  1. To those who had gastric bypass, do tacos make you dump? I remember someone said they did so I'm scared lol. It's not something I would think of as having sugar in it!

Believe it or not to many carbs make me dump...I have to watch carefully because I can eat most everything.....

  2. 9 month check up. All is well. Have to start taking my B12 shots twice a month instead of once but otherwise labs are fab. I may be one of the slowest losers from our group but as long as it keeps coming off, I'll be happy. His only advice was to not fall in to old habits over the holidays.....

You and I together are the slowest losers, but that's ok everybody's body is different I am Feb 6th surgery 9mo out and in an EPIC STALL since month 6! Haven't lost at all since...Toning and maintaining. Happy to be size 12 not 20/22.

I guess my body is comfortable in the 180's? I was told by the surgeon that the first 6 months is the bulk of the weight will come off then harder and shower thereafter, he wasn't kidding!

Will have my second set of labs done next week off all prior meds only Vitamins and Biotin now.

  3. Hey Fab Feb i haven't been blogging for awhile...Hope everyone is happy with their progress?

As for me my body has decided its happy at 185 size 12 instead of 250 Size 22. I am 8 months out and have been in a EPIC stall since August. So I don't get to obsessed and crazy I have stayed off this forum. I thought I would check in and see if anyone has been in a stall like this? anyone?

  4. I'm on my 4th month after revision and down 71lbs and worried about the weight loss slowing down and had heard revisions lose slower I'm curious why? I asked my dr and he said because most revsions have lost their initial weight with their first surgery and then a large amount after revision because of the liquid diet after ....but I weighed more when I had my rny then I did when I had my band so I'm hoping I don't slow down too much or else I feel like I'll never get to my goal weight :(

I was told by my surgeon that because I had the band twice and and so much scar tissue and adhesions will make my weight loss a little more challenging. If you don't have a lot to lose then gets harder. I was 232 when I had my surgery and I weight 185 ' date=' I was a size 20 now I am a 12 but have been at a stall for almost a month (in month 6) I'm not a petite person I am 5'5" tall and had carried my weight all over not just in one spot. The reason my surgeon wanted his patients to eat only Protein until 75% of the weight loss was met before starting fruits and veggies.

  5. I was banded in January of 2009. I choose band over bypass then because I wanted something reversible and adjustable since I was planning on having another baby. I lost 40 pounds in the first year. Not stellar but good. Then I started having reflux. I got stuck on every food. I threw up or slimed every time I ate.

I turned to slider foods and gained it all back. Every last pound and a few extra now reside with me

I started to look into revision last year. I met with a new surgeon who took all the Fluid out of my band so the reflux would subside a little and so I could eat. I love the new surgeon! He told me he sees a lot of people like me.

So I have my insurance approval but I had to schedule my surgery out in December so I cam finish school. I'm excited and scared. I know the recovery is worse with bypass but I'll be so happy to have this band out. I am excited to not feel like there's a ball constantly jabbed under my ribs. I'll be happy to eat with out being asked if I'm stuck again.

Lots of luck to us all on the journey!

I'm you're twin same story please don't get discouraged with a revision the weight loss is good first 5 months then slows way down we are different than straight bypass people. ..

  6. How are you all doing with Hair loss? Has anyone not lost hair at all? I've been losing a handful every time I shower' date=' and then I shed profusely throughout the day. My hair is so fine I asked my kids to touch my head and they freaked out. My former dime-size pony-tail is now like the width of a pencil, and all my barrettes fall out.

I'm ready for it to slow down any time now, but the hair loss is still going strong. How are the rest of you doing?[/quote']

speaking for only myself I have lost minimal hair loss I take Biotin 5000mcg, prenatal Vitamins, B12 and use pureology shampoo/ conditioner hair is short and wash only every two days (not oily) air dry most of the time as to not have fallout or breakage. ..

  7. I hope I'm not shocking anybody but I was 72 when I had RNY. I have always felt 20 years younger and age has just been a number. My Dr. did an 84 yr old and he did fine. In searching for a bariatric practice' date=' I noticed that many had a cut off at 65 +/-. Diabetes was my main concern and could not see myself taking proper care of myself when I get really old so that was my main motivation for the surgery. It wasn't a snap decision however, but when I found an opportunity I thought I should take it before Medicare decides to drop the age limit.[/quote']

All I can say is WHOO WHO YOU GO. ..... CONGRATS

  8. Ladies I'm getting so frustrated. I had my surgery on 2/19 and lose 9lbs when I went in surgery n weighed 271 now today 8/2 I'm still 212 and stuck! I have upped my protein' date=' Water and exercise. This is the first time I have felt so down after this surgery. I really just need some encourage because now I'm feeling like a failure. How is everyone else losing weight. What are y'all eating. Give me some ideas I need help. I can't see my doc because I no longer have insurance[/quote']

We all stall at different levels of weightloss. Try staying away from the scale for awhile. Some stalls last week's. .. look at me I'm into month 6 the month most surgeons say you should be at 75% of loss, I'm not! At the same time my md is pleased the 47 lbs that have come off. .... hang in there the scale will change numbers in a downward fashion, stressing doesn't help weight loss. ...

  9. From everything I'm hearing' date=' it sounds like loosing weight changes a relationship. Whether the relationship survives that change or not depends on those involved, but it sure does seem like a stressor.

What surprises me is that I thought the weight–loser would be the one to leave after he or she regained some self-esteem. I'm surprised at how many partners change or want to leave.

I suppose I shouldn't be surprised, however. Relationships live in a state careful balance. When one of the partners changes, whether it be due to weight loss or gain, or mental or physical health (whether it is improved or it suffers) the balance is thrown off.[/quote']

it's been my experience either grow together or grow apart.

  10. Hi everyone!

Just wondering how all of you are doing. I have been through quite a bit these last few months. Dad had a heart attack' date=' right after my surgery complications. I was afraid it was me....them my mom ended up with heart issues in the er too. We drove up there to Vegas to see them. Then I have been struggling g so much with this surgery and all my other med problems. The kids school ending....blah blah blah....just craziness. How are you all doing? I started at 287 and am down to 194.2. Dr says 160 is the goal. So I have a couple days till I get my 75% weight lost. I'm so excited to eat veggies again,.. I'm still on Protein mostly....have had a few bites of "bad" foods though. Right now I am trying to get my Vitamins and protein back up on my list of priorities. I am so sorry for being MIA it is had with all the complications and family problems and med problems. I hope there are still friends here.....hugs
