Luckyaka reacted to losangelesislovely in Need Daily Weigh-in Email Buddy
Banded 11/9/2012
Weight at Surgery: 172
Current Weight:165
Goal Weight: 125
Goals: Lose 5lbs/month
Exercise: C25k
Age: 26
Location: Michigan for now, LA in the near future
I'm not so much looking for a mentor as someone at the same point in the journey with a relatively similar amount of weight to lose (40-50lbs). I'm 6 weeks post-op.
I've found that daily weighing keeps me on track like nothing else, so I'm looking for someone to-without excuses--email each other our weights every morning and also talk about our ongoing progress and struggles.

Luckyaka reacted to cheryl2586 in Maintaining Weight While Travel
You can't go in to this 1. Thinking about food. That habit has to go away. You're not living to eat anymore you're eating to live. You do nothing different when traveling that you do now. You eat small portions and control your eating habits. Just because you can eat doesn't mean you have too. You have to have some self control in this journey the band won't do everything for you it is just to help you.

Luckyaka reacted to kma87 in BMI 27
Hi everyone. I see people asking if getting a band for BMI 30-35 is drastic and I wanted to share my story. I am 25 years old. I started my lap band journey at 79kgs (174lbs) and I am 165cm tall (5"5) ... I went into my surgeons office as my
Mum had successful banding 3 years ago and I have struggled with body image and depression for 4/5 years.. My weight fluctuated constantly but was at the heaviest I had ever been due to antidepressant medication. For those who haven't experienced the effects of this medication it causes significant carbohydrate cravings and also can slow the metabolism. So I was eating a lot of sugar and bread etc. I was exercising approx 3 times a week but It was not enough to budge the weight I was gaining. Initially my surgeon was hesitant to consider surgery, but when I expressed the amount of grief my weight was causing he really listened and understood that the surgery could be the key to Turning a life of depression and low self esteem around.... Which it has!! With the understanding that there would be careful monitoring so that i dont end up under weight he said to me that "he is in no position to play god" and if it was goin to improve my quality of life then he would do it so long as I had time to go away and really think about it properly. I had my surgery a month ago and I am already (10kgs) 15lbs down and I feel like a new person. I am taking less medication, I am excersizing more. And am so much happier for it. Those with lower BMI who feel like it could make you happier, go for it. It is drastic, but in my case. So very worth it! Best of luck to you! X

Luckyaka reacted to mrspopeye in 6 Month Bandiversary- Down 89 Lbs!
I had my official 6 month follow up visit today and I am so thrilled! I had surgery on May 14th and I am down 89 lbs since I started my journey on April 2nd. 6 months ago a spent a lot of time reading success stories, and that really helped keep me motivated thru the terrible pre-op phase and I can now say this had been very hard, but very worth it. My head hunger is finally going away and my cravings are less. I am adjusting well to life with the band as tool, and the rest is up to me. My next goal: I REALLY want to tell people I see at Christmastime who i havent seen in a while that I am officially down "100 lbs". A lofty goal, I know, but a girl can dream.
For all who are struggling: hang in there. It does get better. Read others successes and picture yourself there. You have the power to make your own decisions. Do you really want that cake or do you want skinny jeans this time next year? The more weight you lose and the more compliments you get, it does keep you motivated. Celebrate all goals, big and small and keep the faith!
