to all the veterans on here I have managed not to panic that I haven't lost weight like I did during the pre op diet, but it seems I've been a little over eager and optimistic about returning to the gym, etc. I am just worn out! I was wondering if anyone had any good tips on getting through these first few weeks without a fill. When did you start going to the gym post op?

I was banded on 2/19. I lost 20 lbs prior to surgery (ten of that on the pre-op) and have lost 2 lbs since for a total of 22 lbs. Like you, I got very hungry yesterday and had felt weak for the past few days. So, I blended a cream of mushroom soup with chicken broth and ate that for lunch and again for dinner. It was filling and I felt I had more energy.

  9. There are several couples in the local Bariatric Support group that I attend. Most of the couples are one who has had wls with their spouse going to the groups to support them. Maybe attending a local support group with you might help your spouse to better understand your weight loss journey.

  10. I understand your frustration. I started the pre-op even though I wasn't approved at that time. It was three days before surgery when I received the approval. I was anxious and feeling like I had wasted money using the Protein Shakes too early. Of course, stress made me wonder if I was going to backslide on the diet. Hang in there! Even if you are not approved as soon as you'd like, the pre-op dieting is helping you to prepare for surgery and the post-op diet.
