    Hi...Newbie

Everything you are feeling is perfectly normal. I don't know anything about the thyroid problems. But hopefully this surgery can help with that in some way. You will know a bit more about things like that when you see the Nurse Praticioner . But it sounds like you have jumped through all the hoops and are going to be having surgery very soon. Wishing you the very very best. You will find so much support and information here, welcome.

    Wendy's Chili Yay or Nay?

I had it twice and thought it was amazing it, I brag to my NUT about it and she says NO BEEF for six months. I am like what? guess i didn't read that part in their manual. But it did taste really good, I pureed it and added cheese and some sour cream. Heaven in a spoon. Guess I will wait a while. So if it is allowed on your list give it a try cause it really is the bomb.

    Post-op Q for Pre-oper

I had revision from band to bypass and an ovary cyst and some sort of mass removed on Dec 5. My sister had knee replacement surgery on Dec 20th. She is some kind of wonder woman because I can say that at no time was my pain close to what she has went through. OH MY GOSH. She needs the other knee done, but says she is going to have to think long and hard before she puts herself through this again. I am hoping that end for her justifies the pain. So most likely if you have went through foot or knee surgery this won't be as bad. And even if it does hurt it shouldn't last nearly as long. She is over a month out and still on some pretty heavy pain meds.

    Wls experts

I was just thinking about some of this the past couple of days. Don't you wish there was a study somewhere that said if you take "these" vitamins you blood work will "be" or if you do liquids for so many weeks your long term success will "be" or this doctor's rules have such and such success. It just seems that there is no way any of us could be WLS experts when the experts don't even agree on what is what. Confuses the heck out of me some days. I just try every day to do the best I can, and I am sure I am getting some things wrong and some things right. But heck if I am sure what. The vitamins really confuse me. Why would one doc say take two flintstone completes that you can pick up at any store, and another say it has to be a bariatric kind that you have to take three or four times a day plus other supplements that you order online and costs a fortune. Can't they agree on something and keep it simple for us and yet keep us healthy? that is all I want to be is healthy. I know that we are all going to lose at different rates, have different pain levels or tolerances and some of us will have complications. I am just talking the basics here. I wish there were basics that they all agreed on, and then of course it would be somewhat different with patients as they tolerate things ect. Just boggles my mind some times. I appreciate every single one of you and your experiences and your advice and you encouragement. I hope I have never ever came across as an "expert" I just try to give encouragement where I can and answer a question that maybe i know the answer to. Hugs to you all, and thank you for traveling with me

    Blunt... I STINK!

It is all the stores of fat leaving your body as you lose the weigh, sorta like a detox. . Also the anesthesia working its way out. I couldn't stand my own self for a couple of weeks. But it is better now. I think my bathroom duties must be bad, cause the other day i heard a hand reach around and turn on the exhaust fan. Thank goodness my nose was stopped up, but I guess I offended the rest of the house.

    no more lurking!

Hi Natasha, I am your below neighbor in Indy. Welcome and glad you started posting. This place is so great for support and info. I am not sure where flint is without looking on a map, but my daughter in laws parents own a cottage and spend a lot of the summer in the the New Era, muskegon area. I think that is pretty far from you. But welcome and this forum makes us close as next door neighbors.

    Random- itchy bumps after rny?

I have needed benedryl almost daily just due to dry itchy skin everywhere. Bout sends you over the edge. I had some of this bad itchiness attacks before surgey too. I would beg my husband to look and see if I had a rash or welts he would say no just where you have been scratching. DUH do you think I would be scratching if there wasn't something there, I remember in the hospital had an awful fit of the itches and they had to give me benedryl IV. must be pain meds, and combo of other stuff. Anyway it itches and drives me crazy.

    Chia seeds

I would really like to add these to like yogurt ect has anyone ask their NUT about them, are they ok for us to have post op. I guess I worry about things clogging up or messing with the bowel area. I know my doc says miralax is ok but I think I have read some docs say no, so just wondering.

    has anyone...

Welcome glad you found us. I hope we can be support to you as well as you to us, You have so much experience and we really appreciate you sharing your journey. Getting back to basics is probably the best thing you can do which you are doing, The no drinking with meals, will make a big difference, I am not far enough out from RNY to give much advice. But i did have the lap band prior to surgery for seven years. And although I never lost a lot of weight with the band, many of those band rules I carried with me the whole seven years. NO soda, no drinking with meals. Those are two things that I didn't have to change for RNY because they were already a part of my habit. Wishing you the very best.

    Elective to Mandatory.

Wishing you the best. You have been through the mill. A long way to get here, but so glad someone took the initiative to really get it done. It gets so tiring jumping through so many hoops. And you know what, it is mandatory in your case, and should be treated as an emergency. I am so glad your surgeon realized this and got you in touch with the right doc. There are good things waiting for you. It won't be easy, but I think you already know that nothing is easy. But it will be worth it. Prayers for you and a gentle hug. So glad you are sharing your journey with us.
