  1. I received my bill for $41K two weeks ago. I'm a cash patient and signed all kinds of documents stating the only thing i would be required to pay beside the original $10K was if i had to have a hernia repair. Which they repaired. I called my surgeon immediately about the bill and they said they would take care of it. I think its a lack of communication between the hospital and surgeon. I am staying on top of them about it because i don't want that crap on my credit.

Crazy how they only charged me $10K and then the bill comes and says $41K.

  2. my doc says I can't take Calcium and Multivitamin together... i was literally taking Vitamins all day. I bought the regular Centrum adult Vitamins and have been breaking them up... It doesn't say anywhere on the bottle NOT to break them up. I only have to take that once a day instead of 4 times a day with the chewables. I'd prefer once a day because i was literally taking vitamins every two hours and it was hard to keep up with...

does anyone know if this okay?

I also have to take Vitamin d, Biotin. Not to mention the B12 shots i have to give myself. It's like a job keeping up with the vitamins.

  3. drinking shakes to lose weight was to help prepare our bodies for surgery.

contemplating just doing shakes/sliders for life is silly and is kinda like what get the band if you are not gonna eat?? i say that because jeannie of bandwagon asked me that same question when i stated to her i was afraid to eat bc i may (gain). def changed my thinking.

did your dr give you a hand out of what to eat or not?

i agree w/cheryl, bread was not on my mush list either.

i am nearly 5 months post op and dont eat bread/rice/pasta

i focus on Protein, fresh veggies/fruit.....and i drink alot...

i also recommend staying off the scale for awhile or weighing so much

as you are still 2 weeks out and still healing.

can you tell me what a "slider" food? I haven't figured that one out yet.

  4. Hey everyone day 5 of preop liquid diet down 9lbs so far super exciting cant believe how fast time is going I'm such a worry wart too so ugh!!! I'm getting a little more emotional and anxious as Nov 6 creeps closer! I've had a rough year and I jus wanted to say thank you to all u new beautiful people that have come into my life as I go down this new path!! Truly a blessing!! Have a Grrreat Friday!!!

Whoa girly! that's fantastic... So proud of my girl! You're doing AWESOME!!!! I haven't weighed myself yet... I'll try to do that this weekend.

So glad to have you and Katie in my life now too!!! You two have been a great support system. I look forward to getting skinny together... And then we're going cruising! A well deserved vacation! You rock!!!

  5. Insurance can turn you down for gallbladder surgery? That's crazy! That's a medical problem, not some random surgery. Surely they can't make you live like that!

I would try to appeal if you can.

I am a self pay... my insurance just doesn't cover bariatrics on my policy. They wouldn't even consider it. So i understand.

    Good luck!

  6. My pre-op is super easy... I basically am on a high Protein, low carb diet. I don't have to drink the shakes, but i'm drinking them in the morning. Counting calories... 900-1000 per day.

I got lucky... But the post op seems like it's going to be so hard. 2 weeks Clear Liquids, 2 weeks Protein Shakes, 2 weeks mushies, then regular diet.

Thanksgiving falls under the Protein Shake phase. Blah! BUT - I'll be on regular diet by Christmas and hopefully like 30lbs lighter.

  7. Hi everyone!!! I am here at my pre op lab appt!!! Start my liquid shakes today and I'm already hungry just thinking about it!! I have downed a bottle Water first so we will see how this all goes!!! Anyone that wanted to add me on fb I'm ok with it Catherine Almazan ;) josesgirl4eva@gmail.com hopefully u can find me!! Take care will update you soon

You got this girly! I'll be right there with you tomorrow. hit me up on FB if you need anything.... Also, i will send you my cell phone # if you need to text me. Hang in there!!!

  8. I was told no straws ...due to the fact that when we drink with them we also bring air in with the liquid -- It means possible painful gas...and I was told to avoid all carbonated drinks (some "waters" are carbonated so be careful) because it could stretch my pouch, especially soon after being banded.

When they say you can have foods that "could" go through a straw in the mushies stage, they don't mean literally.

I avoided straws ever since. but you will get different opinions and suggestions. this is just what my dr suggested to me.

I know all about the carbonation... but hadn't heard the straw thing. I will mention it to my doctor and get his opinion. I'm not a big straw user so it shouldn't be an issue... just wondered why!

    Thanks for the heads up!

  9. nope, surgeon said after surgery so i adhered to instructions.

dont miss it. (same w/soda as i was instructed no to that in my pre op).

def a mind thing to me.

What's the reason for no straws? I thought it would slow someone down with drinking too fast.

  10. but seriously, no

i just took it slow and did the baby sips and now drink regular

being newly banded, you are swollen so you cant (gulp) or at least i could not but now i am doing regular (drinking) except no more straws....thought id miss that but i dont.

    No straws????

  11. I'm super excited but nervous as well I weigh 250 at 5'2 so I am ready for this next step. I lost 55lbs with workout and weight watchers but still feel hungry.. I'm kinda stressed today so I think that's why my stomachs upset ugh!! I am jus drinking the choc n vanilla from Walmart..I'm hoping I can make it thru this couple of weeks.

congrats on your success so far. I need the lapband to help me keep it off... I have been successful in the past but haven't ever been able to keep it off. I'm ready for a change.

I think you'll do great. We should help motivate each other since we're on the same surgery date... Lean on each other when it's tough...

    I'm Carrie!

  12. I have been doing shakes in the morning for like 2 weeks... trying different ones... They haven't made me feel sick at my stomach though.

I ordered a sample box of unjury brand... I've heard they're pretty good. i'll find out tonight when they arrive.

Is your diet - 2 shakes and a sensible dinner? I don't know yet what my pre-op diet will be as i meet with my nutritionist monday.

You excited about the surgery? I'm super excited but scared.
