    Post-Op Complications???

Shelli16465 I am from your area! :clap2: You are the first person I have ran across that is somewhat local to me. I live outside of Warren but am from Erie. I have my preop consult on April 12th with Dr. Ali at Hamot. What doctor are you planning on going to?

    My Consult and date!!

Awesome LeslieLee! I have my first appt on April 12th and am going nuts just waiting. I am really hoping to have my surgery in July/August. I have met almost all of the requirements by my insurance except 5% weight loss before hand and the psych eval which I am sure will be a breeze:faint: Hearing your news gets me so excited!!! I can't wait:clap2:

    Who Drinks soda?

LauraJ23, I hear you!! I am preop and my consult is next week. I have pretty much given up pop but it has taken me months to get past the headaches.....yuck! I knew I was going to have to so I started early. Yesterday, I drank a regular pepsi and felt like crap about an hour later. It is amazing once you cut stuff like that out, you realize how bad it is for you.

    Went back to work today

I have been wondering how people feel when you go back to work. I have a desk job but do a lot of twisting and turning and running to grab this or that......My doctor says to plan to be off a week. I plan on scheduling it just as a 'vacation' so that I don't have too tell too many people what I am doing. Anyway, hang in there Rebecca! You are doing great already!!

    i have been crushed!!!!

This is making me nervous now too. I am presurgery, preconsult at this point but have talked to the insurance company a couple of times, they even sent me a packet of info that I need to get done for preapproval. How do I find out for sure that this surgery is an 'exclusion' in my policy? I have Univera insurance

    Overjoyed!!!!

Sasha, I am in the same boat you are in right now. Pre-surgery, heck, pre-consult. My consult is on April 12th and I am just biting my tongue waiting to get started. I am in a size 24 right now in my pants and a top size of 20. I am ready to start shopping and wearing smaller clothes. Eficka, I laughed when I read your reply because we are (were) at the exact same starting place.....that gives me so much hope!! I am hoping to be banded by July/August. That is my goal!!

One week so why am I so hungry??

wow AprilMarie, you are lucky. My insurance says I have to lose 5lbs of my body weight before surgery; for me that is 13 lbs. Then I have to do a 24 liquid diet before surgery, then 3 WEEKS of nothing but liquids followed by 2 weeks pureed......I can't wait (beating my head against the floor in anticipation) But it will all be worth it!

    Food Addiction

Thanks Chloe! I may only be 27, but all I can think about is all the years that have gone by that I didn't know about this surgery. I am a bit worried about the insurance process I am going through right now. My concern is that the way my insurance words it, unless you have some co-morbidities, they want you to have gastric bypass instead of lapband. Though I think both are great surgeries, I am really personally leaning towards the lapband. I guess time will tell. Has anyone else had the lapband payed for by insurance that didn't have any other co-morbidities?

    Food Addiction

You know, I get very frustrated when it comes to what insurances will and won't pay for. Mine won't pay for weight loss drugs, gym memborships or counseling sessions to help me lose weight but they will pay for surgery. This doesn't seem right to me. Doesn't it make more sense to help a person try to lose weight before they become morbidly obese rather than weight until the problem is out of control?

Your MOST embarrassing experience? Spill it people!

I am so sorry, but I about cried when I read this! Something similar happened to me but at work:o I was in the VP's office with my boss doing a quarterly review and I tried to back up in the chair that I was sitting in so that I could get up to go get something that I left in my office. As I did this, I heard the leg of the chair crack! Holy crap! No one said anything and I know they heard it. I left the office and came back to sit down and was so afraid that the chair was going to break in two that I sat and tried to hold myself up for the next hour till the end of the meeting. I thought I was going to die...........:faint:

The more posts I read on this forum, the better I feel about making the decision to have the surgery done. Cloe, your comments really hit home with me. Like you, I have 3 kids at home (age 5, 3, and 2). Over the past few years I have lost my identity. I have focused more on them and what they are eating and have allowed myself to just pile on the the weight. I told myself that this was my year. I was going to put myself at the top of the list with my family and I am starting to do that. The best part about it is that I am starting to feel better about myself and I haven't even had the surgery or lost any weight yet! It is amazing how positive thinking can really help you figure out what you want out of life. I want to be healthy, I want to play with my kids in the yard and get on a roller coaster without worrying that I am too big. I can't wait till that day comes for me!

    I'm a newbie with questions :)

Thanks! I was looking at everyone elses names and had to come up with something different  I heard a commercial where a girl was in a drive thru ordering food and she said she wanted a 'badonkadonkbutt with a side of thunder thighs'.....it cracked me up, so I stole it :nervous I thought it was perfect!

Hello and thanks for the support!

    Thanks for the support!
  19. Hello everyone! I just wanted to say that I am new to the forum. This is my first post :clap2: so bear with me.....I have been reading everyone's comments for about a week now and am just in the very beginning part of pre-op 'homework'. I am learning a lot and you guys have really helped with some of my questions. My first meeting with the doctor is on April 12th. In the meantime I am trying to get as much of the insurance bologna out of the way as possible. I think I am in pretty good shape so far. I am hoping to have the surgery by July or August....don't know if that will happen yet, but that is my goal. I am about 5'8 almost 5'9 and currently weigh 281 lbs. I have always been overweight and my weight yo yo's terribly. I think this surgery is what I need to do. I live in PA and my doctor's name is Dr. Ali. He is with the Hamot Bariatric Unit in Erie, Pennsylvania. He is a very well known doctor in our area. Anyway, I just couldn't sit back and suck up everyone's comments anymore without making my presence known :hippie: I look forward to getting to know some more of you and becoming a part of a support group to get through this!

    I'm a newbie with questions :)

Hi, I am new to this site too and just learning the ropes. My consult is on April 12th so it looks like we may be on the same path. I am also from PA and will eventually have my surgery in Erie. The site my doctor recommended me to is called www.mylapsurgeon.com It has a lot of really useful information and FAQ's about the surgery. You should check it out! I have been told that the fills don't hurt, they are just a little uncomfortable (like getting a shot) and no, you can't feel the port from the surface of your skin. If anyone has heard differently, I would love to know as well!

What's the worst thing someone said to you?

I know this is an older thread, but this just happened to me about a month ago and I think some of you may benefit from my story. I am just starting to look into the lapband. I went to Wendy's for lunch with a friend. We were in the drive through and I ordered a grilled chicken sandwich for me and she wanted the taco salad with sour cream. I ordered it together and when we got to the window to pay, I paid the girl (who was not small herself) and asked her if she included the sour cream in the bag. She just smiled and said 'yep'. Just before I pulled away, I heard her say 'like you need it fatty.....' Here is where I become proud of myself. I stopped my van right in the drive thru...at the end just past the window and went in the store and asked for a manager. You should have seen the girls face. She had no clue I heard her and you could tell she was embarassed. I told the manager what had happened loud enough for others in the line to hear. He called her over to apologize and then asked how they could make it right. He wanted to give me free meal coupons but I refused. I told them that I would not be returning to that store and that I would tell my 'fat' friends about the comments and was sure they wouldn't return either. Being that it is a small town and I work for a large company, I knew that wouldn't sit well with the manager. He took my name and address and ended up sending me meal coupons and stuff. I refused to put up with any comment and still do. I may be heavy but I am a human with feelings too!
