  1. Get some rest. Looking forward to hearing more! I'm 2 weeks away from surgery.
  2. I made some turkey chili yesterday and it was NASTY! Admittedly, I'm a horrible cook, but this stuff was kind of slimy and kind of grainy looking. Someone bought the ground turkey for me and it was 3 pounds (!) of that stuff that is packaged in a tube, so probably not the highest quality. I used that, 2 cans of black beans, 1 large can of diced tomatoes, 2 diced green bell peppers, a packet of low sodium McCormick's chili seasoning, 2 stalks of diced celery, some water, and a bunch of spices (garlic, onion powder, cumin, salt, pepper, etc.) I threw it all in a crockpot and cooked it for about 6 hours. I added a bunch of paprika because it was so light in color. What can I do to make it tastier and not so slimy/grainy? I ended up throwing it out. What a waste!
  3. My surgeon is not requiring me to do a pre-op diet before surgery because of my BMI. I just have to be NPO after midnight. I hadn't planned on having any sort of "last supper" because I just don't want to have that attitude. However, my birthday is the day before surgery so my family wants to take me out to dinner (as always, for birthdays.) Also, we will be in a hotel the night before surgery because I live far away from the hospital, so we will need to eat something. I'll have something light and healthy (like fish without heavy sauce), but here's my concern: I see so many people having trouble with constipation that I'm wondering if I should do an overnight laxative to try to get rid of as much food as possible before surgery. (I've only ever taken a laxative once and it was agonizing...so crampy!) Thoughts, please.
  4. SueBee, can you share with us some of your favorite meals from national chains? Except maybe chili from Wendy's, I can't figure out what to eat when I'm out running errands all day and have to eat on the go.
  5. Hey December Bandsters! Come on in and tell us about yourself. Let's all support each other as we approach our days, which are all coming up VERY quickly. I'm December 6th.
  6. I hear people say they like the chocolate version and get it by the case. Is it premixed or powder? I've only seen powder. Does it taste better one way or the other?
  7. You'll probably be groggy when you read this. You made it! Now focus on healing! The rest will come later.
  8. I'm 5'6 and started considering LB when I weighed just under 200. That was 9 years ago and now I weigh 250.

  10. Vanessa I'm 2 weeks from surgery and getting antsy about what I'll drink. This is very helpful.
  11. Does this only come in children's? What's the dosage?
  12. Mis73, I appreciate your "preaching" the 4-6 weeks thing. I'm 3 weeks from banding and I have decided not to even get on the scale until at least 4 weeks post op, and maybe 6.
  13. Hey, everyone! As you find your way here, please tell us a little bit about yourself...whatever you want. My surgery date is December 6th, the day after my 46th birthday! What a gift! My surgery will be in Little Rock, Arkansas and my surgeon is not requiring me to do a pre-op diet since my BMI is just below 40. However, I have started making strides in the right direction: I joined My Fitness Pal (MFP), started logging my food, I'm walking 45 minutes a day, I have increased my water consumption, and I'm trying to make better (not perfect) food choices. I have also discovered www.ShrinkYourself.com and I have begun the very in-depth work of learning about the emotional reasons that I eat and how to change that. I have purchased Jean McMillan's books, Bandwagon and Bandwagon Cookery and I can't put them down. This week I will be putting together my post-op survival kit. Oh, and I'm getting a new puppy 5 days before surgery! Tell us about you!
  14. Ho, ho, ho, December bandsters! I have started a group just for us. You can find it by clicking on "Community" at the top of the page and then clicking "Social Groups". Hopefully we can chat about things that concern us without boring everyone else on the board.
  15. I can definitely tell a difference! So inspiring!
  16. Love CWC! I'm interested too if the size is right!
  17. Whatever it takes to get you healthy and keep you healthy! I admire your trust in your nutritionist. I weigh myself weekly and there's a note on my scale that says,"this scale measures your weight and body fat. It DOES NOT measure your kindness, your loyalty or your generosity. You are more than the numbers on this scale!"
  18. Sheila I'm December 6th too! Woo hoo!
  19. I've never been a bean eater but I understand they're a great source of protein. Please post if you have a yummy recipe that involves beans. If I had to choose a bean, I do like black beans a little bit.
  20. I'm really sorry this happened to you. Everyone prays that stuff like this doesn't happen to them. But I really appreciate your posting about your experience. The rest of us can try to learn from it.
  21. Yay you! It's good to hear an update as I am one month from surgery.
