  1. Norina - I like Atkins shakes too as Atkins was the only "diet" that ever worked for me (lost 76lbs and kept it off for 3 years). And you sound a bit like me...the more I eat protein and get those calories in, the more weight I lose too. That's why I suppose I'm so concerned with not getting enough, but I don't want to force it because I'm sure bad things will happen!
  2. Haven't tried the Muscle Milk. Might have to give it a go...everyone seems to think it's pretty tasty!
  3. Karen - Thanks. I just don't want to starve my body. I'm getting the protein in with no problem...in fact, since I started soft foods I'm getting in a whole lot, which is great. Congrats on your 20. I've got about 78lbs more to go myself. Slow and steady and looking forward to the journey!
  4. Catfish - Too funny...yet very good point! I've got plenty of high protein boost and high protein Ensure. I suppose I'm going to have to start trying to get some of that in. Thx for the tip! And congrats to you too on the 72lbs!!! Awesome!
  5. Thanks krzy! I guess I've read so many threads from people indicating they were so hungry and here I go wondering what in the heck is my problem. Am I just a slow starter? I suppose it's always nice to hear you're not the only one!
  6. Oh, forgot to mention, I am getting in the min. 64 oz of water every day and today I finally started peeing some of it out. My body has been hanging onto everything like crazy. Bowel movements are every couple of days. Just started taking fiber gummies, go the ok from the doc on Friday.

    Started Pureed Foods!

I went with the baby food because it packed 8g of protein in a small jar me also because I don't have the luxury if time to cook and purée all my own food so convenience was a big factor too. As everyone here says each doc is different. I wasn't allowed sweet potatoes, cheese, refried beans, etc. in the mushies stage. I wasn't allowed to eat anything as long as it was put through a blender (unfortunately). I had a very specific and short list of foods to choose from so you work with what you've got. I didn't want to discount anything without giving it a shot. Baby food is bland, but throw some salt on it and the meat products were exactly like turkey, beef, or chicken gravy you would buy for your own dinner. I think being open to trying different things (as recommended by your doc and nutritionist) makes the overall journey much easier.

    day 2 of pre-op diet

I was on 4-6 protein shakes a day every day for 15 days. Don't over think it. Take it day by day and plow through it...you will make it. The food will still be there after surgery. You ladies can do it! As long as I didn't smell food I was fine. The smells really tested my will power but I made it 23lbs lighter by my surgery date and you will too...hang in there!
  9. Banded on 12/21 and was back at work on 12/26 with no issues whatsoever. However I have a desk job so it wasn't as taxing as having to be on your feet most of the day.

    Started Pureed Foods!

I did puréed cottage cheese, scrambled eggs, tuna salad, baby food meats in gravy (had to add salt and then it was fine), mashed potatoes, baby food fruit, sugar free jello mousse temptations. I only had to do it for a week and it went by pretty quick. Hang in there. Also keep in mind surgery may have altered your taste buds. At least that's what happened to me. I can't stand anything sweet anymore but anything salty has never tasted so good. I have always had a sweet tooth but can't stand sweets since surgery.

    Feeling noseous

I'm only two weeks post op but if I don't eat or drink properly I get nauseous and very shaky and tired. It goes away as soon as I eat though.
  12. Be glad you can burp! I am two weeks out and has only burped twice. I seem to have lost my ability to do it which I read some others have had an issue with too. I get the urge to burp but it just sits in my chest. Fortunately it manages to find its way out the other end which is better than nothing I suppose. :-)

    Newbie

I used Isopure post op to help get my protein in. It is very tasty and my doc ok'd it. There is also New Whey which is the same price but packs 42g of protein into 3.4 ounces versus the 20 ounce Isopure. My doc said this one was ok too and very yummy. Both were available at GNC in my area.

    Mushies !!!!!

Deso - I had mushies last week and when I had a scrambled egg it was absolute heaven! Enjoy and just think, you will be on to soft foods in no time!

Glad I'm not the only one!

    laughing cow

Thanks a lot! You had to go and start. Thread on Laughing Cow and remind me how much I love it! I bought a couple of packages at the store tonight! :-)
  17. I was driving the next day.
  18. I dropped 23 before surgery and another 7.5 in the week after surgery. Haven't budged since starting mushies but its probably because the system has to get used to it and when you're not getting enough calories it doesn't help either. We just need to hang with it.
  19. Banded 12-21. Started mushies on 12-28 and weight loss stopped here too. Bathroom schedule just resumed this morning...thank God!

    Mushies ah heaven!

Debbie - my doc had me do clear liquids the day of surgery, then protein shakes, milk, and strained cream soups for a week. Week 2 I started puréed mushies. Next week Friday I get to start on soft foods like chicken and seafood. Week 4 I am back to regular foods. Each doc is different from what I see on these boards.

    Mushies ah heaven!

Peaceful - it is scary but great too, isn't it?

    Mushies ah heaven!

Victorious - that's about it for me too. I also mixed/layered. For lunch I had baby food turkey with gravy on top of some mashed potatoes. Gosh that was good too. So many choices now after almost one month of liquids/shakes only!

    Mushies ah heaven!

I agree that it takes concentration. The small bites as well as the chewing. Also I made sure not too put too much on my plate. I figure if I want more later I can have it but better not to overdo it. Had cottage cheese and apple/cherry baby food. It was delicious!

    Mushies ah heaven!

    You got that right!

    Mushies ah heaven!

Victorious - I also started my mushies today and a scrambled egg never tasted so good!
