I have heard that Tricare is cutting this procedure being covered. trying hard to get approved.

newbie, I was told by a Tricare rep that with a bmi of 40 or greater its an automatic approval.

I live in Louisiana. I am struggling with Tricare. I actually have 3 insurances but since insurance 1 and 2 doesn't cover bariatrics I am forced to use Tricare. 5 times I called Tricare to receive 5 different answers. one rep told me I would have to drop insurance 1 and 2. I dropped one and that made me nervous. I called finally and got a supervisor who told me not to drop my other insurance. my bmi is 39.5 I have no co morbidities, however every one in my family has diabetes including my dad who died at 45 of the disease. I just knew sleep apnea would be my ace in the hole, I had a sleep study, much to my surprise I have no apnea!! my only hope now is to do the physician monitored diet. I have been on weight watchers since 2011 but wasn't concurrent with physician monitoring. I have an apt with my GYN doctor on Wednesday, I feel certain he will help me out. my question is do I need to keep my weight stable or show loss or gain. I really really want this procedure!!!! the lady at Tricare said "well it sounds like you will get diabetes so if you do call us and we will probably pay for the procedure" Really??? that's what I am trying to avoid. any advise is greatly appreciated.

Okay Vanders I need help. I have three insurances the first two do not cover bariatric surgery that my third try care. When I started the process I was told that the problem was because I have three insurances. I want blackband so bad that I canceled one of my insurances. Then I was told to send in medical evidence supporting The lap band which I did. I caught all my medical records plus documentation ive had three knee surgeries sent in a beautiful appeals package. Today I received A denial lettet It states in the denial that I did not have proof of physician my weigh inwith the commercial diet plan. I have been Weight Watchers for years. Now I don't know what to do. Should I go to the doctor every month and get weighed. I have done everything that Tricare has told me to do. Now I am considering getting a sleep study. Any advice is appreciated

Hi I am new to this site. I have Tricare and trying to get approval. My BMI qualifies but no comirbilities. My family is full of diabetes and my dad died at 45 from it. I prepared an appeal letter showing how my blood sugars are trending up with my weight. I also have been diagnosed with fatty liver. I am considering a sleep study. Any advise would be appreciated. [Good luck. I spoke to the head of Tricare Thursday and was told IBM I have 40 is not need any other health conditions. 40 supposedly qualifies within itself

Carolina girl, Thanks! I have 3 insurances, Vantage thru my job, blue cross thru husband and then tricare prime. My first 2 insurances dont cover bariatrics at all. I called tricare and they have given me a run around from telling me to quit my other two insurances, which I didnt. Then they told me to see pcm (i havent been on base in years) but I did. PCM said I was good candidade but tricare denied me. my bmi is 36 but I have no co morbids. EVERYONE in my family has diabetes including my son grandparents etc...My dad died of diabetes at 45, I have had my gallbladder out due to "fatty liver disease" I have documented hiatal hernia by endoscopy ive had my left knee operated on 3 times and the next time will require replacement. I have been fat all my life and I am so excited. Tricare told me to write an appeal. One nigt while on this site I saw a beautiful appeal letter that a girl had used but now for the life of me I cant find it again. I need help.

Lap Band Warriors, please help. TRICARE has denied my surgery! They want me to write an appeal, which I have only 14 days to do so. The lady at TRICARE told me to quote articles etc. One day I saw where someone had written an EXCELLENT appeal letter quoting all sorts of articles, facts etc. If anyone has any experience with this, Id really appreciate the help. If I just had Tricare it'd be no prob but since I gave 2 other ins that don't cover it then Tricare won't although I meet all criteria
