I had a slip revision last Oct. I did not feel as bad that time as I did after my 1st surgery. I can't say I went right back, but was bowling in 3 weeks. In fact, I went on a cruise 2 weeks after the revision. You can do it. Just be aware of watching your food intake until the surgeon refills your band. Karen

I just had my slip repaired and had plication done on the 15th of November. I'm not sure why, but this surgery was SO much easier to recover from than the original band surgery! The only reason I can think of for that is that my body was already used to a much smaller amount of food. I didn't have any of the weakness and light-headedness that was so extreme with my first surgery. One week to the day after my revision and plication, I was re-arranging my living room furniture by myself and decorating for Christmas!!
Hopefully yours will be easy, too.

Not saying you guys present yourselves a gang but you do as a click. Why can't you just let Sandy find the info she is looking for? I think we all are adults. Let's behave that way.

I lost 60 to 70 pounds several times in my life and gained it all back. One time I lost 60 pounds (Atkins) and it took 18 months but I lost the battle to being heavy. YO-YO comes to mind about diets.

I was 250 lbs at 40 years old. At 50 I was 377. I am 5'9...just like you. I found the band and I feel it bought me at least 30 more years on this earth. With out it I really believe I wouldn't have made to 60. And I was a healthy fat girl... But how much strain can the heart take?
You have some great advice on these posts... Best wishes making a decision which will work for you. Do the lap band or don't.... Just DO something.

Speaking from personal experience I had no problems loosing weight pre band but like the majority have said keeping it off was my issue and when I'd put it back on it was with extra too. A lot of people can loose it and keep it off and I wish I was one of them but I'm not and finally at 49 years old and weighing in at a hefty 366 pounds I started researching the lapband. It took me a good year to make my decision and in that year again I gave it another good shot at trying to loose and keep it off. I'd hit a hurdle as in a plateau and backwards I went again. Had my lapband put in on 2 nd July 2012 and today, five months later I weigh 290 pounds. For me so far it's been the best decision in helping me loose and keeping it off so far, it's not easy, it's a lot of work and a lot of frustration at times but in saying that not once have I wanted to give up these last five months.
So yes do your research, give it your best to loose and keeping it off and you may be one of the lucky ones that can maintain the loss if not then maybe lapband is the way to go.
I know I will reach my goal, might take me two to three years but one thing I know I will never go back to where I was and I believe having this tool will help me keep the weight of finally. Fingers crossed I don't develop any lapband complications down the track.
Best wishes to you and I'm sure you'll make the right choice for you.

WW,TOPS,Atkins, walking. Like I told my surgeon "I have no problem losing,it's keeping it off that's the problem". Hoping LB will finally change that.
And to answer another post you made, yes more likely health issues kill me, than LBS.

To me, losing the weight isn't the best benefit of the lap band. It is knowing that the band will help me keep it off. At Last!

I lost 100 lbs several times before I was banded... And gained every bit of it back...thus the band!! I was successful with Jenny Craig, weight watchers, Adkins and some liquid diet back in the 90s where I dropped 100 in about a minute and put it back on the second I started eating. I learned nothing on any of those programs... Or maybe better put... I learned if I didn't continue to eat what was on the diet I would gain it back.
    Not anymore.

Wow.. Thanks Sandy. I was banded 2 years ago today actually... And I have literally lived becoming one with my band...and the one thing that kept me going was the continued loss...and the will power to finally live the life as a slim person. I am finally there.

The holiday season is here and it’s time for us all to quickly gain ten pounds. What? Why would I say that? I say that because it’s written all over the place. Over the next few weeks, you are going to see and hear references to our tendency to gain weight during this time of year in every newspaper, magazine, website, blog and television news program. And while the opportunities to eat may increase this time of year and the kinds of foods pushed on us are often not the healthiest, you don’t have to gain weight. However, if you expect to…you will.

What do expectations have to do with weight gain? Think of expectations as a combination of predictions and learned patterns of behavior. Outcomes that have occurred in the past, we generally expect to happen again. Take Thanksgiving for example, or what I like to call “National Binge Eating Day.” Thanksgiving is one of those few days of the year where the holiday seems to be about overeating. Of course, Thanksgiving is supposed to be about taking the opportunity to give thanks for how fortunate we are to live in this great country and to count our blessings for what we have. However, if you ask most Americans what comes to mind when they think of Thanksgiving I’ll bet turkey, stuffing, pie and football come long before giving thanks. More importantly, it’s not only food and eating that we think of but overeating and overindulging. This is so common that it’s often parodied in television commercials. Companies that manufacture antacids run ads showing people with exploding pant buttons or slumped back in the big armchair following the big meal. Thanksgiving, holiday parties and overeating seem to be synonymous.
Many of us expect to overeat on Thanksgiving and at holiday parties so we inadvertently mentally gear up for this to happen. With this expectation of overeating in mind, our behavior becomes less controllable…you’re psychologically setting the stage for a binge to occur by expecting a huge meal to be served and by recalling previous Thanksgivings when you overate. Similarly, this is the season of holiday parties. Holiday parties tend to include foods that are rich, highly caloric and plentiful. And let’s not forget the alcohol. When you attend holiday parties, many of us expect these foods and drinks to be available and we are more likely to overindulge if that has been our pattern in the past. You’re certainly not a drone who is unable to make change, but it is infinitely less likely unless you take active steps to make that change. What can you do to prevent overeating at this time of year and gaining those extra pounds?
Change your expectations by planning what you will do ahead of time. On the morning of Thanksgiving, think about what the likely layout will be where you are having the meal. Have you been there before? Do you know what to expect to be on the table? If so, plan ahead. Make some decisions about what you will eat and how much. Promise yourself that you will not overeat. After all, it’s just one meal and ironically many people who overeat say they’re not particularly fond of Thanksgiving food. They just get caught up in the collective binge mentality and the rest is history. If you plan ahead and carefully consider what to do instead of binging, you have a much better chance of controlling yourself and feeling good about your eating behavior afterwards.

Consider that while eating may be a significant and enjoyable part of holiday parties and gatherings, OVEREATING does not need to be. Try not to give yourself permission to overindulge. Let’s face it…eating is fun and enjoyable and is a large part of holiday merriment. However, there is no fun in feeling nauseas or uncomfortable just after the meal and guilty and self-deprecating hours later.

Don’t starve yourself on Thanksgiving morning or on the day of a holiday party. This is one of the most common, yet foolish strategies people employ. The calories you give up by skipping Breakfast and lunch usually pale in comparison to the calorie content of the evening binge at Thanksgiving or the holiday party. Instead, eat normally during the day which may actually help keep you from binging later. You are far more likely to control yourself if you are mostly full during the day rather than starving when you walk in the door of the party.

Consider making some eating compromises. Who said you have to have turkey only on Thanksgiving? Is pecan pie banned at other times of year? Consider having the foods that truly are once a year items rather than loading up on everything. And even then, you don’t need five pounds of the special foods. If you only get to eat your grandmother’s special stuffing once a year, you certainly shouldn’t pass that up. However, I promise you that eating a ton of it will not make you happier than having two nice size tablespoons of the stuff. Again, plan ahead and make decisions earlier in the day.

Watch the booze. Alcohol causes our judgment to get a little fuzzy. You are going to be more successful controlling your behavior if your brain is firing on all cylinders. If you drink too much too early in the day, you’re going to have a tougher time sticking to whatever plan you created. Also, too much alcohol causes us to make other foolish decisions. There are enough unfortunate tragedies that happen this time of year. Make sure you’re not a part of one.

I’m not suggesting in any way that you be a killjoy and I certainly don’t believe that it’s necessary to avoid holiday parties or gatherings where food is available. By planning ahead, changing your expectations, and making a few specific eating compromises, you can truly have your cake and eat it too.
    Happy Holidays!

This was a well written piece. I honestly had no idea about a couple of these precedures and thought I'd completed a fairly comprehensive read on WLS, in general. But, its obvious to ME after having read this that I need to spaek with a well rounded Surgeon. I have that on my bucket list anyways, so now I will go in more informed,
Thanks so MUCH! Thanks for this and all the other wls sites too. They DO have a welcoming FEELING associated in the memory/contemplation of,the use of a forum.
You are a neat person I'll wager, and probably make an awesome friend! Thanks so much for the invite to join, and all of the other amenities associated with being a member of this/these forums. Dont ever change Friend, just stay the way you are, personalitywise, cause yer not broke, so you need no" fixin", IMO. SOOoo, if anybody man or woman tells you otherwise tellem I said to get bent!

It really touches me reading about the emotional side of things cos i know that's how i got here.
Emotional eater all the way and to top it off, a really emotional person! hah!
I eat for all the wrong reasons... To Celebrate, togetherness, happiness, defeat, depression, comfort...
Almost every life situation has food involved. I grew up in a house where everyone was so busy that our quality time was spent around a table filled with amazing home cooked food so i guess that's the core of it.
I am so disappointed in myself... i have lost a huge amount of weight 3 times in my life (got down to a bmi of 24) but always gained it back over time.
That's why i am getting the lap band. Cos i either "diet" or let go completely, i don't have stability. I need to be taught how to eat all over again and not have a 'feast or famine' mentality.
To everyone feeling ashamed, you are not alone. I feel it every time i walk into a room full of people, order something from a restaurant, go clothes shopping, look in the mirror, socialize.... the list goes on.
Chin up guys, we are all beautiful regardless of our size. Let's just try and lose weight so we can be healthy and buy cute clothes haha

whilst you ponder that, take a gander at this little scenario. My ex Husband was an excellent lover, best Ive ever had. Oral, doggie you name it we did it and it was good, awesome! WE were married less than a year.
We went to bed one night, and in the middle of the night I woke up, no Jeff. His side of the bed empty. No cells back then. I look outside, and the car is there. I get to thinking, and worried. Looked hi and low. We lived in a second floor adorable apart with very old carvings, oak just gorgeous!
Anyhoo, theres this bar we frequented to play pool, about 6 houses down the street. I can see it from our place. I get dressed, and locked up, walk down the street . I find him in there , middle of the night sitting at the bar, suckin face WITH A GUY!!!!
We divorced soon after, nuff said. Creep. Guys if ya think you might be unsure dont MARRY A STRAIGHT WOMAN and let her find out this way. It messes with the head.

Hi there from Australia. I am booked to be banded on 18 Dec. Start 2 week Optifast pre op diet next week.
I have been trawling the web for anything to do with the lap band. I want to share with you my two new lap band heroes that i love from you tube. First is bandedwendy - she is like the good angel that sits on your shoulder and yells like a drill sergeant into you ear about sticking to the lap band rules! The second is lizlovesherlapband. Liz is very real - and is Australian. Liz tells you what is really like living with a lapband. Her posts about the week post surgery have given me real confidence. Both of these women have been very successful and are real inspirations to me.
Do you have any heroes to recommend ? I am looking for as much info as i can get.
