it usually does not go beyond this thread...but if something comes up that we think should go out to a larger audience, we at times do post in a general forum so more folks can see and respond.

Well great....'cause that's what we are on this thread. Friends.
So you know....I've had zero issues with the band. I've gotten stuck a few times, had sliming/productive burping, all that fun stuff....but no GERD, slippage, erosion...all the stuff they talk about. I'm not saying it's because I follow the rules...but truth is...I follow the rules... I know folks on the boards, and in my real life who eat and drink around the band. Some of them have issues...and many of them gain the weight back.
I'm almost four years out and I can tell you....just like any other weight loss plan we follow...maintenance is the hardest part. Every day, I have to make choices. The band does not stop me from eating poorly nor does is always stop me from overeating. I have to avoid temptation same as I always tried. Most of the time, I do fine. Sometimes..I do not. As long as I make the right choice most of the time, I'm good.

Hi and welcome. Technically we are not a closed forum but those who follow this thread...and those who post, have been doing so for several years as this is the 7th thread we've started. You're welcome to chime in but know that most of us who are still here, just post personal things...and not necessarily weight loss/weight issues related.
Did you have any particular issue or question to pose as a banded person? There are very few of us on here anymore and that does make it hard for folks with band-specific questions and issues. We'll be happy to help if we can.

Nice to hear from you Debbie. Sorry about the job situation but it sounds like the kids are well and your weight is under control. Me on the other hand...I'm struggling with the weight. It's good stuff...I'm in a great relationship and I admit that I'm having fun with food. I work hard mid week to be very careful about what I eat but when we're together on the weekends, I'm eating out and no matter how careful I am, it's still food that's higher in salt and fat and it shows. I was 127 lbs. just before we met and I am now struggling to stay under 140 lbs. He's not trying to sabotage me...I have to be strong and say no to eating out all weekend long. We're just having so much fun together....it's hard to stop the eating out part as it's alot of what we like to do. Not to worry though...I won't fall off the wagon though I've stumbled a bit.
Julie...honey, all I can say is the anticipation is worse than the actual day. Change it up if at all possible and try to make new traditions if you can. All I know is that I worked almost completely off gut feelings those first few years. If it felt OK, I did it, and if it felt not OK, I didn't...even if it meant changing things up last minute. I spent my first Christmas season with the kids of course, but went somewhere else so we were not doing what we had done when Alan was alive. I don't know that you can do the same thing, but it helped me to do something completely different. Just know that I understand as do lots of people dealing with loss. It's just so hard when the loss is so new and raw. You know you are in my thoughts...

Wow what an amazing story. Your life sounds exhausting and impossibly full. Thank you for sharing it.
You know what stood out to me the most in the whole thing? Not that you went to the store and bought things you will regret sooner or later but that you WALKED there. I don't know your situation or whether you walked to the store when you were at your heaviest but for me the idea of walking anywhere was not on my radar for a good few years. Now I am loving walking again.
I don't suppose walking to the gas station burned enough calories to cover the ice cream sandwich ... but I don't think one slip is going to make a difference in the long run.
Others have provided some great advice which I can't really add to so I will just say I hope things turn out right for you and thank you for sharing
Please let us know what your other grades are when they are posted. I for one would really love to know. I am rooting for you to survive this and be able to continue on with your scholarship

Make an appointment with your doctor and see if you need an adjustment. Then start to track your food and get in some exercise...even if it's just walking the neighborhood. Just as long as you are doing some moving...

Hello all. I apologize if my comment find a man was taken the wrong way. I have received some good counseling from my bride on how that comment could have been taken out of context. My context was in a pure physical sense, keeping with the theme of chilling out and relaxing.
We all cope with things differently. As you are a type A+, I am somewhere between a type Q and R, and maybe I need some of that type A drive every now and then. Hang in there and try not to stress so much. I lost a wife to cancer when she was 36 and I was 38. I know what pressure is with 2 kids at the time at 13 and 15. We had some stressful days, but I always figured some how we would get by. Kids both graduated college and I was lucky enough to find love a second time as my bride and I will Celebrate our 10 th anniversary in March. Hang in there. Again, the find a man line was not meant to be derogatory. Peace. Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah and happy new year.

that is a very interesting proposition and as a person who works with data and metrics, I'd really like to see the data for failed lap bands and review for commonalities. @@Alex Brecher, what do you think about some data analysis? Not just for bands, but for all surgeries?

@B-52...speak to your surgeon and have him/her put the port behind the abdominal muscle as I noted I had done. The bump is almost completely gone. The only issue is that fills can be a little more painful as the needle is going through the muscle and usually does not for most patients.

    You look great.
I'm almost four years out from being banded as well. I've gained back about 20 lbs. from where I was most comfortable, but surprisingly, I've heard from others that I look better with a little more meat on my bones. I'm working on losing at least 10 of those 20 lbs. That should make me feel better about where I am.

I'm no therapist but it's obvious from the poster here that obesity is the end product of often very dysfunctional childhoods and resulting bad choices as adults. It just happened to take the form of food addiction rather than alcohol or drugs.
While I was fortunate enough to have had a better childhood and had a very good life overall, my go-to choice whenever stress or anger or disappointment or pretty much anything upset me, was food. Period, end of story. Believe me...no one my height of five foot nothing gets to weigh nearly 300 lbs. just because she likes to eat.

If the decision is to meet up on the 17, I'd like to join. Lisa...I'd need to ask if you can pick me up at the nearest LIRR station though. Let me know if that's do-able.
Corey already said it would work fine because I would take the train to Woodside instead of coming back into the city, and then we can take the 7 train back to Flushing to meet up with my girlfriend.
