  1. My son was misdiagnosed at the age of 11 as bi-polar by a quack pyschiatrist and prescribed Abilify. It made a very skinny little boy balloon up to 3 times his size in 5 months! I took him to another psychiastrist who completely detoxed him off all meds and rediagnosed him to his original diagnosis of ADHD. After stopping Abilify the weight just melted off within 3 months. He is now 15 and too skinny but eats enough to feed a small family.
  2. Approximately a week is about right. Even though physically I was not in pain, about the 3rd day afterwards and until the 6th or 7th day, I was very easily tired, dizzy and weak. Remember, after the surgery, you are on a severaly restricted liquid/mushy diet and it's a drastic change from your normal diet. Your body needs time to recover from the anesthesia and the drastic change in diet. 10 days is probably optimum.
  3. JubJub, have you tried to quit? Who knows what you can accomplish when you're sober?
  4. It's funny, I was unplugged for 2 weeks and while I missed the posting, I enjoyed the down time too. Now that I'm back, I can't get on for an hour and I get withdrawal symptoms!
  5. Morality and ethics are subjective.
  6. Is anyone else not receiving e-mail notifications from lapbandtalk? I haven't received any notifications since yesterday afternoon.
  7. Good morning all. Fanny, you look fantabulous!
  8. Is it just me or is Anne losing her attractiveness rather young?
  9. The band, when at the proper fill level, does A LOT as far as the ability to take in solid foods (not so much for liquids). Also, being at the point of taking such a drastic step as surgery does something to one's pysche. Finally, the band is always there and always reminding you to chew slowly and choose wisely. Once people start seeing results I think it motivates them that much more to do even more. Weight loss, exercise and improving the body becomes a new kind of obsession, helping to muffle the food obsession.
  10. Sure. Now you can go back to the 'tinis. On a similar note, since I stopped smoking again, I've not had a drop of alcohol since NYE. I have to be comfortable again with being smoke free before I indulge in things that make me want to be naughty.
  11. I got a big jar of it at Costco in the snack aisle.
  12. Orea, come out, come out, wherever you are! Haven't seen you post in a while.
  13. Kimaly, you sexy thing!

  18. Great going FalloutGirl. I had a friend who lost 60 lbs through Weight Watchers 20 years ago and have kept it off all of these years. She's kept a food journal the entire time and I believe that's been her key to success.
  19. You've just gotta have a good juicy steak once in a while. Shonda, was your New Year's Resolution to kick the Vegan lifestyle to the curb?
  20. Wow! Amazing loss to date! 75 lbs in only 3 months! That's 25 lbs a month! That's averaging what, 5-6 lbs a week? WOW!
  21. Like you, I lost approx. 12 lbs within the first 2 weeks and then nothing until about 3 months out and then averaging only about 3 lbs a month. I'm now almost 6 months out. Yes, wvgal, there is a "sweet spot" but it may take several fills to get there. I feel I'm at my sweet spot now but it took 5 fills to get there (I was very sensitive to fills so only received .5 cc at a time after the initial 3 cc fill). There is no signal to tell you to stop eating, you should stop eating when you no longer feel hungry. At first this is a hard gauge so the best thing is to chew 20 times per small bite and stop after 20 minutes of eating. That should help with portion control. Since you don't really need to chew Soup or other liquids, obviously, you should avoid those if you're seeking satiety (not fullness -- fullness means you've overdone it). I was walking 3-4 miles a day every day for the first 2 months but injured my knee when I started jogging and was told to rest my knee for a couple of weeks and restart walking (no jogging allowed). My knee did recover fully after 2 weeks but my exercise routine seems to have suffered a fatal blow. I really need to get back on the exercise routine and plan on restarting this weekend.
  22. OK, I'm in a mood so this won't sound very nice. Policeman116, if you give up that easily before the surgery, then you probably don't have what it takes to be a success after the surgery. We can support and help you, but we can't lose the weight for you. I admit, I have no patience for people who lie down and cry.
  23. I don't think a show is exploitive if the contestants are there willingly -- especially when it's in their 3rd or 4th season. However, there is no freakin' way you'd ever see my gut on national TV. I still am aghast at what these people are willing to put themselves through. I started crying along with them when they cried during their "check in". Yep! That whiner was sickening. You can tell her she was a spoiled baby brat whose momma probably spoon fed her chocolate while telling her not to worry, she'll lose the weight.
  24. In the week before the surgery, there were times I was convinced I wouldn't wake up from the anesthesia. I wrote down all the accounts and passwords for everything and gave it to DH. Even feeling that way, I was so miserable being fat, I was willing to risk death. I woke up from surgery with hardly any pain and absolutely no issues.
  25. Tina, the best of luck to you! You're gonna be so hot, you won't be able to tear yourself away from the mirror!
