Vegasme got a reaction from CassieWNY in Mindful Body... and other thoughts on mental eating
So I finally got my surgery date... July 22!!! It has been a long 6 months of tests and insurance fights to get to this point and although I feel ready for the surgery, the thought of being mentally prepared still lingers. I do realize, for myself, that I am not overweight because I am just a more hungry person than a thin person... I know I am overweight because I eat when I am not physically hungry at all.. just bored , sad, happy, tired or just to reward myself for a long day at work. I wonder what will happen with those feelings when I physically cannot eat. So much of my family time has been focused around meals , I guess I am just worried that even though I am aware there will be mental challenges I wonder If I will feel sad or frustrated?!! How long will that last ? Any advice or comments or overcoming the mental anguish that is sure to follow the surgery when I can no longer eat?? Thanks everyone

Congrats on your date and for the jnfo!! Also the stomach naturally "relaxes" when you begin eating. Your sleeve is tighter and will not do that anymore- this can cause more acid issues for some people. I haven't had reflux at all and feel very fortunate. For me, the full feeling is nothing like the full feeling before I was sleeved. It is a very different sense of pressure vs. feeling like I over ate.

I think this is my biggest worry . So much of my family time is centered around what and where we are going to eat.. what will I do after the surgery? In a way I think it will be freeing to not be "hungry" and be able to be more in control , but I too am worried about replacing eating with something else that is satisfying and am scared I may feel lost . hmmm... guess that is the real work- finding yourself and getting out there in life and replacing the satisfaction of food with people and great adventures instead.

this is an important topic.. I think this is so important fo you to get to the bottom of. This issue may be why you put on all the weight in the first place ( as a shield). You need to seek therapy to get a solid mind/ body balance and be sure you are fully aware that the weight wasnt really shielding you-- you are old enough now to shield yourself and take back your own power. You deserve to be the best you !! Take the time to get to the root of your emotional situation --- why you put on the weight in the first place?
    Best of luck:)

    Hey all!
I started this journey in January and have been doing the 6 months of Dr supervised diet since then (doing that with my PCP). Yesterday, I had my appt with the Nut and she went over my diet after surgery...week by week...and really talked about everything. Wow! It actually started to get real for me at that point. I guess doing the 6 months of dieting seems literally endless so really going over the diet after surgery got me excited and nervous at the same time!!! I still have two more months of my 6 month requirement before submitting to insurance for approval but just had to share. I'm hoping I'll have surgery in August!!! It will be here before I know it!
