  1. Oh God.... I said I wouldn't be dragged back into this but here I am... Watcher, I thought you were intelligent enough not to believe every soundbite taken out of context. My recollection of that town hall meeting was that while he didn't disagree with her comments, he believed an all volunteer military was superior and had no plans to implement a draft. Many liberals on the other hand have been calling for the implementation of a draft because they believe the only way to end an unpopular war is to scare people into taking action. They may have a point, but McCain did not support implementing a draft and has no plans to do so.
  2. Who thinks those who lost weight on the BL will be able to keep it off long term?
  3. You have got to figure out how to get post lap band care. They need to monitor your fill level, check to see if you've had a slipped band and help you with proper diet and nutrition. At a minimum, you should be taking some sort of multi-vitamin.
  4. Some people are just totally crass!
  5. I REFUSE to feel sorry for you Slim, YOU got a month off from work after this surgery. I got my surgery on a Wednesday and was back at work the following Monday. Granted, I have a desk job but STILL! Typing this from home.. I telecommute on Fridays.
  6. I KNOW I'm obsessed with the scale. I weigh myself 2 to 3 times in the morning and at least once every evening. Prior to being banded, I did put my scale away for a few months and ballooned up to my heaviest 213 lbs which is when I hit bottom. I did not realize I had passed the 200 mark and belive if I had been weighing myself more regularly I would never have allowed myself to get above 200. Anyway, I'm banded now and hope to reach goal by my bandiversary 9 months from now. I think people who say scale obsession is self-destructive are over simplifying. I don't go into a depressive spiral if I weigh a few lbs more than the previous day because with Water retention my weight can vary 3-5 lbs in either direction. So I keep that in mind. Now if I have more than a 5 lb gain, then I know I better get cracking.
  7. It's so good to have you back Janet. Are you going to see Fergie the singer?
  8. Lilith, is your friend also overweight? It's been my personal experience that normal weight people have been more supportive of my decision to be banded than those who are overweight.
  9. My doctor said you can return to ALL physical activity as soon as you feel up to it. So, if you feel up to it, go golfing. If you find that you don't feel good out on the course you can always quit and go home for the day.
  10. Congrats Terri, this is one of the few times I've seen a conservative leave a liberal speechless. RSG, even though we disagree on political issues, I still think you're cool and sweet. luv ya!
  11. I quit smoking in January after being a pack a day smoker for 20+ years. Just back away from the nicotene product and just say no. The longer you go without the quieter that nagging voice becomes.
  12. I love it!
  13. I think people's reaction to the band/restrictions are as varied as the individuals. Having said that, I have never felt full since I was banded (not in the way I felt full prior to banding). The feeling I get is a sense of discomfort in my chest area which naturally kills my appetite and makes me stop eating. That doesn't mean I'm full, it just means I will not derive any pleasure from continued eating. For me, the band has changed my relationship with food. I have been banded for 3 months and have never PB'd (the episode you describe is PBing) or vomitted. I have been stuck a couple of times for brief periods of time when I forgot to chew, chew, chew. I think it's an evolving process and each fill can make your body react differently so you have to always be on guard and don't try new foods in public.
  14. I must have jinxed myself because as soon as I posted that it was better, it slowed WAY down.
  15. TV is all about ratings and as much as people love winners, I think many enjoy watching others being humiliated even more.
  16. Dr. Spivak was the first lap band surgeon in Texas and he's done more of them than any other doctor in Texax BUT the doctor you are thinking of is probably Dr. Spiegel. He's done many of them as well and he's all over TV and the billboards by the highway. I've not seen a single ad by Dr. Spivak. I looked into both Spivak and Spiegel and chose Spivak for his experience as well as the professionalism of his staff. Dr. Spiegel's staff were nightmarish and everything I've heard about them since has only confirmed my opinion.
  17. Much better this morning.
  18. Get the ones you can hang on the door. They are light and can be hung on most any door. You should be able to pick one up for less than $20 at either Wal-Mart or Target.
  19. Hi, I'm from the 'burbs of Houston Texas. I was banded in July by Dr. Spivak.
  20. Welcome TSD. You are embarking on an exciting journey that could change the rest of your life. I was banded on 7/16/08 by Dr. Spivak.
  21. You'll be in Onederland in no time Quilting Bee! WTG on your weight loss so far.
  22. I note many on here have a myspace page. I was wondering if I was the lone holdout?
  23. I couldn't resist the urge to share.
  24. Maybe writing Oprah would get better results but I bet her PR people actually do research things said/written about Oprah. In any case, I'm not really interested in hearing what Oprah has to say about this, I started this thread because I was interested in what others on this forum thought about Oprah's weight issues. I do have to admit to a secret delight in pointless pissing and moaning from time to time.
  25. Good luck tomorrow. I'll be thinking of you and sending positive energy your way.
