    Stomach Growling

I was like that after my surgery because my Dr doesn't not put any Fluid in the band when he places it like some Drs do, and now with some of the swelling going away the hunger is going to be coming back. Once you get a fill it will get better and the hunger will most def go away. if you find that you are getting hungry drink some low calorie liquids or Water to hold you over until your next meal.
  3. if you ever get the stomach bug with the lap band just a heads up its the most horrible thing you will ever experience and the pain is horrible.because we all know with the tummy bug you throw up everything even what is below the band so its going to try and push its way back through the band which is rough so always have an antinausea medication on hand and take it and try not to throw up when sick with the tummy bug because its painful and when i had the tummy bug last year it took a week for my abdominal muslces to heal so yes you will throw up with the lap band and its not like the vomit when you eat something wrong with the lap band either its a whole different level.

    Fills

i have done that with some of my fills. i had one before where i think great this fill was not working then bam about a week and a half later it hit me and i am like wow this did work everyone is different my doctor said some feel it right away and some people it takes time. my first fill did nothing for me so you are lucky it took me three fills to start getting good restriction.

    Advice please!

People were like that with me as well when i first had my surgery it fell off very slowly there were people who lost twice as much as me in the first couple of months but i learned that everyone is different and that it will eventually come off and it did when i fell back into my old habits i did get a small fill which helped then i got a work out buddy and we started working out together so that i could get into a good routine i still catch myself going to my old ways but then i have to remind myself that if i keep up my old ways ill be the old me and that pretty much helps me get back on track

How to prepare body for a fill?

There is not much you can do to prepare for a fill. The only thing my doctor tells me is not to eat a couple of hours prior to a fill. as listed above you were probably filled too tight if you ended up in the er. small fills are good i think but some people are inpatient and end up having to get fluid taken out. I had small fills and it took me a while to hit my green zone and the last fill only took 0.2cc. Sometimes after some of my fills i would be more swollen and sore then others but i did the liquids for a couple of days and took small sips.To me each fill is not the same. good luck

    Getting stuck

I just recently went through that with an upper respiratory infection the pills irritated my band from the size of them and on top of that the thick mucus was plugging me up. I went on liquids for several days and felt much much better and i am able to eat again. I found that sipping on something warm helped me as well.

    Pre-op diet

I did my diet one week before surgery to help shrink my liver and of course you lose a little bit of weight during that week but its for the surgery to get the liver up out of the way so that they can get to your stomach the first couple of days are horrible and you think you are going to starve but after a couple of days its all good.

    What to expect?

My first visit i sat down with the dr and told him why i thought this surgery was the best thing for me he then set me up to have some basic blood work and a thyroid test to make sure all that was functioning. After all was well they worked with my insurance compay to see what they would pay for the surgery then set me up for pre op testing and i had to meet with a nutritionist and psychologist. From my first visit to the dr and the date of my surgery was about a month it was a little overwhelming at first but totally worth it in the end.

    Possible slip or too tight?

If you have a slip you wont be able to eat much of anything at all and it will be horrible pains maybe you have not gotten to your green zone yet and wating the naughty foods with the horrid habit you said you needed to break may have something to do with it. I kow there are days where i am way too tight but most days i feel pretty good. just talk to your doctor and see what he recommends and good luck

    First fill soon

i remember my first fill i was scared but it was just a little stick. my band did not have any fluid in it when placed so when they put the fluid in my band i could feel it poof up around my stomach it was a weird feeling but i knew then i was going to start having restriction. i had the max fill my doctor would do with the first fill because we wanted me to get use to my band but after many many fills and unfills i finally got to where i needed to be good luck to you
  13. Yep i feel ya my pants are much smaller than my tops but my belly is the biggest part of me so that is why i buy the bigger shirts so people wont stare at my stomach. but it is a great feeling when you go to get your clothes out from last winter and you cant wear any of them because they are too big!!!!!

    Hair Loss?

my doctor told me people start loosing thier hair because they dont take in enough protien. he also told me to take a good multi vitamin they said prenatal ones work well especially if you are worried about hair loss. i take a vitamin daily and make sure i eat plenty of protien and i have not had any problems loosing my hair yet and i really cant afford to since its thin as it is.
  16. I have days like that sometimies to where i can only eat a few bites and somedays i feel like i have no restriction which are few and far in between and even on the days i feel i have no restriction i really dont even eat that much i guess im just satisfied. as you loose weight you will need adjustments as the band becomes looser as well everytime i drop about 20-30 pounds i have to have an adjustment because my band is too loose and i also have days to where im think i need an adjustment and wait because the next day or two im at good restriction our bodies play a big part in how our bands feel they vary from one day to the next. good luck!!!

    No weight loss

i had my surgery done in september 2012 i lost a little weight right after surgery where i did not eat but then after i healed i really didnt start loosing weight until jan 2013 after they started working on my fills you are doing really well being that you had an infection good luck on your journey
  18. Its tricky and everyone is different i would chew chew chew until it was nothing but there were some foods i could chew until nothing and it would not work with my band so i would try different foods and if i had trouble eating it one time i would not eat it anymore. i always eat my meat first then i go to my veggies and some meats for me are tricky so i have to pick and choose wisely what i eat
  19. Get some gas x dissovable strips and use those they were my savior for the first couple of days and just remember you stomach is still swollen too as well so that has a part to do with it i remember drinking after my surgery it hurt so bad i didnt want to drink. they were going to make me stay in the hospital if i didnt drink but i finally got it down after a couple of days it started to ease up and i felt a little better just take small sips and use the strips and hoepfully that will help

    Post op: Is this normal!?

More than likely you are just sore and i know after my surgery it killed me to walk and the gas was stuck up in my chest and i thought i was going to die. after a couple of days though i was fine but if you are worried i would call your doctor and just make sure things are ok
  21. The thought of exercise use to make me want to throw up lol but now that the weight is gone and i have started doing it more frequently i tend to like it more and i am more motivated to exercise it is very important to exercise it will help tone you up as well and when i would reach a plataeu i would change my routine and the weight would start coming off again.
  22. I am almost 2 years out from my surgery and down almost 100 pounds!!!! I can not belive it!!!!!! I never thought that i would ever be in the place i am in now. My 2 year goal was to be down 100 pounds and with three months left i think i can do this!!!! At first i had my doubts but looking back at the person i was and the person i am today i am so much happier. I still have a ways to go on my journey its slow but i know one day i will get there if i keep working hard at it. Sure there are days i get discouraged and days i eat what i know i shouldnt but i dont let that stop my progress it just makes me work harder!!! I hope everyone else has the same success as me if not more and good luck to everyone on their journey.
  23. I have been in your shoes as well i got sick when i was 16 with lupus and had to take massive does of steroids for over a year like you i was always solid. after taking the steroids i gained about 100 pounds and i hurt so bad that i could not move. i was fat and miserable. People always told me that since i was young i could do it on my own and loose the weight and i tried everything from going to the gym all the time and not eating anything because i was afraid of gaining so much weight. I finally reached my breaking point when i weighed 314 pounds. i met with my lupus doctor and told her that i wanted weight loss surgery and the hugged me and thought that it was a great idea. the only two options that i was allowed to have was the sleeve or the lap band because the bypass would be to dangerous with my history of bleeding out. I was scared at first but finally had the surgery done and the 100 pounds i gained is almost gone my knees dont hurt anymore and the bursitis in my hip has finally started to feel much better. it is a hard road ahead of you but i think that you can do it. I wish you the best of luck and hope that you get your surgery done soon to that you can get to feeling better.

    Approval Process

It all vaires with the diet. I had to do a 6 month diet with my regular doctor before my insurance would approve the surgery. I had co morbities so the doctor said that he would do everything to make sure the insurance would approve my surgery. Let me tell you though those 6 months fly by and it was not hard to do i just had to show that i exercised and can change the way that i eat. My insurance sent me through an obsticle course ontop of what the doctor required me to do but in the end it was all worth it. I hope everything works out for you !!!
  25. Congrats on getting your band!!!! The diet the week before surgery is a pain in the butt. The first couple of days were really bad then after that i was not really all that hungry and i learned to be creative with what i could have to keep me from not being hungry but i know that all dr have a different diet before surgery to follow unfortunatly you have the hardest one to follow but you only have two more days and you can do it!!!
