I will be banded next week, Monday the 27th. But I thought I would get a jump on the exercise, today I was at Disney World. I walked around both the Magic Kingdom and Epcot for several hours. Tomorrow, it is back to my regular workweek. Wake up and go to the gym by 5 AM, then had to work. I'm looking to go for 40 minutes on the elliptical tomorrow.
I'm hoping that after I am banded it won't take too long to get back to the gym. I'm also looking forward to taking my puppy dogs on walks around the lake more often.

I forced myself to wake up at 4:30 AM today, and was at the gym by 5:15 I was on the elliptical for 33 minutes and ran 4 1/2 miles. I felt lots of energy all day long, but now I'm starting to tire out.

I feel your pain, in fact we probably all do, since most of us had a pre-op diet in one form or another.
I had a 2 week liquid only pre-op followed by a 2 week liquid only post-op followed by 2 weeks of mushies and then FINALLY onto solids....grand total of 6 weeks without solid food....and yes, it was hard....and no I didnt cheat even once.....why?? I knew why I was making the decision to have WLS in the first place...one cheat here leads to another one there. It wasn't worth it...and like someone above said....it certainly wasnt worth a problem with my surgery.
The cravings do and will go away if you stick with it. Nothing about WLS surgery is easy from the pre-op to post-op to life after healing and with the band on an everyday basis....BUT.....
IT IS SOOOO WORTH IT (in my opinion)....I am having great success because I am following my doctor and nutritionists plan for me. I am NOT deprived of anything.....and for the first time ever in my life, food is not all consuming...and it is a great feeling.
So hang on by your fingernails if necessary but dont cheat...you are worth way more than whatever your urge to eat is!!!
You are strong and you can and will do this! Show yourself how important this is to YOU!
    Good luck!

thank you so much and congratulations on your success. I'm ready to make the lifestyle changes I need to keep my band (when I get it) working. I will keep you updated. I don't have many friends, so I need all the support I can get.

In regards to the pre and post op diet, your doctor or nutritionist should supply that information for you. If they didn't, please ask and congratulations on being approved.

Thank you everyone for the replies. I enjoyed all the feedback and I been reading and following all the different threads. I also been reading and doing research. I already started making lifestyle changes to help me after surgery. I bought a sippy cup and I now use a baby spoon. I also been chewing my food more and taking smaller bites. It is really hard to break bad habits but I will not give up. I also been trying different Protein Shakes. Thanks again everyone!

I am one week post-op today! Everything has gone really well, thank goodness.
My gas pain wasn't especially bad until the last 2 days (you would think it would get better). I have been living on gasx and the heating pad. Please tell me it subsides soon.
Down 12 lbs since my pre-op diet! Pretty darn excited about that!

Everything I've read says you only burn calories while you run, walk, cardio, but if you do resistence training of some sort, you continue to burn calories for nearly 36 hours. I believe cardio is still very important, but I think resistence is absolutely necessary.

I have to chime in, though, and say the best time to exercise is whenever you can actually do it! I like to workout in the morning as I "get it over with" and feel self-righteous the rest of the day, LOL. But with a schedule change I had to work out in the evenings for awhile and I just felt like it was good to get it in any time of day!
I agree with B-52 (as usual, he's a smart guy) about how you replenish, and about drinking lots of Water. A high Protein shake is a great way to get in the Protein and be smart about feeding your body.
I believe the recommendation as far as exercise is at least 30 minutes 5 times a week. so maybe add something else in on the days you're not doing c25k. Strength training is also something that you should add in, it helps so many things- toning, fat burning, bone strength, etc.

From what I've read and experienced......
High Intensity Interval Training burns more calories and aids in weight loss.
I've also read that morning workouts on an empty stomach burns stored fat( don't know if its true, just read it) and I do also work out mid-morning on an empty stomach.... I have never been a Breakfast eater. I come home and drink a Protein smoothie.< /p>
I drink 32 oz of Water as I do one hour of cardio and I immediately drink another 32 oz on my drive home.
I get to the gym 6 days a week.
    Can't remember your other questions!!
Good luck and keep up with that exercising......
Whenever it is and whatever it is !!!!!

I'm one of those that works out in the morning on an empty stomach....there is much published on the topic..google it...many people swear by it, others say it does not matter....but I know it works for me....
After a workout, you have just burned a lot of calories and fat, and your body is asking for it to be replenished....which you need to do...but be careful...do not replenish it with something that would negate everything you just accomplished....
I always finish with a high Protein shake....satisfies me....
As far as Water...you can never get too much.....and as you are exercising and as you sweat, your body is also expelling toxins...replenish it with fresh fluids...keep the system operating...helps skin tone among other things....
C 2 5K, when I started running I found this app to be extremely helpful....and it was not easy...many times I could not finish a session, and would go back and re-do that entire week and work back into the session I had trouble with.....so it probably took me twice as long to complete...but when I did, I had it down...
and I found that running, over all other exercising I have done, was the most efficient for me to burn fay and loose weight....
The C 2 5K program, if I remember correctly, is only 3 sessions per week....if you follow that, you could do something else on the in between days....
As far as how many days...that is really personal...some people believe every day....some say other...it's up to you...

Hi. I'm referencing to couch to 5k as I'm being banded tomorrow. I did that program and it was amazing. But it's not a weight loss program. A lot of people said that they lost inches but not pounds. I got up 25 minutes and right before 30 I became pregnant and didn't continue. I can't wait up start the program again. It felt so good. Hope you get your questions answered.

I was reading another post & it triggered some questions for me with regards to working out. I really wanted to post them on that particular thread but didn't want to hijack the thread as it was about something else. So, I'm really hoping some of the same people will see this post & respond.
    Questions:
    1. Someone referenced that they workout in the morning because they want their body to burn stored fat and not the food they just ate. I workout after dinner, around 7-8 pm. Am I at a disadvantage for working out after a meal? Is there a more optimal time?
    2. Should you eat after working out? Protein for instance. I don't as I am working out in the evening.
    3. How many times (& for how long) should a person work out in week for it to be an effective tool for weight loss? I'm training using the Couch 2 5k app, 3 times a week, 30 minutes each time. I'm in week 3 and honestly, it hasn't had ANY effect on the scales. Maybe it's too early to be judging its effectiveness? I'm thinking I need to add another couple days a week, mix it up and do something different for those 2 days.
    4. How much Water should one add to their daily consumption because of working out? A typical person should drink 8 - 8oz glasses a day. How many would you say you should drink when working out?
I know some of these answers are "it depends on the individual" but I'd love to get some discussion going around your specifics & what you would suggest to someone else, like me.

It's tough...I have a 3 1/2 and 7 year old and besides preparing the foods actually sitting and enjoying the meal is tough with the distractions, and talking and questioning and the COMPLAINING....LOL.
I, too, am grateful for the family dinners together but it is hard.
I try to drink but that doesnt always work and sometimes I just have a little bite of whatever I'm making. That little bite curbs the desire to eat more until dinner. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt.
Sorry, not the best advice but all I've got...its a day to day battle....good luck and keep us posted!
